Oh no, and I came in to post about a mostly successful weekend of actually listening to records. I'd like to to start by thanking who ever it was that brought up Edith Nylon months ago when I had my post punk and new wave mix-up, poo poo's gooood. Which made it all the more crushing when I listened to Fuel afterwards, did not like them at all to the point I'm considering selling the record. Anyone like 1990s hardcore punk yelling and raging against corporations and society?

And as a bonus I now understand why Boney M is mostly remembered for Rasputin, the rest of the album was good, if slightly forgettable sleepy disco.

Slowly the picture gets clearer as to why they're not better known. I know yelling is the point, but I just couldn't stand the lead singer. Realistically I'll just put it in the stack to go to the local shop which in itself is getting rather big. Gotta make room for a bunch of poo poo that I've got on order anyways.

Goddamn, I've been having a horrible time lately with the quality of records I'm receiving. Horrible warps, surface noise, just overall lovely pressings. It's like COVID completely wrecked any sense of quality control from the pressing plants.

To top it off I've had trouble getting my new cartridge balanced right and then the other day I accidentally dropped my brand new copy of Saba's Care for Me as I was lifting it from the turntable and it got caught under the needle, creating a huge scratch.

I... I think I loving hate collecting vinyl you guys.

Why do you think I keep telling people not to buy records?

I actually have that EP (translucent yellow vinyl, thank you irony)

bought it at a flea market on a trip to LA in the mid-00s not knowing anything about the band because why the poo poo not

in other news, I was on discogs today, looking at the other stuff a seller had beyond just the one thing I'd found that they had that I'd gone there looking for in the first place

middle clicked three records to open them in new tabs

they all 404ed, someone presumably bought all three

not thinking, I refreshed the seller's page so all the entries vanished from that page

and now I have no idea what three records I was looking at

and one of them was definitely a "finally, one of these at a decent price" pick, I remember that much. but not what it was.

welp.

Picked these up over the weekend from a record store in the basement of an old courthouse. $20 for the Priest, $25 for the Sabbath (talked down from $35 because drat, look at the beating the cover has taken). Both sound good and the Sabbath appears to be a first edition.

Holy cow! If you asked me what the two very most influential metal albums were you would be real close right there. That Priest Unleashed was a serious favorite for many years.

Command makes small floating shelves. Might be workable?

I don't have a "music center" set up yet, but I saw this on Reddit and was thinking of copying the layout a bit. It's a little "modern" for me (I prefer more of a rustic vibe), but haven't really found much inspiration in that style.

No, Al DiMeola shreds, you could just stick him on the other side of an empty mirror frame with Walter Becker and watch them not look each other in the eye for a while.

Only emojis can express my pure, simple stupidity.

^ not sure on that speaker placement. I'm no audiophile, but might want a bit more space to breathe. From what I understand, they should never be in any sort of enclosure

I found a local dude that refurbishes old stereo cabinets:

I cannot help but wince a bit when folks cram their setup into a small little cabinet. Stereo speakers only 2' apart, turntable sitting right next to the speakers, etc. So much technology and foresight goes into getting rid of needle feedback. I got a humming feedback when my stereo receiver was anywhere near my turntable. I ran a 25' RCA > Aux cable to my turntable off to the right, that way I can isolate any feedback, and possible electrical noise. Works a treat.

I got some record roots modular vinyl wall hanging things. It's a bit misleading, as it looks very sturdy, but is just canvas. I'll hang mine up soon and post pics. Super overpriced, but, no drilling. You also cannot hang it horizontal by design.

(not my pic)

as far as vinyl wall displays, tons of creative options on amazon and etsy. Could just use small nails, too.

Here's a few options I have saved in my wishlist:

That would be fine for a small room, but small speakers are always going to be limited. It would be better with a sub. Might get some weird reflections off the cubes, too. It’s meant to be seen not listened too.

And it looks pretty but once you have more than 50 records it’s either going to look a lot less staged or you gotta figure something else out.

And I think there should be a big volume knob somewhere up there. Having to bend down to turn a tiny knob on a speaker or use a remote just isn’t the same. Amps rule powered speakers drool.

My setup hasn’t come together yet but it irks me when people get something sleek or minimalist then refuse to route the cables whatsoever. You could make that so much cleaner for less than a dollar’s worth of zip ties and 3M mounts.
