I suspect that the structure of the movie will be shifting back and forth from the ancient past and the present when they have amnesia. Kind of Hitchcokian in that the audience knows the future shlubs are actually demigods and the driving mystery being what diminished them and the anticipation for when they get their powers and memories back.

Is there anything substantial at all to suggest that they have amnesia other than rumors someone heard somewhere? The trailer makes no indication of that at all.

The idea seems to go against everything we're being told and shown though. The scene of the Eternals as a group sitting down to a shared meal obviously doesn't take place at a moment of high stakes or anything far into the film and is presumably closer to the beginning for instance, and they all seem like they're aware of not just each other but each other's powers and capabilities to say that Ikaris is joking about leading the Eternals. Several of the character bios also make no sense if they are talking about people who have amnesia. Kingo being a Bollywood star because he's become obsessed with fame doesn't really make sense if he's just someone who fell into that life because that's all he knows, and really only makes sense for that character if he's aware of himself and choosing that lifestyle. Sersi being described as someone "posing" as a museum curator is worded such that she seems completely aware of herself too, and only living that life by choice rather than because she knows no other. You also have Druig described as having become estranged from the Eternals because of a difference in ideals. A description that doesn't make sense if they all have amnesia, since he wouldn't know the other Eternals to be consciously estranged from them.

Hopefully she does a better job of it than Diana, and doesn't allow artifacts to be stolen, help her boyfriend steal from museums and get her hands on ancient artifacts she just keeps in a corner under some blankets. But yes, a bio that surfaced a while ago heavily implies she's posing (or at least, has posed) as a museum curator. A lot of the stuff there matches the stuff on that Twitter thread that was posted here just after the trailer dropped; some of them are basically identical (bar better English).

Sersi's bio in particular reads: "Sersi is the Eternal with an affinity for humanity. Sersi is as happy working as a museum curator as she is saving humans from the threat of the Deviants. Sersi has the ability to manipulate matter, changing the makeup of any non-sentient material she touches. She's also been in love with Ikaris for centuries, and helps him to recruit the Eternals for one last mission."

A lot of them talk about battling Deviants, who are apparently the Eternal's classic enemy and so the film probably has them as at least nominal enemies even if some internal conflict or whatever ends up as being more important to the characters overall. As is, I don't think we've gotten any information on Deviants at all. Not even people playing them. Apparently three actors are noted as having been cast in undisclosed roles, so they may be playing Deviants but the lack of material building them up as a threat at least suggests some internal strife will be of greater consequence in the movie.

Marvel has called it a teaser trailer, so there'll presumably be at least one more "actual" trailer, that I expect would have more plot relevant details and hints at the overall conflict in it.

They made it work for Purple Man. Mind you, he was a villain. A particularly vile villain. Really though, any telepath is basically capable of the same thing at the end of the day. Not that I'd miss Eros, since I don't recall any stories where he was a standout character (though it's also not like I've read much that includes him), but the ethical ramifications are there with other characters who are accepted despite (or because in Purple Man's case) of it. If Eros was gonna show up anywhere I'd imagine it'd be She Hulk, so that the ramifications can be explored. I think that even happened in one of the comics, actually.

I think it's fine as a teaser to introduce the core characters, which is basically all it's doing. I find it more puzzling no-one has been announced as playing a Deviant only a few months out from release honestly.

Quite a ways upthread while WandaVision was airing, some people likened Wanda to the kid from that Twilight Zone episode who sent people to the cornfield. I think Kilgrave/Purple Man is a better example, though. Wanda, for all her denial of increasingly obvious truths, was still an adult. She could still care about people as people.

Kilgrave's powers apparently manifested when he was eight years old. Given their nature, he never had to really develop empathy emotional maturity or morality beyond that level. People were objects to Kilgrave. Objects that provided food, shelter, sex (or other "entertainment") but they weren't people. And as objects they were utterly disposable. One thing that was interesting and terrifying about Kilgrave is how traditional villain motives were irrelevant to him. Getting money? Gaining power? In the end his "villain plot" was to reclaim Jessica - like an angry, selfish little boy who wanted his "toy" to work properly.

Not really, it's pretty standard Hollywood/Marvel practice.
First you make a teaser that just shows a few random clip, then after that you get the teaser trailer that gives a vague outline of who the characters are but doesn't reveal what the movie will be about, and then finally you get the proper trailer. (Then you have several more trailers after that, but they aren't as important)

The movie is coming out in november, it's much too early for us to get the main trailer, and it would be bad business for interest in the movie to peak now.
