Take Cody out of it - I don't know how anyone would expect the patriotic American to lose to the British boxer on Memorial Day weekend with their largest live crowd in a year.

I think it being pointed out that Ogogo's only had 2 matches is what brought me over to understanding Cody's victory. Ogogo's still near-completely green, and he has a ways to go. He also totally had Cody dead to rights, and if he just dragged him out from the rope after that crazy uppercut we would've had a clean victory for sure.

I completely get why they wanted to have a big babyface win in the America feud match held on memorial day weekend on one of their first big shows with full crowds, but it would also have owned to have Ogogo get the entire crowd booing as Cody spat up blood in the middle of the ring.

Let the show have some time to sit in and while I don't think it's a top all time level PPV for me or the best AEW show I do think it was the most consistent AEW show and a fun watch for the whole run time. Big part of what made it so consistent was they had the young talent go over in big matches!

The only down sides I had with the PPV was the Cody finish (and even than the match was still good), the Casino Battle Royale pacing (Going to Card suite than theme music just killed the countdown IMO) and Kenny using more Bullet Club BS finishes than he did in New Japan.

I think at this point half of us is most of us really getting sick of that sort of nationalistic booking and badly wanting it to be deconstructed. Hopefully this will just be a one-shot throwback thing.

it would have been fitting, on memorial day, to have to make a memorial for Cody, as he lay broken in the ring, like the death of superman

so what are you on about with all this they pushed her in a really weird way stuff

I'm on exactly what I'm loving saying. Coming out of the Lights Out match, they basically erased Thunder Rosa from the canon and pushed and presented Britt in a way that got Shida less over and made her beating Shida basically a foregone conclusion. And I find that really weird, because Britt's a heel and Shida's a babyface. I keep saying "weird" because I don't even necessarily think it's bad booking, I don't think it's bad to strongly book the person you want to make your champion and focus the division around her, I just think it's weird, given the alignments of the respective characters and the way it negatively affected the current champion. It's not some kind of dog whistle. I just think it's weird.

Like, okay. Look at it this way.

Championship match.
There's a babyface and a heel.
The heel's manager interferes.
The babyface gets nailed with a foreign object.
This is not the finish. The match continues.
The heel eventually wins, clean, with a wrestling move.

Kenny Omega and Don Callis are the biggest pieces of garbage in the world.
Britt Baker gets roses thrown at her feet.

I dont think anyone is accusing the women's division booking of being racist. Nor do I think anyone is denying Britt had been built for this to be the natural changing point. This story has been coming for a long time now.

It's just really lovely that we had this dog and pony show on Friday night of "here now you can address your live crowd, here's a bigger belt, enjoy the next 48 hours as best you can." And then the PPV skips over the aftermath of the match, and thankfully the crowd did the thank you chant otherwise there was no acknowledgement of the former champ as the camera truck decided it was time to look at the goddamn commentary table for some reason???

It's not conspiracy. There's so secret women's division illuminati. But they've had growing pains in this company and this feels like more of em. Just wish it had been handled better. Maybe part of it is just due to the playoffs pushing Dynamite out of position, who can say?

to be clear i thought the posters were insinuating aew's booking was racist for leaving shida and rosa behind in favor of britt because that was genuinely the only thing i could come up with, before those posters later explained more about what they meant. i still don't understand it, but i'm glad that specific thing is off the table currently

Thunder Rosa still consistently has awesome matches and Britt was doing a long-term Dark/Elevation thing to get into the rankings, while Shida's had several title defenses and plenty of people were saying they wanted Shida to win or predicted a double-turn. Just because you say Thunder Rosa was "erased" a bunch of times doesn't make it more true. Nobody erased anybody. You just see something different, and that's fine, but you're copping an attitude about people disagreeing.

Cody doesn't just want to be the ace, he wants everyone to love him. So when everyone doesn't, he's like "lol see, that difference of opinion is what makes AMERICA GREAT therefore since I AM AMERICA, I AM GREAT."

AEW has totally undercut Shida and Rosa in favor of Britt. It was also bad that they didn't stick with Shida after losing and acknowledge the thank you chants.

The Cody match is dumb because you lose nothing by having Ogogo beat Cody here. Make QT and his goons a legitimate threat and THEN overcome them.

It's fine either way, because I wasn't super invested in this match and it still overdelivered. Cody just wanted to Cody and gaddang it we just have to deal.
