The Rose of Remembrance (which Triss tries to roofie you with in 2) doesn't wilt if given to someone by their true love. In 3 you find it dried and desiccated. Triss is a creep and should be shunned.

Tbh romance aspect of these games is pretty baffling to me, cause there's a very strong division between player's possible choices and Geralt as a character. So even if (theoretically) I try to keep as far away from Triss as possible in Witcher 1, Geralt is with her in Witcher 2 and if I do the same thing in Witcher 2, it's not really acknowledged in Wild Hunt (as far as I know, but I obviously might be wrong about that, though Yennefer's already made a remark how she didn't contact Geralt because he had such a great time with Triss). Similarly, I'm sometimes tempted to do a no-sex run just to see to what extent it's even possible but I suspect it'd also never get acknowledged because cannonically Geralt fucks a lot. But in that case why even giving the player a choice?

The 2 romance plots in W3 are either triss and geralt or yen and geralt resolving those types of differences. I both are good stories as far as video game romances go, the yen/geralt one will likely be more satisfying for anyone with prior knowledge of the books. I did triss my first run, and subsequently have done yen every time.

Keira is the most rational choice, but it's not a choice. Lambert has more sense than Geralt.

Funny how from the same premise, I ended up going Triss every time, since the type of high strung (constantly arguing in a) relationship is exhausting.. and I'd argue that Triss' morals are bit more palatable, at least she didn't torture dead stable boys. Haven't played W1 or 2 though.

Shani is the best choice but she's way too good for Geralt, sadly. Yen and Geralt at least have an understanding and have a real history from the books. Actually this is my theory, the majority of Team Yen read the books, while the majority of Team Triss didn't.

I've read the books and I'm on Team Yen in-game, but out of game Yen from the books is the type of woman I try to keep a few time zones away from me.

The real relationship that Geralt needs is the one Nilfgaardian diplomat twin that he helps with combat practice who then dips out of the game abruptly.

If you prefer Yen you're into toxic relationships. If you prefer Triss you're a perfect candidate for a hardcore mid-life crisis. If you prefer Keyra you're settling for somebody you don't even like that much. If you prefer Shani then too bad, she doesn't want you. If you don't prefer any of them then congratz you'll die alone. Choose your poison. This is the most realistic relatioship simulator.

Yen and Geralt are always the right choice. They’re both hosed up and immature and deserve each other. Triss is just a grownup version of Elmira from Tiny Toons. They do have some good qualities. They’d be terribly uninteresting if they didn’t, but yea.

While I am not unspoiled like macabresca this is the first time since the game came out I have the hardware to play it. While romance chat blooms forever, like the apple trees on Avallach's isle, there is an important question I have to ask: If you choose a facial hair style other than clean shaven or full beard does the hair still grow in? I was experimenting with the facial hair styles and I noticed that the moustaches were pretty thin if your beard is just starting to grow when you get it cut. Will it become a more substantial moustache over time? Servetus fucked around with this message at 18:18 on Jun 2, 2021 |

Over 10 hours in and I've only just now realised you can read the descriptions of sign posts for a bit of backstory about the place. So neat! I also haven't noticed that blown up monters' nests can be looted and had a momentary panic attack before I remembered that the loot is not that important anyway. I've reached a point when if I'm not playing it at the moment I think about how much I want to. This game's good y'all!

Yeah, the most valuable stuff you get from monster nests is like, high level crafting components. You'll eventually be swimming in them anyway.

This is a pretty silly question but when playing as Ciri for the first time (is that a spoiler?*) I accidentally skipped a tutotial pop-up and couldn't find it in glossary. It actually happened to me before, that I needed to check the most recent pop-up but it wasn't there, do they get added to the glossary later, or what? Anyway, I knew that Ciri has some fancy powers and I checked online that she can use some blink thing. I don't know what else this pop-up could be about but maybe you have an idea. Or maybe you know when will the tutotial glossary update so I can make sure? *for future reference, what's the spoiler policy in this thread? It is a relatively old game and I'm not sure what's common knowledge and what's a spoiler

Or maybe you know when will the tutotial glossary update so I can make sure? On spoilers we generally like to keep the plot points and twists as a surprise for new players who wander in. The major strength of the game is the story and we love to see people’s reactions to discovering it in this thread. Yours is a pretty minor spoiler, so don’t worry about it, I would think most people are aware she’s a major character so it’s not really spoiling anything to learn you play as her at some point. If in doubt just put it in spoiler quotes. As to your powers question, she gains them throughout the game and at the start she can do very little. I can’t remember off the top of my head the sequence of what she learns when. Maybe someone else can fill you in or you could check the wiki, but it will probably contain spoilers because she gets new fun stuff after major plot stuff. e: I remember that if you use the button that would normally pull up Geralts power wheel when playing as Ciri it brings up her power wheel which should show you what powers she currently has. e2: now that I think on it she does start with ‘blink’ and it’s the short dodge button iirc. If you're on PC I'm pretty sure it's holding and then letting go of Q to kick the poo poo out of everyone in a charging radius. Don't know the button on consoles. Watch out while doing it though, ciri's original model just goes invisible and can still be hit despite her jumping through time and space.

There's nothing on power wheel yet, there's only that blue bar that fills up during combat, kinda like Geralt's adrenaline, but the game'll probably tell me what to do about that next time

I didn't read the books but I was team Yen because I thought the game's writing sold it really well. In conversations with her Geralt gets all tongue tied and dorky, it's such a contrast to how he is in every other situation. Yen tries to act like she doesn't care but is a secret softy too. You can tell they care about each other a lot even though we haven't seen how that came to be. It's much more subtly written than most game romances and I found it really endearing.

Another thing I really like about the witcher is that while mostly being pretty serious it has some absolutely ridiculous quests once in a while, and not side-quests even. Like escorting a goat that sets you up to fight a bear. Or this one quest in witcher 2 when Geralt gets high and hallucinates giant chicken and phallic mushrooms, which is documented in the journal as Dandelion's freudian analysis of Geralt. Although there's a bit of a tonal whiplash between chasing goats and domestic abuse in the span of one quest

Although there's a bit of a tonal whiplash between chasing goats and domestic abuse in the span of one quest I always took the goat escort as a tongue-in-cheek nod to escort quests in other RPGs. And yeah the game has some really great moments of levity to break up the serious/grim tone. The Blood and Wine DLC in particular is full of goofiness.

I kind of took it for granted after spending 100+ hours in the main quest. When I started Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I hit a number of Wacky Sidequests where it was clear they were trying to do a similar thing, but the writing wasn't quite there, to the point where it made me just miss the Witcher so I played both DLC.
