The F-15C from DC Designs is OK, if you install the community mod (which the plane creator integrates frequently).

There's an F-22, that'll get a visual update soon. That plane is nice, because it actually has FBW, which none of the others do (so far).

I'm trialing OnAir, and I'm looking at the easier of the two survival modes (I think it lists it as medium difficulty.) I start with 10k, which is enough to rent an aircraft, but it says you have to return the aircraft to the current airport with the same amount of fuel. Does that mean if I'm flying the already "Pending" mission to get 1000xp and the big payout I have to fly my rented aircraft back to the one I rented it from?

IIRC the rentals are entirely separate from whatever runs you make, so do as many missions as you want before returning it.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but if I only want to do one or two cargo runs in a day, at the end of the day I'd have to return it to where I rented it from or keep renting it at 200cr an hour for all the time I'm doing nothing with it but haven't returned it. So I'd keep renting it for multiple days, then be fighting to earn enough to cover the rent in my few hours flying.

I'm on the trial, and the easy setting seems a bit too easy, while the medium survival mode is a little too challenging, but the one between those two modes (the second of the four) is locked out for people with trials.

The rental fee is per flight hour, iirc, not per hour it's rented out overall.

Is OnAir significantly better than NeoFly? NeoFly's adequate for what I really want out of a career mod, i.e. get me to fly routes I probably never would otherwise, but I can't say it's got me actually hooked on the progression a la Truck Simulator.

I'm using NeoFly again now. I tried it last year and got into it again recently.

In theory the proper online career mods like FSE and OnAir would be cooler because you can have your own Goon airline etc, but the online mods are also full of people who will do anything to kill all the fun from them. The most vocal people in those communities are the ones who demand a grueling unentertaining grind.

NeoFly has the online system now but I have no idea if it's good and you need to host your own server. A goon server might be fun if someone could set one up.

I don't think it's a setting up a goon server kind of situation. NeoFly multiplayer is more, "hey, want to help me with this mission? I'll host the game and you can join for the duration of the flight."

It sounds fun for some of the mission types, but it's not a persistent online thing.

OnAir’s development specifically has been a loving roller coaster of failure because of those chucklefucks. Also paired with meandering design/balance goals and a wishywashy dev team.

Several years ago when I was most active in simming I often thought about how to do a fun career system. And I still think about it sometimes. A couple of my main principles:

- Have large community goals i.e. "there's a weirdo convention happening in las vegas, everyone fly weirdos from around the globe there"

- Focus on fun. The most important goal for a career mod is to give purpose to your flights.

- Minimize grind. These mods often try to make you proceed from GA to tubeliners, but in my mind they are totally different groups. I love GA and prop planes. I still haven't even loaded up a jet plane in MSFS after a year. So you should be able to focus on what you like and progress within that area.

- Absolutely no public top lists. This is what makes people go mad if you feel like some mechanism is exploitable and someone else took your top spot. Only private groups except in regrads to those global community goals where everyone would have to haul lots of stuff. But even then the goal is shared and not competition.

Civilian flight sim is a casual relaxation tool like truck sim so you don't need to make it blood-thirsty competition.

I just tried Live Weather in FS20 last night. Why was it so far outside what's actually happening in reality? My local airport was showing 7kts northerly, and the flight sim was showing 17kts south-easterly, which is a fair old difference, and makes planning flights quite a bit more difficult.

The in-game weather completely disagreeing with reality has been an ongoing thing since MSFS launched, but it has been steadily improving with various patches.

Probably the least painful fix would be if 3rd party developers had access to the weather engine to update their P3D programs to work on the new sim, but for whatever reason (I assume part of their contract with the wx provider), Asobo refuses to allow that to happen.

This is really quality thought about what one these “progression” sims should look like. GA and Tube are two distinctly different games for me: I like to fly tubes when I have something that can be done during cruise- laundry, cleaning up a little, etc., and I like flying GA when I want an actual, more hands on experience of flying. Almost all of the current offerings kind of assume that GA is a punishment for not flying tubes and it’s weird, but it does track with my experience of folks who play commercial sims. Their loss.

I like PacX without using a career for my tube flights. It adds the passenger and flight crew audio and a little extra evaluation to how you complete the flight. For GA I may try Skypark, but usually I have my own motivations for those flights so it doesn’t need anything extra beyond my own judgement of how I performed.

I wonder why no one has ever made a career mode for tubeliners were you would just be employed by an AI company. Starting off you would fly short local routes and gain experience, then graduate on to longer routes and bigger liners etc. Or is there already something like this?

I was wondering if I was going to have buyer's remorse for dropping the $25 on the MB 339 but hoo boy I could blast around in that thing all day. It was fun enough just flying nap of the earth at 300 knots but when I realized I could intercept other players that's when I really started having fun. I don't think bombing out from 20 thousand feet across a Cessna's windshield and barrel rolling away like a gremlin will ever get old.

Really? Which World Update was the first one they've done a beta test beforehand? They required you to have the store version when you signed up, because you had to go through the Insider Hub (at least for sign up). So they sent a Steam key anyway?

Maybe they changed it but I’ve only recently been invited to the betas (since WU 4) because I’m partner through Working Title. We had several other people on the team who only had the ms store version and they required them to use Steam to test betas. We just get private keys that we plug into Steam and it unlocks the test versions.

I’m not one of the core developers of that team so I know nothing about source access or anything else. They just pm me a key and I use it. I don’t even have developer forum access, I just do everything through our discord.

I'm not totally certain but I think it's only for one beta at a time. You select it from the game properties, but you don't automatically opt-in to the next one. At least that's how I remember it from other games.

I spent my weekend disassembling my Bravo Throttle Quadrant to fix the first throttle axis (the speed brake/one closest to the trim wheel) after it broke.

I'll post my write up later but I'll just say I have some serious concerns about longevity when it comes to this thing.

Hope mine doesn’t end up having the same issue. The first issue I’ve had cropped up where the reverser detente on position 4/6 has kind of drifted, so I have to sort of jockey it rightward to get it to go down. I’ve been mostly careful with it but I did drop it once from my lap when attaching the clamp thing to my desk.

Can anyone comment on how the Logitech X56 feels compared to the Thrustmaster t16000m?

I liked using 16000m a lot in squadrons and elite dangerous, but don't like how most of it's buttons feel kind of mushy compared to the clicky trigger and direction switches.
The X56 has a thumb switch that looks fun and I'm wondering if it works as well as the 16000m in other ways that matter like smoothness of motion.

I'm willing to pay the extra $100 or so once it's in stock again at retail prices.

I wouldn't buy the x56

Even assuming that they fixed all the issues from when it was still the rhino, imo it's n unwieldy unergonomic Stick. And if they didn't fix all the rhino issues, it'll stick at the center. I'd really advocate for the Thrustmaster. Mich more ergonomic, very precise z smaller footprint, and so forth.

I have both the X52 and the TCA Officers Pack. The TCA stick feels so much stiffer and better than the X52 does and that's the one I use for FS2020 but the lack of buttons on the stick itself (the X52 stick has the dual crosspads that really make menu selection in VR so much easier) makes it more difficult to play Elite with. The play on the X52 feels so loose in comparison and I'm wondering if the X52 Pro would be any better in that regard?

I just got an NXT and I like it a lot. It's stiffer than the T16000M I was using, but I like that - I spent my formative years using a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 which is pretty stiff when the FFB motors are in use. Plus the stiffness is supposed to ease up a bit once it's been used a while.
