Weirdly enough I read a short story the other day that had a side plot point of people using a variant of that as a neural implant, just to make their lives more interesting.

The city, hidden hundreds of feet beneath the mountain range, is a palace of marble and gold. It is also empty. The soldiers claim it for the Third Reich, but they are not there long before they are discovered by a battalion of Waffen-SS. The two battalions clash in the halls of the palatial city and in the ensuing battle, the two sides unleash powerful supernatural forces. The Third Reich falls in the mountains. The year is 1938. Indiana Jones returns to the site of his most famous adventure, Peru, with a team of archaeologists. There, he discovers the Temple of the Sun, a temple dedicated to Inti, the Inca god of the sun. Dr. Arthuhn, an expert on the Incas and the leading authority on the team, guides him through the temple. There, the team finds a strange, ornate urn. Jones takes the urn and places it in his pack. The entire temple begins to quake, and the team flees for their lives. They return to find the site swarming with Nazis. Dr. Arthuhn's moment of shock is all the Nazis need to open fire on the archaeologists, killing many and forcing the rest to flee in panic. The surviving members of the team flee through the jungle, pursued by the Nazis. The urn that Jones found in the Temple of the Sun is a vessel for Inti, the god of the sun. In it, he is trapped in a deep, deathlike sleep. If the urn is broken, however, he will be released to plague the world. This is exactly what the Nazis intend to do. The head of the team, ruthless German archeologist Herr Eichel, plans to release Inti and use him to conquer the world. The Incas' own prophecies foretold of the arrival of men like the Nazis to wake the god. They also foretold that the god would bring fire to the world, and the Incas planned to use their empire to keep the world safe from such destruction.

Supernatural Elements: A malevolent god
Love interest(s): Female acquaintance
Mentors: Chico, an Inca peasant who aided Dr. Jones on his earlier adventure
Villain(s): The god Yaguar, the Nazis
Sidekick(s): Chico, an Inca peasant
The year is 1944. The Nazis have overrun Europe, and now they dominate South America. The nations of the Western world are pinned down in a bloody battle across the steppes of Russia, and the East seems lost. In this world, Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones has been commissioned by the United States to seek out the last remains of the Inca civilization. If they could find some way to remove the Andean barrier, they could flank the Nazis and turn the tide of the war in the Allies' favor. Dr. Jones and his guides are captured by a band of llapachu, the fearsome Andean mountain men. They march him to their hidden village high in the mountains. There, he meets their leader, Chico. Chico is an Inca, the original native of the Andes and the descendant of the empire that the Conquistadors tried to destroy. The llapachu are fighting the Nazis as well, so they release Dr. Jones and agree to help him. Together, they travel up into the mountains, searching for a way across the Andes.

Indiana Jones and the Tomb of Terror
Exotic Location(s): The Gobi Desert
Supernatural Elements: None
Love interest(s): Dr. Jeanette Alexa Mason, a female OSS operative
Villain(s): Mongolian bandits
Sidekick(s): None
The year is 1945. The final days of World War Two are underway. Dr. Jones has come to the Gobi Desert to search for the lost tomb of Genghis Khan. While the legendary Mongol ruler is long dead, his name still strikes fear into the hearts of men. Dr. Jones' OSS contact has given him a lead to follow, and so he seeks an audience with the Great Khan. The Great Khan is the leader of one of the many bands of Mongols in the Gobi. If anyone knows where the tomb is, he would. Dr. Jones finds the Great Khan's court and presents himself as a humble academic. Fortunately for him, he catches the Khan in a good mood and is granted an audience. Unfortunately, the Khan has never heard of Genghis having a tomb. When he mentions this during his audience, the entire court erupts into laughter at the very suggestion. Dr. Jones tries to keep his calm, but he is quickly seized by the Khan's men. The Khan has heard of Dr. Jones and his reputation as a lover of pretty women. The Khan also has a beautiful wife. He sentences Dr. Jones to an eternity of being crushed in a giant stone vice for the amusement of his wife. Dr. Jones never gives up and manages to escape using his wiles, and his fists.

Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy
Exotic Location(s): Scotland
Supernatural Elements: Magic, though not of the demonic kind.
Love interest(s): None
Villain(s): A power-hungry wizard
Sidekick(s): None
The year is 1947. World War Two has been over for two years, but the world has changed. In Germany, the Nazis have been defeated and now America must step in to keep the peace. In this world, magic is real, and in Scotland, an old man waits for Dr. Jones. The old man has read the stars and foreseen a grave moment coming for mankind. He believes that only Dr. Jones can save humanity from destroying itself. He tells Dr. Jones that the world is balanced on a scale: on one end there is good, and on the other there is evil. As the good in the world decreases, evil creeps in to take its place. There is an ancient society dedicated to keeping this balance: the Keepers. Dr. Jones must journey all across the globe to various hotspots of potential world-ending evil and stop it. In Madrid, he must prevent a rising tide of Fascism. In Russia, he must stop the spread of Communism. In Egypt, he must stop the Nazi Occultists from completing an ancient ritual that will bring about a thousand year reign of the dead. In England, he must save a unicorn from extinction so it won't be the last of its kind. Can Dr. Jones keep the balance between good and evil in the world?

Indiana Jones and the Cataclysm

Villain(s): Dr. Jones' old college professor, the man largely responsible for his becoming an archaeologist.
Sidekick(s): None
The year is 1957. Dr. Jones is in his early fifties, and he's getting too old for this. He's retired from teaching at this point in time, but an old friend reaches out to him for help. A lifelong friend of Dr. Jones, this man has always been a patriot to his country, but has become increasingly disturbed by the things he's seen the government involved in. He's convinced the U.S. government is being run by aliens, and is conspiring with them to take over the world. He begs Dr. Jones to investigate this matter. Will Dr. Jones be willing to help his friend, or has he abandoned his adventurous past?

Indiana Jones and the Chimera
Exotic Location(s): London
Supernatural Elements: The main villain is immortal.
Love interest(s): Dr. Jones has a wife and two children, both girls.
Villain(s): Henry Northup, an Englishman who discovered the elixir of life in the 1700s.
Sidekick(s): None, though the hero has a wife and children.
The year is 1964, and men have walked on the moon for the first time just a few years ago. Dr. George Lucas is hard at work on his new science fiction movie, and the world is entering a new era of technology. Unfortunately, this is balanced out by the increasingly grim realities of the Cold War. In England, a man is found dead with strangely altered DNA. In Arizona, strange floppy disks are found by a prospecting couple. In California, mysterious lights descend from the sky. But there's one discovery that will change the world more than any other: in the English town of Selly Oak, a strange portal to another world is found. In that moment, the Cold War tensions change. The American and Soviet governments, already paranoid enough to build hundreds of thousands of nuclear weapons pointed at each other, are faced with a new fear. Have aliens discovered Earth? Are these otherworldly visitors coming in peace, or are they enemies? Dr. Jones is called upon to enter this new world.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Komodo
Exotic Location(s): The Lost Island of Padang, where a tribe of man-sized monitor lizards rule.

Love interest(s): The hero meets a woman who is part of the Komodo tribe.
Villain(s): A witch doctor from a nearby island.
Sidekick(s): None.
The year is 1937. The country is in the midst of the Great Depression, and the problems in Europe loom large for everyone. Dr. Jones travels to Indonesia in search of a Komodo dragon scale. He has heard stories of magical medical powers, and he wants to test it out for himself. Upon arrival, he finds a wild island. The people here live a simplistic life, but there are signs of an outside influence. The Japanese have begun to settle on the nearby islands, and there is fear that they may soon stumble upon Padang. Tensions are high when the hero arrives. The islanders want to banish all foreigners, including him, but a few voices plead to give Dr. Jones a fair chance. They argue that he may be able to help them against the Japanese. The hero meets a beautiful woman named Aika, who helps him find a Komodo dragon and harvest its scale. He finds himself oddly attracted to her, but he knows that it isn't the right time for romance. The island's chief, Owa, has grown ill lately. Dr. Jones uses the scale to cure him, and Owa is so grateful that he allows him to stay.

Indiana Jones and the Far Afrika
Exotic Location(s): A dense jungle in the heart of Africa.
Supernatural Elements: The Lost Tribes of Israel live here.
Love interest(s): None.
Villain(s): The chief of a nearby village wants to start a war with the tribes of Far Afrika.
Sidekick(s): None.
The year is 1955. The world is different from when Dr. Jones first became interested in exploring it. War has broken out in Korea, and war in Vietnam seems inevitable. At home, Senator Joseph McCarthy's investigations into people suspected of being communists have destroyed countless lives. The Cold War seems set to turn hot at any moment. Dr. Jones has gotten tired of living in the States. He's had enough of seeing his country torn apart by paranoia and fear. So he's moved to a small hut in the jungle, a long way from anywhere. He's taken a teaching job at a small college, and writes to his daughter often. He wishes he could see her, but he knows that her own life is much different than it once was. She's a mother of two now, and as far as he knows she's still married to that Englishman. He doesn't exactly approve, but he loves her nonetheless. But he's not here to dwell on the past. He's here to escape it. He's heard rumors of an isolated tribe of people deep in the heart of the jungle. They're known as the Lost Tribes, and they're surrounded in mystery. Nobody knows where they came from, or what their beliefs are. Dr. Jones intends to find out everything. As he journeys on his expedition, he meets a young Israeli man trying to do the same. His name is Menachem, and he's a history professor at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Jones doesn't exactly get along with him at first, but an alliance becomes necessary when they're both captured by a group of hostile African bandits. They're soon separated, and Dr. Jones finds himself trapped in an underground cage with a black market profiteering scum named Rifat. Rifat's been selling off some of the tribes' Lost Tribes relics, but now he's struck a deal with the bandita leader: Dr. Jones and Menachem are to be executed in three days, so that Rifat can sell the rest of his loot without worry. It's up to Dr. Jones to escape from this predicament.

Indiana Jones and the Belly of the Whale

Villain(s): A megalomaniac and his army of brainwashed followers.
Opening Scene: In 1934, a plane carrying Dr. Jones, Deirdre and their fellow college classmates crash lands on a mysterious island. The only other survivor is a strange, yet kindly old man who calls himself Father Deep. He is blind, but possesses uncanny hearing and other senses. The old man tells them that they are in grave danger. "You must leave this place," he says. "God has cursed this island! A terrible evil dwells on the island, and it must not escape!" Dr. Jones doesn't quite know what to make of the old man's warnings, but his instincts tell him that he's a kind and honest man. The next day, they explore the island. It isn't long before strange things begin to happen. They are watched by unseen eyes, animals act very strangely around them, and some of their equipment disappears. Meanwhile, the old man becomes more and more agitated. "You must leave! You must leave before the moon turns red! Monkeys will rain down from the sky, and God himself will wash away the island in a great flood! You must leave now!" Dr. Jones is inclined to agree.
Ending Scene: Father Deep tries to stop them from leaving on their boat, but he is killed when the moon turns red and a tribe of monkeys attack the island. Dr. Jones and his friends sail away just in time, but they're unable to catch sight of the island when morning comes. It has simply vanished.

Indiana Jones and the Hanging Garden of Babylon
Exotic Location(s): Ancient Mesopotamia, more specifically the hanging gardens of the legendary city of Babylon.
Supernatural Elements: The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were considered a man-made wonder of the world. They were believed to have been planted and grown with the help of beings from another world.
Love interest(s): Dr. Jones meets a beautiful princess who lives in a palace at the very top of the Hanging Gardens.
Villain(s): A jealous prince seeks the king's throne.
Opening Scene: Dr. Jones has traveled to the ancient city of Babylon to see the legendary Hanging Gardens. He soon learns that a war between the king and one of his ambitious sons is looming, and tensions are high in the city. While staying at an inn, Dr. Jones is arrested and accused of being a spy. He is thrown into the dungeon to await his execution.
Ending Scene: After escaping from the dungeon and rescuing the beautiful princess from an assassination attempt, Dr. Jones and his companions flee from the city on horseback. A volley of arrows is fired at them from the battlements of the city walls, and one of the riders is hit. Dr. Jones turns around in his saddle and sees that the rider who was shot is the princess! Her body tumbles to the ground far below. Dr. Jones returns to the city to rescue her, but sadly he arrives too late.

Indiana Jones and the Dance of the Dead (ed: a reimagining??)
Exotic Location(s): An ancient graveyard located in a small, ancient town in England.
Supernatural Elements: 'Dance of the Dead' is a lovely name for a very creepy event. On certain nights, when the moon is full, the corpses from the local graveyard rise from their graves and dance under its light.
Love interest(s): Dr. Jones meets a pretty young widow who lives in the old mansion near the graveyard.
Villain(s): An evil sorcerer who has taken up residence in the abandoned mansion near the graveyard. His plan is to use the energy from the undead dancers to regain his own vitality.
Opening Scene: Dr. Jones is driving through the English countryside, when he accidentally runs over a herd of deer. He pulls over to the side of the road to check for damage to his car, when a man dressed in Elizabethian clothing steps out from the trees. He introduces himself as Lord Plumton, and explains that he is an Elizabethian lord who has transcended time and now lives in the present day. He goes on to say that he was hunting the herd of deer that Dr. Jones just ran over. Lord Plumton invites Dr. Jones to stay at his estate, and Dr. Jones gladly accepts since he is due to give a lecture at the local university. Dr. Jones arrives at the estate and meets Lord Plumton's lovely daughter, Rebecca. She takes him on a tour of the Elizabethian mannor before he gives his lecture. He falls in love with her. After his lecture, Dr. Jones retires to his bedroom. He suddenly hears gunfire and the sounds of a dying man outside his window. He opens it and discovers that he is at the edge of the nearby graveyard. He sees a black carriage speeding away, and decides to follow it.
Ending Scene: Dr. Jones gives chase to the black carriage. As he rounds the corner of the graveyard, he sees its demonic driver making haste for the waiting vehicle. Dr. Jones realizes that he is the same driver that took him to Lord Plumton's Elizabethian mannor. He leaps onto the carriage and fights the driver for control of the reins. They struggle mightily, but the driver is no match for the powerful professor. Dr. Jones steers the carriage back towards Lord Pluxton's Elizabethian mannor. When he arrives, he finds that Lord Pluxton's mansion is on fire. The blackened stones and ashy remains of its former inhabitants can be seen poking out from the rubble. Dr. Jones rushes into the burning building to save his beloved Rebecca. Inside, he finds her lying with her head bashed in next to Lord Pluxton's corpse. He knows he is too late. Rebecca is dead.

And then, well... things go a bit south for Indy:

quote:

Indiana Jones and the Heart of the Dragon
Exotic Location(s): A Monastery in the Himalayas.
Supernatural Elements: There is a supernatural element to this story. The island of Leshy is inhabited by an ancient creature by the same name. Nobody knows what the island's inhabitants truly are.
Love interest(s): There is a great deal of debate going on about whether or not Dr. Jones had or has a relationship with Dr. Susan Shields. It is certain they had a strong friendship.
Villain(s): General Mao and Dr. Chen are the two main villains.
Opening Scene: The opening scene is set at a museum in New York City. There is a grand celebration for Dr. Jones, who has just returned from his expedition to the fabled island of Leshy. The guests of honor arrive, with Dr. Jones and his wife, and the Mayor of New York. The museum's large hall is filled with a mixture of politicians, celebrities, socialites, and members of the press. Dr. Jones and his wife are guided to the front of the crowd, where they stand for a speech by the museum's curator. He welcomes them, and gives a long speech about their accomplishments. After the speech, there is an award presentation, and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Finally, everyone goes to examine the attractions. Dr. Jones and his wife stay to look at the new exhibit. The museum is closing in an hour, and most of the people have already left. While twisting her neck to look at some of the ancient pottery on display, Dr. Jones' wife suddenly clutches her chest in pain. Her face turns blue, and her knees buckle. Before anyone can do anything, she collapses on the floor. Dr. Jones attempts to give her CPR, but it is no use. She is dead. With tears in his eyes, Dr. Jones finally stands up. Police enter the museum and arrest him for murdering his wife. The news spreads, and a media circus begins.
Ending Scene: After three trials, all of which end in a guilty verdict, Dr. Jones files an appeal on the grounds that the police did not read him his Miranda Rights before questioning him. The police read him his rights, and after hours of interrogation Dr. Jones finally stops crying and gives the police the answers they want to hear. General Mao and Dr. Chen are brought to trial for the murders of his wife and various others. Dr. Jones testifies against them, saying he has no knowledge of what happened to his wife. He gives him a rare vase from his personal collection as a gift. That night, Dr. Jones hears a gunshot from his study. He runs in to find the lifeless body of his son on the floor. He also finds a letter on the desk, addressed to him. The letter reads:
Dear Dad,
If you are reading this, then I have left this world forever. I want you to know that it was not your fault. You were a good father. I have taken my own life because I have no other choice. I would rather die than face a lifetime in prison. I have taken the liberty of shipping my remains back to you. I'm sorry I couldn't make you proud.
Your son,
Indiana Jones

Ending Scene: Dr. Jones grieves over the death of his son, and buries him in a grave next to his mother. The following year, the U.S government invites Dr. Jones to Washington D.C. They want him to lead a group of archaeologists to Egypt. There, they plan on breaking ground on a new dig site, and want him to lead the excavation. Dr. Jones, heartbroken by his son's death, agrees to oversee the dig. He hopes that work will help him move on. The site is located in Alexandria, Egypt. The group of twenty-archaeologists manage to dig up a beautiful treasure. The largest and most magnificent of these treasures is a nearly intact side A of the Rosetta Stone. Dr. Jones is honored with a medal for his excellent work. He keeps the medal in his pocket, and never takes it out. It is the only memento he has of his son.

I hope the new movie picks up some of these very important plot threads!

Bot: Okay. The songs starts off with a D power chord, which gives a dark and sinister feel to the song. The vocalist has a harsh voice. He sings in English, and the lyrics are about drinking beer and killing a certain dictator that was alive during World War II.

Syd: What are the name and lyrics of your song?

Bot: This song is called "Drink Beer and Kill Hitler". The vocalist is singing about how he loves to drink beer and kill Hitler. The lyrics are:

I love drinking beer
and killing hitler
satan is my best friend
and god is my cuckold
I love beer
And I love to kill Hitler
I hate the Nazi's
I'm an American Doctor Rock

This man just wrote a song about his own name. He is as talented as Shakespeare. It's a masterpiece. The lyrics continue:

my name is Doctor Rock
satan is my best friend
and I love Drinking Beer
and killing hitler
meinlieber Adolf
I'm killing you today
and I love drinking beer
and I love to kill hitler
God I love to watch Nazis burn, and I love killing hitler
drink beer kill hitler
burn nazis burn
I'm killing you today and drinking beer
mein lieber hitler
kill kill kill
The vocalist begins to grunt loudly over the music.

This song was pretty heavy.

I like how it starts with "...killing a certain dictator that was alive during World War II" and then manages to do a proper follow-up .

I was watching simpsons at 0.75 without knowing until a scene where homer and bart were getting back massages at a hotel and the noises they were making were super drawn out like a youtube poop
Going to have to confirm that those are indeed some of the best lyrics every produced by anything ever.

Yeah, I was made aware of this. :( The name was so funny to me that I didn't even think to check it against the source material! At least "Gas Huffing" seemed too realistic to make the cut...

I know the prompt says "metal" but I can't help picturing an upbeat polka band performing it

It's all good - there's only so many combinations of four English words, and millions of people making albums, so a real title showing up is bound to happen occassionally!

The Quietest Hits! is such a perfect name, though, that I'm amazed no-one's used it. I'm pretty sure that if I found that, Birth is Happy Sad and/or Long Songs So Unusual in a record store I'd buy them without knowing anything about the artist.
