I’m just glad I was able to get my 3080FE from Best Buy at the end of April, and it was my bday month so go it for 10% off msrp. So spending over $2000 on a 3080ti is just sickening to me. And was able to get a 6700xt earlier that month, which is now in my living room PC. Now I just need to figure out how to unload my Vega56 and 5600xt they replaced, I feel like eBay is probably sketchy for buying or selling gpu’s these days. Don’t want a fake claim or something. What’s popular now? Is OfferUp still going strong or just doing FB Marketplace? May just do an auction on SAmart.

Some more bad news for people hoping that there will be relief on GPU shortages from ethereum - 2.0 proof of stake has been pushed back again until late 2022. Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/nt53mx/youll_be_shocked_to_hear_that_the_clock_for/ Not because of any technical reason. They could do it right now. It's because miners are really greedy and lazy with how things are right now, even as things are horribly wasteful and inefficient, and don't want to make that shift. So unless the current ethereum market bottoms out (it might, because it's growing nigh impossible for retail investors to buy in) or there's a bunch of government crackdowns on mining, then the greedy demand it generates for GPUs isn't going to slow down.

Spacedad posted:So unless the current ethereum market bottoms out (it might, because it's growing nigh impossible for retail investors to buy in) or there's a bunch of government crackdowns on mining, then the greedy demand it generates for GPUs isn't going to slow down. Eh, look at the difficulty charts, though. If you got a 3080 at msrp at release and mined the 23 hours a day you were not gaming, you could have paid it off by sometime in December. If you got one in December (I did!) you probably would have paid it off last month sometime. As number of cards in wild increases so will difficulty and we will land back in a spot where this is only profitable with huge rigs using stolen electricity. Right now if you pay 20cents per kwh AND your mining somehow is not impacting your cooling costs, your profit is still only something like $2-3 a day on a 3070, 3-4 on a 3080. Excluding costsof running the rest of the pc, that's just based on 230w of throttled 3080. If ETH really crashed hard it would become actively unprofitable. As much as I think crypto is dumb, the idea of a stateside crackdown alarms me more because I do not think the government should really be telling me what hashing functions are or are not allowed on hardware I own. On the other hand, if they wanted to tax hashing that results in profitable tokens and require paperwork to the point that it became completely impractical for the average person, sure. Seems way more effective to me to go after coinbase and the various ways of transacting crypto back into the real economy. Of course, those institutions pay taxes and have become part of the normal economy at this point. When I log into Fideliy and see poo poo about crypto it makes me think the cat is way, way, way out of the bag. Cabbages and VHS fucked around with this message at 14:58 on Jun 6, 2021 |

I have also been told that only the Founders Edition cards have basket reservation at Scan - with anything else, unless you have your details saved and are ninja fast, it'll be gone before you put your address in. They also restrict one per customer based on IP/card number/delivery address. I was fortunate to snag a 3060 Ti from Scan the other day but I've traded it up for a 3080 Ti a friend got and was nice enough to sell me with no markup.

You still have to watch stock alerts but it you get notification when they go live there's a good chance of getting one.
