That article leaves out a lot of information. Was there a shepherd who was just, like, free dog and put him to work? Or did he just stand up, shake off the broken glass, and take it upon himself to start rounding up some unattended sheep nearby?

Because with a border collie I could believe either one

My mate's collie would occasionally get loose and try to herd us (and any other random children in the area) back towards his house - he'd never even seen a sheep in his life, I guess it's just built into the hardware.

Spewing insults, pissing off all your neighbors, betraying your allies, backing out of treaties and accords, and generally screwing over the global environment?

My grandmother's old collie dog would do this except even if there was just a single animal around, like one rabbit, it had to be herded.

Do they always do that ouroboros thing when they're not actually moving or is it a threat response? Every pic I've ever seen of whatever they are they're in wheel form.

Threat response. Gets as many point outwards as possible and makes them larger and harder to swallow whole.

I watched the video and it's even better, the collie straight up chased off the original herding dogs and took care of the sheep himself. The sheep owner came out to find that he had some extremely upset dogs.

Every time a border collie is looking at you, they are quietly thinking 'Yes, and where are my sheep? Bring me to the sheep.'

We put a lot of effort into training the herding out of our corgi but she still insists on small children being arranged into a tight cluster. She's pretty good otherwise!

:kimchi: This.

Many years ago, we had a Maine Coon, Addison. He was an indoor cat, like our other two at the time, with free access to the outdoors via a cat door. He would occasionally disappear over night, but was typically home. He rarely missed a meal.

After he died, I found out (gradually) that he was going to at least four of my neighbors' homes on a regular basis, and would behave, essentially, like the cat in the video.

I only knew about the neighbor across the street, because she had a mortal fear of cats, and he would wander over there, & in through the sliding door off their deck, constantly. She'd call, from her bathroom, door shut, for me to come & retrieve him. He'd invariably be sprawled out on the living room floor, bathing.

There's effectively a polycule going on with the cats around here, with the 8 or so cats "owned" by 4 families but really just popping in to whichever house they feel like. They tend to congregate most around the house with the lady who always has her kitchen door open when cooking, or roam depending on the sun position, but will also pop in to the student house down the end (who aren't allowed to *own* cats but there's no way for the landlord to stop them just letting cats in) for treats and stroking.

I also *strongly* suspect the reason my cat is so insistent on - and adept at - removing any collar I try to put on him is that with his former owner he'd twigged that without a collar on it was much easier for him to walk in to other peoples houses and demand food, because that's exactly what the little poo poo does the moment my back's turned.

Can confirm, I work at a small college and we have a few campus cats. We even have dedicated shelters and an organization on-campus that works with a local animal shelter to trap and spay/neuter them and get kittens fostered and adopted.
