He left Akbayan in 2015 because the party had thrown in its lot with the Liberal Party under then-President Benigno Aquino. Currently, Akbayan has one seat in the House, and one Senator in the upper chamber, but they caucus and vote with the liberals all the time, and this latest back-stabbing just seals the deal. You can't fall for the reactionary right's accusation that serving members of the House are actually stealth communist insurgents and still credibly claim to be a leftist.

I think it's because they do the interviews in Kazakhstan where refugees have escaped to, which obviously has a bias for Kazakhs

They're mostly Kazakh because there's an Almaty-based NGO that funnels testimony to reporters and groups sources for interviews junket-style.
