But you're right that "interactive" fiction, like Choose-Your-Own-Adventure stuff, is often the pulpiest of the pulp, and while fun, not necessarily well-written, meaning that just writing doesn't translate to that other form of entertainment.

I wonder if the Yoshis are getting cut and replaced with one of those, with Bowser/Rosalina filling up the 9th slot Peache's weapon also seems to be different. Instead of a like, wide spread shotgun thing, she seems to have an umbrella with a rocket launcher on top. Yoshi was the rocket launcher one in the last game

In fact, there's seven on the splash screen right now. Mario, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Rosalina, Rabbid... Bowsette?, Bowser, Luigi, and Peach. The screenshots also show Rabbid Luigi so that's 8. So that leaves a 9th. My guess is that they're not gonna bring back Yoshi, Rabbid Yoshi or Rabbid Mario. Rabbid Bowsette(?) looks like she might replace the big melee Rabbid since she's got some kind of sword. Either Rosalina is gonna be the eighth, or there's gonna be some really wacky choice for the final one. Maybe it's Donkey Kong. Of course I could be wrong and it could simply be one of the three I mentioned are just coming back.

The screenshots DO show that you can at least put one of the other characters in front in the overworld. I would be shocked if you can remove Mario from the team completely though, I have to imagine that's a thing that Nintendo probably is like "you can do whatever else you want, but Mario has to always be in the party"
