The IGN stream is far more interesting than the dev zoom meeting on the other one, even if every other game is about skateboarding apparently?

Yeah I went ahead and wishlisted that one. Still clearly in a VERY early state but the visuals were interesting enough even so. Looks like a Little Nightmares / INSIDE kind of thing with a fairy tale bent, perhaps

There were two others that interested me but I have the brain of a goldfish and I've already forgotten what they were

e: oh yeah one might've been Olliolli World. I really like those games so more of that is never bad. Although I already know about it

IGN Friday
  • Mortal Shell DLC
  • Black Skylands the weird top down gta in the sky that looks like a flash game
  • Wild West Dynasty sounds like a generic mobile game but the trailer as far as I can tell involves making a map with lego pieces, 3d scanning it, 3d printing it, sculpting over the 3d printing to add detail, then scanning it yet again just to get it into a normal 3d terrain generator? Why so much effort? This was by far the most fascinating trailer for the least interesting game.
  • Yet another metroidvania
  • Broken Pieces: Timelord Lara Croft looks interesting
  • Stalker: Chernobyl Diaries looks eurojank
  • Bramble looks good
  • OlliOlli and Skatebird have been announced before, still look good

Koch event - lol no

My recap of the Prime Matter thingy, which was dreadful.

-----

Prime Matter (Koch Media subsidiary, which is an Embracer Group subsidiary, the corp that also owns Deep Silver and THQ Nordic and Coffee Stain and Gearbox and Saber and okay I'm just gonna stop now, my head hurts) showcase is here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc_n96lAPWs&t=554s

This is Embracer/Nordic Games once again doing some internal rebranding (they've been doing that a lot over the last few years) and establishing a "hardcore gamer" publishing label or something. I don't know, it's dumb. They already have several of them!

Anyway, most of the things that appeared here had very little content shown. This was IMO terribly produced. They didn't correctly message what sort of event this was; I don't think most people expected it to be 2 hours with 90%+ talking heads.

Games "featured":

The Chant from Brass Token. Third-person horror adventure set in a meditation retreat. They did not show any footage, instead it was just a guy talking. If you want media, you need to go to the studio's website and find the screenshots yourself. Why would you talk about the game and not show anything when the media is already out there?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance from Warhorse is coming to Switch. Yay? And they are very proud of having their own brand of beer.

Final Form from Reikon (devs of Ruiner). To quote: "Final Form is an action-packed epic sci-fi FPS in which you are a female-form humanoid machine on a space mission with no return". Got that? Yeah. They showed like 15 secs of prototype gameplay, so this isn't out until at least 2024. It has a website, featuring the same teaser plus screenshots.

Dolmen from Massive Work. The audio was so poor that I couldn't really understand much that the lead programmer was saying but it's a hardcore RPG set in a sci-fi universe that's inspired by Lovecraft and Giger. Yeah, that's all I got. Website is here.

King's Bounty II from 1C. Someone was plugging and unplugging something from the computer during this interview, so you could hear the Windows notifications. That's the most interesting thing that happened during this interview.

Scars Above from Mad Head Games (they've made over 60 games, but it is all mobile hidden object stuff). Lady scientist is stranded on an inhospitable planet in space, must shoot and logic her way to safety while fighting exotic alien lifeforms. I don't know... looks okay, I guess.

Encased from Dark Crystal Games. Isometric 3D RPG that looks very inspired by old-school Fallout and Wasteland and has SCP elements thrown in, slathered in a faux-60's presentation. Several career paths to follow, could be interesting. Game's website is here. This has been in Early Access since September 2019.

Echoes of the End from Myrkur Games. No footage was shown, epic, sprawling Witcher-like RPG with player choice and a big setting. Bits of media available here.

The Last Oricru from Gold Knights. Challenging, skill-based action RPG, set in a "living and breathing" sci-fi medieval world. Nothing shown, but the game's website has a few screenshots.

Payday 3 from Starbreeze. Nothing shown, the developers admit the game itself is still years away. They talk about the playerbase a lot. A LOT.

Even the official primematter.gg website does not feature media for the games other than the messy showreel (which doesn't indicate which game is what).

TL;DR: Very bad presentation that had almost nothing to show, even though everything was pre-recorded in advance and Geoff Keighly occasionally pops in to tell you how excited he is.

Most spoken words: "Sci-fi", "epic", "RPG", "years away", "early", "ambitious", "players", "hardcore"

I hope more companies do that thing Nintendo does often and only showcase games a year at most before release.

Mario Odyssey's marketing was perfect. First hit people with a reveal showcasing that it's Mario and blowing up the internet with New Donkers. Then double that up with possessions and an incredible song at E3. Boom.

I'm less and less interested in "Here's a logo, and a game is 3 years away", or "here's a CGI, and a game is 2 years away" poo poo.

The only devs I cut slack for this sort of things are indie devs. I genuinely understand if you need to raise funds to get your game actually finished. I have no interest in yet another AAA action platformer that's 2 years away.
