When you’re a kid, your hobbies and media consumption make up a substantial portion of your sense of self because you haven’t done enough living to know what you believe or to have real priorities. That’s pretty similar in some ways to all the adult chuds who found their politics entirely on the media they consume because they never did any living or cared about anything but themselves. Of course, there’s still hope for the kids, though.

I mean it feels very weird to say because I think we all know that the fight for anyone's liberation is nowhere near over but it's impossible to ignore that a lot of these validity focused 17 year olds who do poo poo like say the 3d bear man giving money to people who want them dead is fine because he just wants to have his opinions, or will regurgitate right wing talking points to call people who go to pride in leather pedophiles, are also the first generation to grow up in an american society where you PROBABLY won't turn the tv on and hear the protagonist of a young person's show call someone a 'human being' for laughs and where being nominally 'pro-black/queer/immigrant' is actually a profitable branding for corporations to do.
