Yeah, it just felt very tonally dissonant. Early on, it goes for an extremely satirical, even farcical tone, where you have mortally wounded soldiers quoting advertising slogans to you because it's in their contract. Which in principle would've been fine, if they'd stuck to it. But then they quickly compromise it in an attempt for a semi-genuine morality tale, which doesn't really have much of an impact. How does the game expect me to care about the oppression of NPC A, when just minutes earlier I watched NPCs B through K get mutilated basically just for a quick laugh?

Oh a few interface related tips. If you hold down ALT on a planet it'll show all the potential slipway lanes a planet can have (with your current range tech) AND the potential imports/exports on those lanes for any colony type you can build there. If you hold down alt while placing a structure it will also display its potential slipway lanes as well. In addition if you open the build menu on a planet you can right click a colony type selection to pin that colony to the planet temporarily (but not actually build it) you can do this to multiple worlds which can make planning things out and spitballing ideas easier IMO. They go away pretty easily though if you left click empty space.

So... what are the differences between Mordhau and Chivalry 2? At a glance, Mordhau definitely seemed a lot more interesting than 1, what with classes with abilities beyond "swing sword at dude".

did you mean chivalry 2? mordhau only has classes in the sense you create one by building a loadout of weapons and (mostly passive) skills. chivalry 2 straight up has 4 different classes with different weapon selections/abilities between them

The presentation is really really nice, but it's hard for me to get a grasp on what the game will eventually be like. There's 1 million subsystems, the menus are crazy, and it looks like it's gonna be very grindy to interact with those subsystems.

There's definitely a lot of opaqueness to the mechanics. I leveled up 10 times by the end of the prologue and they seem meaningless. No stat or skill choices to make. I can't tell if it's more of a Dibalo-like where you actually have a lot of customization over how you build your characters skill/moveset or more of a standard MMO where each person playing the same class will basically have the same skills and the only differences are based off equipment.

Yeeeup, that sure sounds like an Asian MMO. And, to some extent, all MMOs

Actively putting files on the corkboard and following leads and thinking about this conspiracy is really, really compelling and I'm learning about something that actually happened. Folks should check this out.

This looks super cool and right up my alley. I CRAVE more investigative games that don't hold your hand and require real effort, memory and insight to solve.

I've been plugging along in FFIX, and it's pretty straight forward in that it's a 90s era jrpg, meaning tons of missable important items and weird requirements to 100%, which isn't even technically possible since you have to speedrun the game in 12 hours to get one of the ultima weapons, tons of confusing abilities/job/class stuff, and a card game that is ludicrously over-complicated and completely divorced from the game's progression aside from a single story forced event.

100%ing a game is so ludicrously unnecessary. Set your soul free, friend. Leave that for the ones whos brains don't give them a choice

Someone else mentioned it's only about an hour or two, and that's about right (and I'm usually much slower than the "how long to beat this game" time). It's good but the ending feels a bit abrupt. I had just reorganized my corkboard (putting all the pictures in the middle), assuming I was going to be digging for another name to connect to the conspiracy, but then it faded to black after I got the next (and last) document. I'm hoping the dev is working on a sequel, because I am here for cross-referencing investigative action.

I mean, Her Story and Telling Lies are kinda right up there. You use a video database and keywords to slowly unravel the truth.

Also, recent game Lacuna has investigative elements. I wish they were slightly more involved but there is the odd tricky segment and it has a good story. Overall we desperately need more and better investigative titles with well-designed cases/puzzles.

Maybe not XBOX, at least right away, but Deathloop will be on PC as well. Ghostwire Tokyo, another Bethesda one is also like that. Seems like it's unclear if they're launching on both PS5 and PC or just PS5 to start but eventually it will be available on both. And who knows about XBOX, plenty of games end up getting ported later in the their life cycle or when exclusivity agreements lapse. I don't think we know the exact details of those deals

No, I meant Mordhau. As in, you could build a... loadout that had stuff to do beyond "hit dude with sword" (axe) (hammer) - traps, bows, support, medic, engineer etc.

Yeah, it's this. It's also not as super hardcore as Mordhau, it's newer so you won't be going up against uber fans who'll smoke you without any issues and it's not catering to white supremacists because you can play as women and have non-white skin tone.

You primarily spend time hitting people with sword to build up a meter that lets you do other things like heal people, throw out incendiary grenades or what have you.

Cowcaster

i think you’re thinking there’s more weight to the diversity of play than there actually is. a “medic” in mordhau is a guy who drops one medpack for a player and then is essentially done for that life. a “trapper” might have brought a bear trap or two. a “engineer” can build stuff and repair map determined barricades but it’s all of dubious usefulness. the prime focus of both games is 90% “hit man with sword” and you’re not going to have a good time if you think you can play like a tf2 medic or something

It's not immediately apparent, but Chivalry 2 has much the same abilities, just as an integral part of the various classes. For example, Chiv 2 has an "Engineer" class that does double damage to structures (including destructible objectives like castle gates) and can deploy bear traps and palisades. Other classes can do things like throw medkits, plant a healing banner on the ground, throw fire bombs, deploy sharpened stakes that damage enemies, and so on. Some of these are available from the get-go, others are abilities that you charge up as you play and earn points.

The main difference in terms of playstyle is that Chiv 2 is more streamlined. It is very discrete in what the various actions like block, kick, and counter do, distilling them down to essentially a rock-papers-scissors system with a sort of initiative system like many fighting games have. Usually when you get hit, it's very easy to look back and recognize why that has happened. Mordhau by comparison is more freeform, giving you more potential tricksy ways to get around the enemy defense through feints or fakeouts, but is in turn somewhat harder to read. Sometimes you just completely get poo poo on by some gimmick without getting an attack in edgewise, and you can hardly tell what you're even supposed to do about it at first.

the optimal way to play Chivalry 2 is to howl like a maniac and cannonball into the nearest cluster of 6+ enemies, cutting down half of them because they're hitting each other more than they're hitting you

Yeah, there's a tag for explicit sex games that you can flag for exclusion. I don't remember which of steam's 4 settings menus it is in though. It helps though it won't fix the problem entirely. A lot of porn games get around the tag filter by not showing explicít sex parts or providing nude patches hosted elsewhere.

Pretty cute game but yeah, the slow move speed, but the akwardness of firing, plus the instant death and loooooong walk-back penalty just made it unfun. Watched a speedrun of it after and was glad I dipped out rather than keep throwing myself at it. A lot of the boss puzzles looked legit fun to figure out the trick to winning... but with how the game is structured it was be so long in between actual boss fight attempts that it was Not Fun. If you died and instantly respawned at start of fight, that'd be keen, I would've tried to beat it. Slow death cutscene, slow rebirth cutscene, long tedious trivial walk through a boring slow to navigate landscape was a bad design choice.

The setting is under the "<account name>" dropdown menu at the top right, near the minimize/maximize buttons. <account name> -> Store preferences and there should be a full-page thing of mature content. The last tickbox removes all the hentai trash, they have example titles too. What are some good tactics/squad games options on steam? I just finished another heavily modded run of X-com 2 and am relatively clueless as to what else is out there from the last three years or so. I also really enjoyed the smaller scope of Invisible Inc and Chimera Squad as well.

I'm down with fantasy/sci-fi/comteporary as long as the characters or plot have something to them. I already own Troubleshooters apparently and didn't love the first hour or two of Fae Tactics. Real time stuff like Desperados 3 was solid but I prefer a turn based or initiative system over real time.

Any suggestions out there?
