So I've seen Bitcoin being promoted heavily as a hedge against inflation. Also with the latest run on meme stocks starting to wind down I expect some of that money to go back into Bitcoin as well.

So I am purchasing some RIOT calls at $38 with a 7/18 expiration. I share this with you all so you may take pleasure in watching me lose some money on a dumb prediction that's not quite dumb enough to work in this particular market.

It's Tuesday and it's below a recent peak.

I'd be the first to panic, otherwise. But Tuesday when the stock isn't a meme is as predictable as the phase of the moon.

Yeah I’m not worried about it at all. I’ve been to a lot of courtyard Marriott and the like recently and occupancy is pretty high and services/staffing are cut to the bone. I bet they’re more profitable right now than they were pre pandemic.

AHT and IVR are exercises in bagholding at this point, look at their P/B, market cap, and assets / liabilities histories on macrotrends

there are no 100% gains to be found there except via pump and dumps like most wsb stocks (edit: or holding years, I guess)

Many hotels are trying to reduce service where it's mostly digital check-in, daily room cleanings are no longer done but if want something you've got to request it from your phone app.

I got in with AHT at like $4.50 and it is so volatile that the calls I sell against it are at dumb strikes like 7 or 8 bucks with 30 delta and 0.80 bid. So for 100 shares It cost me $450 and I am writing calls giving me $80 of premium for the monthlys. Once the IV drops and I am still in the green on the stock then I will drop it and move on to whatever other penny stock has high IV and repeat.

The stock you hold is an asset and just sitting on it means you are leaving money on the table.

I value your opinion a lot so I hate to see you say that about IVR after i buy calls. RIP.

Options flow was firmly bullish on Friday and money but I couldn't buy in due to day trader rules, I flipped some CLOV last week for a nice 20% in 4 hours and ofc didn't check the options flow on IVR today so that will teach me.

Maybe get a bounce tomorrow after jpow.

Also thinking of taking some air BnB calls tomorrow.

IVR was interesting because I learned about a new influential Twitter account due to it and made a few bucks on calls last week. But dig into their history and you see they got a bunch of assets liquidated during the 2020 crash and typically trade under book value. It’s probably a fine business but it will NOT revert to its 2019 market cap this summer except via a social pump.

AHT is a bit different because they largely retained assets but took on debt and otherwise made deals to stay afloat. It’s kind of like a cruise line recovery situation, perfect recovery is pretty much already priced in the market value.

But what if I'm already up 110% on AHT?

I think AHT will continue to go up as things re-open. I think the stumble its had the last few days has been speculation/worry about the potential impact the delta strain of covid-19 might have on them.

I think people over value charts when they're investing in stocks. Retail investor sentiment matters too, as evidenced by GME or AMC or other 'meme' stocks. Not saying AHT will become one, but there are plenty of investors out there who will see it as a value buy. I think for the forseeable future, investor sentiment will matter more than technicals when it comes to stock prices, especially as more inexperienced retail investors join the marketplace via cash app, robinhood, ally, and whatever other phone apps make it incredibly easy to make trades.

https://www.irmagazine.com/small-cap/recent-trends-retail-investing-what-does-it-mean-issuers

I think this trend will continue to hold, as more millenials (and zoomers) get to the age where they want to start investing.

There's also everyone betting the farm that Powell will say the magic word ("inflation") and everything will go deeply red before it goes extremely green.

I'm inclined to agree given how rational the market is.

Tech, biotech, anything real estate. And for fun you should watch Oil, Gold, Silver, etc., lumber, all the giants.

Vice, necessities, and entertainment will dip a little. I can't imagine the sky falling on tobacco, alcohol, weed, food, and movies and tv and cruises and casinos, etc.

Retail could be a bloodbath depending on the speech.

I don't think anyone can say what meme stocks will do.

My long shot hope is something inexplicable like a panic sell-off of something silly like ammunition or food or energy that overcorrects by a huge margin. That could be a massive quick in / quick out.

No but seriously, the delta variant is worse in every way and all the majority unvaccinated southern states aren’t ready. Also, covid is “over” so there will be no more stimulus.
