There's no other kind, really. It takes so much work to obtain and maintain an organic certification that the chances of an independent farmer doing it, even if they don't use pesticides and such, is basically nil.

So Paul is blaming the current situation in the Green Party on the Liberals and that their poaching of Atwin as an attack on her in order to win the next election.

quote:

She also placed blame on the Liberal Party for targeting her success by poaching Atwin, stating that above all else, the past week has shown her that her Liberal opponents are willing to do what it takes to win a majority in the next election.
“They are cynical. They are aggressive in pursuit of their majority in the next election,” she said. “They’re willing to sow division, they’re willing to encourage people to turn against their beliefs and they will stop at almost nothing, even if it means suppressing the views of their newest member, even if it means going after the first Black and Jewish woman to be elected to this role.”

To which Melanie Joly replied "sorry you feel that way."

Meanwhile Operation Black Voters Canada is disappointed in the whole situation because it threatens to regress their goals of better representation and diversity in Canadian politics. Their main point is that they feel that Paul has not been given the same respect or treatment as other party leaders or even Elizabeth May.

I'm of two minds on the subject. One, yes there is definitely a racist angle to all of this and Paul is getting singled out for who she is. On the other hand, she's also a crap politician doing a poo poo job of running a rich yuppie party and she doesn't have the fangs to swing with the establishment. Of course the Liberals were going to swing in at every chance to crush the Greens and expecting them to play fair or to not ratfuck her before she even had a chance to get her foot in the door rings of naivety that she doesn't have a good answer for besides the obvious "they're against me because I'm black and jewish" challenge.

It sucks for black politicians, it sucks for the Greens, it was entirely predictable and Canadians deserve better representation to make the political class more than a worthless husk of ambitious schemers.

The issue with Black political representation in Canada, is that every single party I've seen acts like the US GOP. They don't give a gently caress, they want to check off a box. The consequence of that is it you're not driven by distilled avarice, you're going to be driven out, because they won't defend you when racists attack you, and they won't listen to you when you say something they don't want to hear; if you are, you'll put up with it and you can have a fairly decent career at the cost of your morals.

The Liberals really didn't poach Atwin, Atwin decided to quit on the Greens because Annamie Paul's spokesman said she would work to defeat her, the Liberals said yes because they always say yes to a free seat.

It's like I didn't notice I won $2 on a scratch and win. I wonder if I'm going to get to vote for Dimitri Lascaris again out of this.

When I joined the NDP a couple years back I spent the year receiving solicitations for donations and absolutely nothing related to internal party happenings, plans, newsletters, etc. I'm only now technically a Green to have been able to vote for a socialist leader, but I am much more impressed with their party structure. I've been getting updates about regional representatives, virtual meetings and other attempts to build a party that aren't just "$200 please and we'll take it from here". A guy vying to be the candidate for my riding actually gave me a call the other day to chat about a couple policy stances that were most important to him and to ask what was important to me.

Are they taking her at face value or are they mocking someone who definitely deserves it.

It's the latter. There's really no downside. Either she's blowing hot smoke about being an actor, or she's legitimately trying to become one, and both are worthy of derision.

I've heard a perspective that the Greens are useful because they are so unlikely to ever have any power that they can take truly controversial stances and say things the other parties would be afraid to say. Essentially they exist to have nothing to lose.

Don't know if that's actually actually borne out in their behavior tho.

If you elect Greens they'll establish colleges of homeopathy, naturopathy and chiropractic, allow homeopathic 'medicine' to be sold in pharmacies, and permit private insurance to cover all of the above.

(I'll give Liberals some credit for dropping public coverage of chiro in Ontario).

I don't know much about the Federal Greens, admittedly, though have heard about their love of holistic remedies. For a while the Green policy document included a weird MRA segment about restoring parental rights to divorced men who aren't allowed to see their kids, because the Greens are a small enough party that any persistent weirdo can get their pet issue into its policy documents.

Canadian press ran with the headline Canada excoriated as racist failure during farewell speeches by departing MPs lumping Qaqqaq's speech in with a discussion of the speech of a Bloc Quebec MP that went on about how Canada "stole" the 1995 referendum on Quebec independence and stole its symbols — the maple leaf and the beaver — from Quebec. Of course we've previously discussed how discrimination against French Canadians is worse actually than any other group in Canada.

It's rich how Annamie Paul says she's never asked for special treatment. Nevermind wanting to run unopposed in Morneau's riding so she could have a seat.

Now she's back on the "Liberals are bad because they want to win at all costs." and she's calling out Trudeau for being no feminist.

It's amazing how she pivots within a few sentences. This was supposed to be about her surviving a potential no confidence vote so it's funny that she's talking about how Trudeau won't be the one to push her out of politics when she's being threatened within her own party. He won't need to do anything if she keeps ostracizing her caucus.

But your statement that no independent farmers get organic certifications is bullshit, as a quick perusal of any farmers market in Vancouver can easily confirm.

Exactly and a quick Google for Ontario info got me this

which in the 'Scenarios' section lays out some costs for small producers which are by no means crippling.
