there's still a few very tough bosses though. false king, maneaters and flamelurker are the main ones

They're tough but also they're very much proto-souls bosses, so if you have any experience with the other games then they're a lot less intimidating. When I played DeS on PS3 at launch for NA I had to summon my way through those bosses, 11 years later on PS5 I soloed them with relative ease. Flamelurker was the only one that managed to kill me. I stumbled into the Maneater boss door by accident and still trashed em lol.

I reckon I spent 2 hours over a couple of sessions trying to beat Genichiro and on my last try he went down in under a minute. From that point on I just crushed everything in the game because he taught me how to play. When I got to owl I just beat him into a corner, at which point he hesitated and I smashed him to bits. It was brutal.

Probably my favourite action game ever. Give me more of that clashing steel!

I made a rather gushing post in another thread when I found out that Tenchu composer Noriyuki Asakura worked on Sekiro's soundtrack sub rosa :allears:

ummm, yo, I surmised that Sekiro's soundtrack by Yuka Kitamura was prolly an homage to what were the best-in-class Tenchu game soundtracks of old by Noriyuki Asakura...but I had absolutely no idea that Asakura himself is actually credited as working on the Sekiro soundtrack. That's amazing, how am I only just learning of this?

For anyone who's interested here's some of Asakura's work on the Tenchu series, perhaps my favorite videogame music ever and really there was nothing else like it in gaming back in 1998:

Sekiro is one of the most engaging games I’ve ever played, even the way you hold the controller with your gaze razor sharp on the enemy, waiting for your chance to strike, it’s wonderful.

Nothing in Sekiro was as frustrating to me as playing DS2 on launch and seeing a message floating on a ledge that looked out of bounds, so i'm like "oh poo poo secret item"

So after spending like an hour parkouring and doing bullshit to get to this secret ledge i landed on it and the message just said "horse but hole" and i closed the game.

lmao, this is the best thing to do in DS though
leaving a message on the other side of the try jumping message that everyone encounters that leads down to lower undead burg (if you have enough vitality) and then seeing a pool of blood spread brought a wicked grin to my face

My game of the year 2019 was Prey (2017) but if I had played Sekiro that year as well it would have been my number 1.

At least Elden Ring is out next year. Not sure what I would do if I had to organise another Fromsoftware games into a top ten list already containing five of their games.

Yeah, Asakura started getting pretty experimental by the time the third game rolled around. For contrast, here's Onikage's music from the first game, a better track in my opinion

I think you're right here. For me, mastering Sekiro sort of felt like getting really good at a paid internship I don't like, located in a really impressive building I don't care about.

My true destiny is to cranky old man yell at Elden Ring as I die over and over again, completely fooling anyone within earshot into thinking I'm having an awful time.

For me it was probably beating Lady Butterfly. Beating Genichiro on the rooftop was superb, but Lady Butterfly was the first major roadblock I hit and figuring that out was such a great feeling.
