Let's not forget that the entire country of El Salvador is getting in on the Tether scam. For those unaware El Salvador recently passed a law making bitcoin legal tender, which on its own is extremely stupid for a country where only 45 percent of people have internet access. But it gets stupider. Because 1/4 of El Salvadorans work abroad in the U.S. and remittance back to the U.S. constitutes a $5.6 billion flow of money, it's as much as their countries entire net exports. The government is teaming up with a firm called Strike to make it so these remittances get converted to Tether on their way back, presumably so they can skim real dollars off the top to fund yachts and other corrupt government official nonsense. So instead of having dollars these unbanked poor people now have useless digital dollar substitutes while the government legally absconds with their cash. If all of this sounds absurdly stupid, that's because it is.

They kind of got thrown under the bus. Frankly I bet a lot of the issue was d.c. not understanding the difference between judicial and non judicial states and just what that meant. But all the mandated workout options they pushed for were super useless technocratic poo poo that simultaneously gave homeowners a ton more time to stay in their houses. the average time in the backlogged judicial states from default to eviction was 5 years, and then tenants got a federal mandated 90 day waiting period before an eviction case could even start It was a giant mess of perverse incentives on all sides , of course the banks cheated as much as they could with the whole robo signing poo poo let alone outright fraud by law firms. But CARES did a ton for homeowners compared to 08 so it really does seem like d.c. wants people in their homes this time. Maybe because the only expensive homes leading up to '20 were in the 'right' neighborhoods instead of everywhere so congress was ok with the homeowner bailout this time

Georgism was an interesting product of the time but it didn't employ the immortal science so it was doomed. Nowadays if someone is talking about it there's a 90% chance they're a history geek or 10% chance they're the fringe who want land reform and the destruction of the rent seeking class but also despise socialism One of the most interesting things about it was how it was the 2nd best selling book of that century behind the bible but it was so unpopular with the handful of people who actually matter that it has been effectively cleansed from the historical record
