This might be a super dumb question, do the machines that check your tickets care about the time and whether a ticket is for off peak or not or is that the sole domain of actual human inspectors? Asking cause my work wants people to start coming into the office 3 days a week next month, they have flexitime but I don't want to start work at 10 and finish at 6:30 every day. I'd read that flexible season tickets (for people like me who'd be working from home half the time) were going to be introduced at some point this year when I took the job so thought I'd be alright but they seem to not be happening now. If get off peak tickets daily for the days I need to go in, it's around £128 per month, if I get peak time ones then it'd go up £180-190 and a monthly ticket is £294 so would definitely prefer to just buy an off peak one each day even if queueing is a hassle.

Just saw this - apparently these flexi season tickets are available now: (England only)

Couple of those were bullying pricks or homophobes themselves, and the ones that were not may have been told to put in reports by the nasty ones - this was right at the height of the Brexit debate. Remember, it was the Tories pushing these allegations and never trust a Tory.

I like this. "Yeah, gently caress subtext, my brother's tweet was too subtle, going to tag Rayner in this" is fun.

Anyway, just back from my 2nd covid jab. home less than 3 minutes after my appointment was due is not bad going. They have obviously gotten very slick, it's really just "hi, any side effects from the first one? How long ago did you get it? *jab* right you need to go to this website written on this piece of paper for verification you've got it, are you driving home off you pop"

Extremely impressed.

Leader of the Opposition Bercow - while not going to progress left goals - would give Labour someone with a chance of winning - and prime minister question time would be amazing every week.

The Health and Care Professions Council are pretty strict on which countries they'll recognise as training professionals to the same standard as the UK, so there are a lot of countries where you can train as a Physio and not be able to work in the UK.

It's also a problem with some foreign-trained medical doctors - which is why the BMA have recently started offering training posts where doctors who trained in countries with non-recognised Medicine degrees can basically get signed off as competent clinicians.
A similar thing does not, sadly, exist for other professions. Which is why there are lots of African nurses working in Healthcare Assistant posts, often in adult mental health/learning disabilities settings.

I would in all honesty trust a foreign-trained "uncredentialed" nurse more than a doctor in a similar situation. You can find some truly dire cases about unscreened doctors from Eastern Europe which were exempt from competency testing (EU) who have made statements like "that scar means the patient has no brain".

I have been told there's a glass ceiling for foreign trained nurses from entering management roles?

I don't want a non-socialist Labour to win though. I want a non-socialist Labour to be entirely unviable, in fact to wither away & die. Things are too bad to accept this slow managed decline of what's left of the welfare state as "the least worst option".

I can't agree, at all. I don't particularly want to be an accelerationist but there's no alternative. Labour are firmly the US Democrats at this point, we gently caress you but slightly less than the other guys as a guiding ideology. It's not tolerable. In the short, medium or long term. (It's also not a particularly viable electoral strategy because if I want to be hosed over by cunts why wouldn't I just vote for the oval office Party instead of Cunts-Lite? And if I want an alternative, well, why would I vote for the party who desperately want to be the Cunts but went to the wrong school?)

I've been living outside of the UK for around two and a half years, and I'm also not (and have never been) earning enough to be repaying my loan. Now and then I get a letter/email saying I need to tell them what's going on and update my employment details on the gov website. obviously if this is negatively affecting me in some way then I will do it, but I'm not sure if it is or not?

Yeah, hard verbal abuse, intimidation, coercion & physical abuse (mostly non sexual) allegedly.

I find it weird hearing adults use the word 'bullying' though, people just don't seem to give it the same weight when it's referring to adults.

It just doesn't work as a gotcha descriptor because the kind of people who are abusive like that as an adult aren't bothered by it. They seem to see it as a positive. Like when Guardian columnists call Bercow a bully he's probably mildly irritated, BoJo seems to take it as a badge of honor that he's tough, uncompromising, driven etc.

Also I think most people would have sympathy for a kid who's being bullied, less so for an adult.

I say this as someone who has been bullied at knofepoint, and my Dad had to take anti anxiety meds for a while because of an abusive manager who was targetting him (thank God he still knew a bunch of old school union guys who hadn't retired yet and were able to sort it out).

Just the word 'bullying' feels like it minimises the seriousness of it, almost infantilises both parties in the situation instead of framing it as exploiter and exploited.

I don't know if I'm making sense or not, but it's not that I don't think bullying is serious - I very much do. I just don't think the word 'bully' carries the same weight as an adult and in most people's minds minimises the serious of what's happening.

yeah tbh i personally prefer the word "abuse" - i think it describes both the poo poo that goes on in the workplace and in schools much better than "bullying". "bullying" as a word, in my opinion, works to minimise the effects of, well, bullying - it almost carries the "boys will be boys" connotations; like its all just childs play and nothing *really* serious - whereas in reality it's anything but. it doesn't matter if it's a dickhead boss, dickhead colleagues, a dickhead teacher or a bunch of dickhead schoolmates commiting the abuse - it's all abuse and all has the potential to be very harmful

just filling in the online form and declaring you're earning below the threshold should stop them from hassling you

fake edit: now I've gone down the rabbit hole and know why you're putting it off - Depending on where you are now living it depends on if where you live and work has a lower repayment threshold than the UK (which is why SLC want to know about it) Non-dom stuff gets messy in the clearest of situations so I won't offer any *advice* per say other than it's probably better to let them know now to save yourself massive headaches in the long run

Anyway the rules are already clear on this, the rest of the team will be PCR tested but not be required to isolate unless they test positive. Now the more important question is where did he pick it up, if they're all supposed to be in covid-secure bubbles?

I agree, but I wish that this country took bullying in schools seriously enough that "bullying" didn't automatically come with baggage minimising it's seriousness.

It's hosed up that we as a society just accept that some people will be subjected to cruelty by their peers for most of their formative years.
