double lmao then.

though, isnt it strategically unwise for them specifically to sink the government over it then? since you know it will have become toxic. or do they count on an absolute liberal/right wing/fash (i repeat myself) majority next go around to just push it down the country's throat with impunity?

Making "the left" lose is its own reward. Every time they show that social democrats are losers, they convince more of their voters to leave the sinking ship.

Come talk to us when they sell complete control over the public energy grid to Goldman Sachs on the advice of McKinsey, whom the responsible minister then gets hired by, and it's all legal and no problem at all and now he's the editor of Børsen ("The Exchange"), the most pro-finance, free market and private enterprise newspaper.

it's a high-bourgeois culture in decline, basically. the same bourgeois liberality that makes denmark make good, edgy movies and childrens' cartoons about a guy with an inconveniently long penis also creates an environment in which it's effectively impossible to tell people to knock it off, which means that the entire discourse is both smugly self-elevating and performatively non-politically correct. this means that as bourgeois cosmopolitanism shows its cracks, the interpretation is that foreigners are savages and need to get with the programme, because you're absolutely not allowed to criticise the reigning paradigm.

France has hit back at a new Russian law ordering French champagne makers to label their bottles as sparkling wine.

France has strict rules protecting its bubbly, meaning to be called champagne it must be from the French region that shares the name.

But under Russia's new law, only local producers can call their drinks "shampanskoye" - the Russian equivalent of champagne.

France's main champagne industry group called the law "unacceptable".

Under the new legislation - signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday - foreign producers of sparkling wine are ordered to describe their products as such on the back of the bottle.

French producers are still allowed to use the word champagne on the front of bottles, but the use of "shampanskoye" is allowed only on local produce.

this is deeply funny to me. Whoever said that Russia's main export is trolling is spot on

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran said on Sunday that Slovenian Ambassador Christina Radi has been summoned to the ministry to receive an official letter of protest in response to the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa’s “unacceptable and undiplomatic” move to take part in a virtual gathering arranged by the MKO terrorist group.

In the meeting with the Slovenian envoy, the Iranian foreign minister’s assistant and director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s department of the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe expressed the Islamic Republic’s “strong protest at the baseless allegations raised against Iran” by handing the letter of protest to the ambassador, it said.

The envoy was notified that the Slovenian premier’s participation in an event organized by a terrorist group that is abhorred by the great Iranian nation as well as his wrong and groundless remarks run counter to the diplomatic norms and to the spirit of the bilateral relations and are totally condemned, the statement added.

The ambassador of Slovenia has been also reminded that supporting a terrorist group is in violation of the UN Charter, the internationally-recognized principles, and the human rights values, and are not acceptable by any means.

The government of Slovenia has been asked to provide an explanation for the anti-Iranian move, the statement added, noting that the envoy has pledged that she would convey Tehran’s protest to Ljubljana.

Slovenian Prime Minister Jansa and former US state secretary Mike Pompeo were among speakers at a gathering of the MKO terrorist group, held in Berlin on Saturday.

well, the referendum ended about 2h ago, with 90% counted it's 86% against

this weekend was p. bad for turnout because a ton of people gently caress off to vacation right about now, which is probably why it was chosen specifically since at least 20% people need to vote against it for the referendum to count. turnout was still ~50% apparently so they can't ignore it lol

the country has 2 "levels" of health insurance, "basic" that everyone has access to (either through income tax, or state sponsored if unemployed), and extra which covers "optional" poo poo like free nasal spray when you get a bad cold. not at all needed but helps a lot in getting better faster/with less pain. generally not a problem but there's edge cases like getting hospitalized and then not having access to or having to pay for expensive pain killers or some poo poo, so the extra insurance is considered mandatory anyway, and it's only 35e/month

last week of january 2020, as the corona was about to start stirring poo poo, the centrist prime minister led govt fell apart with the excuse of "i can't work like this" because iirc the left and socdems demanded termination of extra health insurance and rolling it into baseline coverage and this was somehow going to break the entire state budget.

everyone expected new elections but somehow the far right managed to form a coalition with the other right, a center, and a retiree party.

they've been trying to hang onto power but at least they're not acomplishing much because they waste too much time whining about communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

these same jokers were in power before. they helped gently caress poo poo up royally in 2004-2008, and then again tried to govern briefly in the 2010s but it never worked out for more than a couple months because their leader is a psycho.

since then most people avoid them like a leaky nuclear reactor, but every now and then they still somehow manage to gently caress poo poo up for short periods of time. this one's lasted longer mainly because of corona lockdowns i think, not as many people on the street while there's a literal plague about. with people getting vaxxed tho, wind seems to be turning

it was born as an explicitly anti-system party whose values steered as close to socialistic as is possible without actually employing the S-word, starting with its territorial based organization, moving on to its emphasis on environmental preservation, democratic participation in local and national decisionmaking and grassroots organizing. this lasted about 1 year before it was entirely hijacked and turned into a national-level black box party, controlled centrally by an obscure IT firm from milan. this reorganization jettisoned everything (the territorial branches, the democratic participation, even the one or two good mayors it had managed to elect before) and turned the party into a nationally relevant channel for all anti-system sentiment, without ever actually taking any sort of anti-systemic action. notable difference is that now the party only exists at the national level, and fails miserably in local territorial elections

it became a sort of security buffer for italian bipolarism, and still is today. it is a right wing crutch, no more no less, and it is now hemorraging votes to other right wing parties, as designed. the 5 star movement is the reason i answer with a full throated laugh when people try to tell me that left politics must just be unpopular, and people dont want it, they just love rightwing poverty bullshit. like gently caress, they had to do this whole elaborate scheme to strangle a vaguely left grassroots thing in the crib, lmfao at electoral politics and anyone who thinks their results align with broad popular opinion
