I know too much about Zeihan because I used to slurp every single drop of diarrhea he called his book/talks when I was at the peak of being a lib

-his entire career was built on his analysis/predictions on the US shale revolution (which are still worth reading/useful but that's it). actually did a good job explaining the global energy economy and its geopolitics
-was one the few and earliest people talking about how the Bretton-Wood world order was in long-term crisis and how it was unwinding, especially with the incursion of Trump
-gay dude who loves hiking/green energy and lives in colorado, but loves natgas (iirc he thinks its totally gonna help us transition to stop climate change, how's the dryest summer on record looking there buddy?)
-thinks Corbyn was an anti-semite and called him the UK's "trump"
-uses every chance to smugly diss Bernie (and anyone else even mildly socialist) because he thinks they don't understand how the world really works
-loves to schmooze and take selfies with cool guys like Mitt Romney and other "respectable" republicans but tends to lean democrat I think
-wishes he could personify Bretton-Woods and the US navy so he can have gay sex with it
-has a huge hard-on on predicting the implosion of the Chinese economy because of birth-rates, "sketchy" banking, and loved posting about their "ghost" cities (which are now mostly full last time I checked lol)
-I can't remember his Russia takes but they were bad and lovely, like the above Mexico/AMLO one

I cannot emphasize enough how much Zeihan would giggle with glee if China's economy exploded and millions began starving/dying. if I ever had the desire to intentionally piss myself off I'd go read his blog/tweets

I think the Wikipedia article about Film censorship in China is an excellent example of how western media covers China in general. It would be hard to come up with a better illustration of that combination of actual facts, propaganda, laziness and ignorance.

After a history of Chinese film censorship you get a list of: "banned, partially banned, or unreleased films". Can't help but love the way that "unreleased" is tacked on there to imply that those things are equivalent. Remember how the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot was BANNED IN CHINA BECAUSE THE PRIMITIVE CHINESE ARE AFRAID OF GHOSTS? Of course you do since there were a million articles about it.

But sources close to China Film Co., the dominant state-owned film body that handles the import and release of all foreign movies in the country, tell THR that censorship wasn’t the determinative issue. “It’s been confirmed that Ghostbusters won’t be coming to China, because they think it’s not really that attractive to Chinese audiences,” says one Chinese executive. “Most of the Chinese audience didn’t see the first and second movies, so they don’t think there’s much market for it here.”

Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the list of "banned, partially banned, or unreleased films".

the censorship thing in china is insanely annoying and absolutely harms their native film industry because you either have the 龍標 or you are an indie film that can only show abroad or at private events like film festivals, and people decide their route before pre production / their whole career is pigeon holed into one of those routes. Even if you decide to do commercial film you still might get hosed if some geriatric censor doesn't like how you portray a historical event or whatever and now you wasted tens of millions USD worth of money on something no one will ever see. huge risk, even with pre-approval. Then you get lovely edits with storylines reshot or cut out in order to appease said geriatric censors, very harmful to the artform.

TV is obviously completely hosed

It’s from the general African railways Wiki page.

If anything I don’t have a clue where he got that map or how he put it together from because it both excludes many proposed railways and almost all already constructed railways but also lines I haven’t seen proposed elsewhere.

I guess the easy answer would be just to make something up that looks bad but even then a fair amount of the railways he put down just stop in capitals or regional center not actual resource collection points.
