I know the East African master plan is to have they the systems linked together including eventually a hook up into southern Africa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_African_Railway_Master_Plan That map really does seem completely made up or just showing railways mid-development. Here are existing railways as well. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 22:42 on Jun 23, 2021 |

I think the Wikipedia article about Film censorship in China is an excellent example of how western media covers China in general. It would be hard to come up with a better illustration of that combination of actual facts, propaganda, laziness and ignorance. After a history of Chinese film censorship you get a list of: "banned, partially banned, or unreleased films". Can't help but love the way that "unreleased" is tacked on there to imply that those things are equivalent. Remember how the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot was BANNED IN CHINA BECAUSE THE PRIMITIVE CHINESE ARE AFRAID OF GHOSTS? Of course you do since there were a million articles about it. But sources close to China Film Co., the dominant state-owned film body that handles the import and release of all foreign movies in the country, tell THR that censorship wasn’t the determinative issue. “It’s been confirmed that Ghostbusters won’t be coming to China, because they think it’s not really that attractive to Chinese audiences,” says one Chinese executive. “Most of the Chinese audience didn’t see the first and second movies, so they don’t think there’s much market for it here.” Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the list of "banned, partially banned, or unreleased films".

the censorship thing in china is insanely annoying and absolutely harms their native film industry because you either have the 龍標 or you are an indie film that can only show abroad or at private events like film festivals, and people decide their route before pre production / their whole career is pigeon holed into one of those routes. Even if you decide to do commercial film you still might get hosed if some geriatric censor doesn't like how you portray a historical event or whatever and now you wasted tens of millions USD worth of money on something no one will ever see. huge risk, even with pre-approval. Then you get lovely edits with storylines reshot or cut out in order to appease said geriatric censors, very harmful to the artform. TV is obviously completely hosed Antonymous has issued a correction as of 01:17 on Jun 24, 2021 |

If anything I don’t have a clue where he got that map or how he put it together from because it both excludes many proposed railways and almost all already constructed railways but also lines I haven’t seen proposed elsewhere. I guess the easy answer would be just to make something up that looks bad but even then a fair amount of the railways he put down just stop in capitals or regional center not actual resource collection points.
