Defenders can't just smash people and get the ball eventually, you have to reach the ball before any contact and then the ref still has to be in a good mood. If the keeper had gotten the ball before the other guy, the foul would have gone the other way.

Portugal got a penalty shot and the goalie got a yellow card, although my local (nonaligned) commentary team said that he did exactly what the goalkeeper has to do in a situation like these and if someone puts their head there, it's their decision.

Well yeah it was probably the right thing for the goalie to attempt but he was too late to the ball, and then punched and elbowed the poor guy so that's a pretty clear penalty. I'm not really following football outside of euro/world cups so it's been interesting to see how the video referees are integrated. Seems like it does slow down the game quite a bit occasionally but probably worth it to avoid some really contraversial calls mobby_6kl has a new favorite as of 10:34 on Jun 24, 2021 |
