In an interview with IndieWire last summer, original “Halloween” director John Carpenter (who scored this new movie) had this to say of the sequel: “The movie is something else. It’s fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred, big time. It’s huge. I’ve never seen anything like this: the kill count!”

I think there's a fuckton of kills in this movie and them showing so many in the trailer probably supports that idea.

This looks fun, but I’ve never seen the Halloween films (I know).

To prepare for this new one, should I just watch the original 1978 film and the 2018 film? Isn’t that how the official “story” is chronologically arranged now anyway?

It’s weird, I grew up with hard R sci-fi like Alien, The Thing, Terminator, Predator, Total Recall, etc. but I never got into the slasher genre series like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, etc. I do like Jaimie Lee Curtis a lot so I’ll give these Halloween movies a shot.

Yeah, watch '78 and '18 and you should be good to go. Between watching those and Kills, though, I'd recommend watching 2 and 3 as well—but only because 3 is good (but a different thing) and has a cute reference in the trailer, and there are echos of 2 present in '18, even if it's not canon to it.

Yeah, the first 2-3 are classics and super well regarded for the most part. The rest of the series is pretty dreck. Just watch The Kill Count for each one and you'll get all you need out of the series in an afternoon instead of wasting tons more time.

PS Kill Count rules and all their videos are loving AMAZING.

Oh yeah, we make jokes about trailers now, but old school trailers used to literally show scenes from the entire movie. The trailer for the first Godfather was basically still pictures showcasing plot points from the entire movie. Vito getting shot, Michael's revenge, Sonny's death, everything was there.

I can't wait for the trend of "show a hyperspeed three second version of the trailer before the actual trailer" to end. I think it has to do with auto playing ads on some sites?

Edit: Googled and saw that yeah, it's for random people with short attention spans to catch while scrolling through social media feeds.

If you can’t expect these dipshits to sit through a 2, 2.5 minute clip, how do you expect them to sit through a full-length feature film.

@Demon Semen - as stated, you absolutely need to see Halloween 1978 and 2018. Not just for the continuity, and not just because they're great films in their own right, but because of all the original cast members who are returning. For example:

Because the point is to get those who didn’t think they would be interested enough in the movie to watch the trailer.

Or others who don’t care for long trailers that “show every plot point in the movie!! :argh:

The intent is to fit in enough of a hook in five seconds to prevent you from hitting the skip button when it is presented as an ad prior to the video that you did click on.
