i wonder if they'll hit the temp that makes the runways shut down, like what happened in phoenix a few years ago though iirc that was something insane like 120F

At 12:53 AM, Seattle-Tacoma Airport is 81F and Portland International Airport is at 85F. There's just no overnight respite for what's coming tomorrow. Absolutely unreal. Monday is going to be so much worse than Sunday and a large portion of it is this lack of overnight cooling.

Platystemon posted:Yeah that approaches the physical limit of what’s possible anywhere on the planet. I dunno about physically possible. Desert rocks that are dark colored and in extremely insolated areas can act as pretty dang effective absorbers of heat. This report would probably earn a 0 reliability score from that WUnderground author, but a satellite measurement of The Flaming Mountains in China may have detected a ground temperature above 66*C. Platystemon posted:Yeah that approaches the physical limit of what’s possible anywhere on the planet. Physical is not the same as historically recorded. It certainly can go much hotter than that since we know that for several millions of years, Earth did not have any polar cap ice at all. We're very well on our way to that.

I assume they dumped a bunch of ice (from outside of their apartment) in the bucket in which case yeah that will work just fine. it would be better with a proper heat exchanger but that's not an option right now.
