It could be worse.

Not sure how, but it could be.
Cedar Downs was always a family competition. The horses move forward and back during the race, so we'd consider the winner the person whose horse ended up the furthest forward at the end of the ride.

I always find this to be a bit of a weird complaint because Disney and Universal are a tiny minority of parks with a $Disney Corp or $Comcast budget and a ride selection that is almost entirely indoor and/or low to the ground to make theming things relatively easy.

Theming is extremely expensive compared to rides themselves. How would you expect smaller chains or individual parks not attached to a media conglomerate megacorp to blow 8-9 digits on theming to promote an IP of some kind? Efteling, the largest park in the Benelux area(including the German ones close to the border) made €19m/y before covid. That's enough to build one Ratatouille every 11 years, and nothing else in the meantime. For comparison, they could rebuild both halves of Joris en de Draak into a RMC, separately, and still have enough money left over for a Raptor on a single year's budget if they decided to go on a coaster build spree.

Knott's Berry Farm exists, and while it got it's early theming in an extremely impractical way (physically relocating all the buildings of an abandoned ghost town out of the desert and moving them into the city) they've managed to thriftily put up decor pretty well. People on the west coast have a low opinion of Six Flags because Magic Mountain could be and USED to be so much nicer than it is, but Six Flags management got into a dick waving contest with Cedar Fair over who has the most rollercoasters and SFMM is now wildly different than the other parks due to trying to keep up with a park in the middle of Nowhere, Ohio.

Six Flags is one of the only major companies that invests in the "heartland" or whatever and would be applauded for that if they didn't keep leaving behind urban abandonment porn for their efforts.

Time Warner had an ownership stake in the 90s. They sold their shares to Premier Parks in 1998 who changed their own name to Six Flags Inc in 2000.

Harvey Weinstein was on their board of directors. :stare:

The theming of Grand Floridian is getting too mixed. You've got 1900 Park Fare and Grand Floridian Cafe, which fit the overall theme of the resort. Then you've got Enchanted Rose, themed to Beauty and the Beast (France). Now you've got Citricos being themed to Mary Poppins (London). Oh, and Narcoosee's, a New Orleans-themed spot.

Is there any other resort at WDW with such a mix?

Aren't they doing just that by tearing down existing stuff? I'm not familiar with DLR though so I don't quite follow.

Toontown isn’t part of the original park. It’s formerly backstage facilities that in the 70s/80s actually burned down after a firework landed there. Which is the reason why it’s usually closed for those.

Wasn’t Mary Poppins always at Grand Floridian? Her jolly holiday getup definitely fits with the vibe.

Grand Floridian is like, hi we're fancy and we're white. That's it theme. It always has been.

So apparently early entry for Disney resort guests starts Oct. 1, there will be late hours, but only if you’re staying at a deluxe resort and the dining plan is coming back but they haven’t announced a date yet.

DVC is included as the blog mentions Deluxe Villas.

I've got mixed feelings about the Deluxe only perk. Disney has definitely become more pay to play over the years, and I was fine with most of it as long as it was optional stuff like the DAH events, desert parties, stuff like that. I was a little EHH when they did Club Level guests get 90 day fastpasses and the option to buy more fast passes, but that was such an insignificant number of people it really wouldn't make much of a difference in the parks. This... even though I benefit from it as a DVC member... I'm not sure about.

I feel like Disney previously tried to keep a basic WDW trip in reach of most people, like the 5 day stay and play bundle they did a couple summers ago. Yeah you were at Allstars and you didn't get park hoppers, but you could get a family of 4 there for 5 days for like under 3 grand. It's getting more and more out of reach lately. There's a lot to it of course, but still, not sure how I feel about this.

I equate to the UEP perk for staying at a Universal Orlando premier resort. It’s great to have it automatically added to your stay.

I like it. I also probably sound like a bougie bitch for staying at deluxes for every trip in 2020/21/22 but it happens.

I’m sure the upside of covid for WDTC is that they could finally make changes for WDW DL that would have gone over hard in 2018-19 but now they can reformat right before the 50th, so we will continue to see more.

I don't think this is like UEP. The old Extra Magic Hours perk was previously available to anyone staying on property, or at partner hotels, as an incentive to stay on property. Now they're paring it back to Deluxe resorts only (for now).

This might be a test run until the EMH of old comes back. This perk might be also be worthless if it's only an extra 30 minutes or so. If it's a full 2 hours though, that would be significant
