I honestly had no idea marriage licenses work like that because mine's from Clark County, NV.

If it's in state, (at least some states) you have to get it from your local county but out of state will just issue one wherever. Seems easier than fighting it locally.

My parents got married in Las Vegas because at the time their state not only required a blood test but a marriage license was discretionary by the county official and theirs wouldn't issue one because my mom had a kid out of wedlock and the guy she was marrying wasn't the father. Their trip to Vegas turned out to be extremely BWM for the next 18 years because my birthday is almost exactly 9 months from the day after their anniversary.

Holy BWM as a society. We can't find the money to properly subsidize higher education for the people who are actually going to work and grow the economy. Any calls for doing so or something about student debt are drowned out as fiscally irresponsible and/or socialism. But a bunch of boomers who will never really get the chance to put the skills to use demand a free university education and get it without a fight while the media writes puff pieces about them.

Boomers are perfectly fine with socialist policies as long as they directly and explicitly benefit from it. The instant you try to apply that same thing to anyone else they're vehemently opposed because their tax dollars are subsidizing someone else and goddamn it when I was your age I paid for my college education by working part time why are you so entitled *collects a shitload of social security*

Ideally, yes, everyone could go to school for $10 a credit. But if they're only going to subsidize several hundred seats at state universities to that extent, the return on investment is going to be way, way higher by doing the same for the same number of recent high school graduates who can't afford it.

The way it works at the schools I'm aware of is the cheap or free old people are auditing the class rather than taking it for credit, which means they get bumped for credit students and don't do things like chemistry or physics labs.

Also, auditors at my school don’t turn in any graded work, don’t take exams, and can only participate in class discussions at the discretion of the instructor. Unless the lecture hall is completely full, they’re not using the same resources as a degree-earning student.

Nope, they get credits, and can even apply them to degrees.

Let's check in with our friends over at the Chronicle of the Horse Forums.
PPE = pre-purchase exam, including x-rays and drug testing). "Show drugs" = banamine and robaxin

quote:

Good Day,
We recently traveled to a rated show (Lexington, KY) to look at a horse that we are interested in buying (5yr old Oldenburg… big fella at 17.2). We know enough to be dangerous to ourselves but have access to trainers for advice. Everything went well with the tryout and my daughter fell in love with the horse.

The problems started after we decided that we wanted the horse. The seller (who is a broker) required a signed contract with a non-refundable deposit before the PPE could start (only refundable if horse failed drug test not including show drugs) . She stated that X-rays of the legs were done 3 months previously with no issues reported by the vet.

The vet conducted the PPE and all seemed well. Later that night the vet reviewed the previously done X-rays and noticed arthritis in the forward hoofs. This prompted additional X-rays the following day. At this time the vet recommended stopping the show drugs and conducting an additional PPE 5 days later. After the additional X-rays were viewed the arthritis was still there along with some bone chips in one hoof. X-ray of the spine also showed kissing spine.

Two days later the horse was moved to a local stable since the seller was leaving to follow the circuit. The horse was to be kept in the stall with daily hand walking (sellers decision). Three days later the second PPE was conducted along with another drug screening. No lameness was found but the horse was a bit “up” with a loose rear shoe. We decided to make an offer and an agreement was made. When the new contract was sent we requested that it be updated to include the second drug screening as part of the disqualifying factor to cancel the sale. The seller refused to add that to the contract as she said she had no control of the horse at the time. This was a stable that she picked and is supposedly a friend/acquaintance. She also said that we had to pay the stabling fee ($100 per day).

Why does this seem so off to me? We’re already invested into this horse (between exams and deposit $8Kish) and not sure how to go forward.
The normal practice is for sellers to ask for a refundable deposit prior to the exam to hold the horse, that can be refunded if the buyer decides to walk after. Horse brokers aren't so scrupulous though.

We get this a lot in the house buying thread. Earnest money/due diligence can be tens of thousands of $ in desirable HCOL places like the Bay Area or Seattle.

It would be great if boomers attempt to stay mentally and physically active in order to avoid cognitive decline and not become tv news zombies. It’d also be cool if they get to meet gen z rather than just have ‘kids these days’ caricatures of them.

But jfc essentially free college is a slap in the face to people who need that college coursework to start their adult lives and put food on their tables.
