K Rose in GTA San Andreas was my intro to country that wasn't Toby Keith shite. Absolutely fell in love with the melancholic vibes of his honky tonk country. And the Patsy Cline tune on their too. And then later on I found stuff like Townes Van Zandt & Steve Earle

It's an often fairly maligned type of music but when country hits with me it really hits. I always have a place for songs about tragedy and alcoholism and divorce and "My Son Calls Another Man Daddy"

My main exposure to country music has been via the fallout games, particularly New Vegas, which has some absolute bangers.

Definitely contact your union. My gut (IANAL or Union Rep) feeling from looking at stuff like this is that that meeting might be invalid if they didn't send an invite to your actual union rep (sometimes councils have a stock list of unions, but they are obligated to contact the employee's one iirc). This would mean they'd have to re-do it which should maybe give you a bit of extra time if nothing else? Anyway, I might be talking out of my rear end, but contact your union ASAP - they'll know what to do.

This only matters if they try at a later date to call this the beginning of the formal "consulation" on redundancy - as many (most?) employers will kick that off with a letter instead to avoid confrontation and ambiguity, and try whenever possible to do it in one-to-ones to try and divide and conquer, I'm not sure if the exact circumstances of the meeting are that important.

On the wider point - it will depend on the exact circumstances of the sale of the centre, and I assume that the transfer from public to private makes it even more complex, so thirding the "talk to your union rep ASAP" advice.

Apparently because they weren't selling well at the time, because nobody really knew how to make music with a solid body electric guitar and a cheap valve amp, so they were being sold off very cheap.

And she figured out that it's this, this is how you make music with them.

George Galloway's career for the last decade or so has been one long grift.
So if he seems 'woke' at any given time, it's because he's decided that's the tack he needs to take to keep the money and publicity coming in.

Whether he actually believes any of the poo poo he spouts is a question for him.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

Yeah I think he's just politically opportunist, certainly the CPGBML he pals around with are a bunch of freaks even if they think capitalism is bad.

Honestly I think he's just a bit mental, like the specific kind of brain rot that you get when you spend too much time around weirdo MLs and other extremely niche UK political groups that are basically cults, and you end up mixing things that might seem good on the face of it with insane reactionary poo poo.

Like he's just completely drifted out of the context of the rest of human political experience.

More specifically, he's a big ol' transphobe, and got weirdly flirty (in a political sense, not a romantic sense... that we know of) with Trump's crowd after he got elected.

The easiest way to "get" country music is to listen to Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" at the right moment. Whole genre makes sense if you time it right.

Like I'm not advocating voting Labour (I never have), if you like Kim leadbeater, or want to stop the tories sure. If your aim is to give starmer a kicking you can have as much of an effect voting for literally any other party, or not voting, without the need to get in the mud with George Galloway.

Losing because of Galloway will mean everyone prints pictures of him and Corbyn hanging out 15 years ago and blames it on the hard left and horseshoes and so on.

I mean they'll probably do that anyway but still. Starmer is poo poo enough to lose on his own lack of merit.

*press's view not mine, obviously most Muslims aren't bigots (& I heard those homophobes he's been campaigning with aren't even from the constituency)

**yeah the "left" vote for Galloway is gonna be confined to a few weirdo tankie nutjobs & possibly some protest votes from people to the left of Starmer but who are too young/uninformed to know about Galloway, but Starmer's still got to earn all 7 of those votes

The change in emissions regulations was an interesting one to find out about for me - getting the report on the house we bought last december saying it has an A rated boiler, double glazing, dishwasher & fridge freezer etc. Then after chucking hundreds of pounds into the buyer's report and admin fees, finding out that it will all go from A rating to E rating this year.

Same with the washer & dryer we bought when we moved in. Advertised as A rated, with a sticker hidden in the manual after purchase saying it'll be E rated next year lol.

I was looking through some of the Global Village Construction Set people's stuff yesterday for the first time in a while, they were one of the originators of the right to repair campaigns in the 00s under lifetime design.

That led me to find their recent 39 Pressing World Issues which, while I don't think it was written in order or all by one person, reads like a sudden on the spot conversion from fringe libertarian to Green Party to "hang on Marx and Fanon had some points." Or one of those very strange local candidate flyers you sometimes get.
