Do any of the teens give a poo poo about what's in the top 20 now? I'd have thought that it was entirely about what your friend group is sharing on social media with a handful of what the algorithm decides and whatever this month's designated US super hit is.

Even from a sensible leftist point of view this isn’t quite right. Sure, they’re figureheads of the system insomuch as they’re the main beneficiaries of it, but focusing on individuals let’s the system as a whole off. That said, I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to have some bogie men you can demonise - people find it a lot harder to get band at systems than people. Ultimately though if it wasn’t them guys it would be someone else - they’re far more a symptom than a cause IMO. Still, eat the rich

Contrary to what you might think if you read the express, it is not currently possible to poll the dead, and the survivors seem singularly bad at figuring out cause and effect.

I get what you're saying, systems vs individuals, but also worth remembering these individuals pay lobbyists to literally write the laws that perpetuate those systems of power, so it literally is also those specific people making things worse

The government, largely supported by the media which is almost exclusively staffed by people who support the government, successfully have managed to shift any blame onto the public at large rather than those making the decisions. Kieth supports this as well

The longer I look at things the more I become convinced that anyone saying "oh it is more complicated than that" about almost anything is a lying shithead. Things are devastatingly simple, it's just that we'd prefer things be complicated because it means we don't have to do anything.

It’s all about who you’re talking to I suppose. The big problem we have is that within the philosophy that underlies capitalism (liberalism), that’s a perfectly rational and therefore moral thing to do. Why wouldn’t you? It’s about destroying the assumptions of liberalism first and foremost. I’m not disagreeing with you at all by the way

To an extent I think that pointing out that that is an entirely reasonable thing to do helps to illustrate that the moral framework is also bad.

It's striking how Corbyn's suspension marked the turning point in both Starmer's popularity and the Labour Party's generally. Both trends started their decline around October 2020 and have drifted downwards ever since.

It corresponds with the point where it became apparent that the vaccine rollout really was working, and we'd have people done before too long. Not the government, sure, but people tend to correlate the two.

https://twitter.com/georgeeaton/status/1410580765637763074 This is surely Corbyn's biggest failing as Leader, that the PLP left aren't able to scrape up 40 votes for a challenge. They should have purged every loving one of the melts after the second anti-Corbyn leadership challenge.

Pitchfork did a 'top 200 albums of the 2010s' list which I'm slowly working my way through. I've discovered loads of great artists that way, and have learnt just to ignore stuff that I can't get into (all the dance music, all the Beyonce albums). Combined with a list of about 300 metal albums I've pieced together from goon recommendations in the metal thread, I'm doing pretty well with listening to new stuff.
