Another example of Fox News making a "news" headline out of some right wing yahoo's opinion. Who's Clay Travis? Some right wing radio host, apparently. They make a whole news article out of it, presumably so this headline can show up in a news aggregator (in this case Google news) and influence people.

He's a semi-big name because he, along with Buck Sexton, took over Rush's radio program on EIB.

Speaking of Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, with July 4th coming up this weekend the very last bit of their show was that old right wing chestnut, "Removing statues of people is erasing history" with a little bit of "Everyone who supported slavery was a Democrat so they're actually trying to hide that they supported it."

Also the station that I found (I was out of town) didn't play Hannity at 3 PM, they instead played Charlie Kirk. Honestly I didn't even know he had a radio show, I remember him being made fun of with a ton of the TPUSA meme parodies, and then he went to a college campus wearing a diaper to own the libs, so I assumed he was just laughed off the face of the planet, finding out he has a radio show is confusing and disturbing to me.

Anyway I didn't catch much of him, he had some lawyer on to talk about the indictment against the Trump Foundation who of course said "I read it and my immediate thought was 'This is a complete witch hunt,' it's a clear example of the left criminally abusing their power to punish people they don't like."

Clay Travis got famous for being a non-barstool sports blogger who wasn't afraid to tell it like it is (be racist). Hilariously though he worked for Deadspin for a few months before getting big.

That's old enough.

To be fair, for the time it was a pretty decent show and as a kid I loved Bill Cosby. Showing a black family in a positive light was a net positive I think, especially for the times. Too bad it all had to be brought to us by a serial rapist.

His conviction was annulled because the original prosecutor hosed up and gave him a no-prosecution deal denying him is 5th amendment right not to incriminate himself. Which he then did, because he's a rapist.

No women lied about his assaults, he admitted to the behavior, it's just that legally that information shouldn't have been used to convict him.

Yeah, and Trump was impeached but acquitted. Right wing media plastered that as Trump being innocent and impeachment never happened. Your mention of abortions reminded me that during the "We must protect our racist statues!" rant, Clay and Travis were like "You can't judge someone from 200 years ago using modern morality standards, that's absurd! And it's going to come back around on the left, in 50 or 60 years they're going to be judged as complete monsters for supporting abortion, people are going to be like 'Wow how could such horrible people ever have been praised?'"

Never mind that there were people during the time of the founding fathers who were like "Slavery is completely hosed up and should be abolished," or that Columbus was especially monstrous for the time and seen as uniquely evil even by people who were fine with slavery and exploitation of indigenous people. There's just no way they could have known that being racist was bad, quit judging them!

It was also great to hear "As a white person, I don't care about this, therefore nobody could possibly care about it" as they mentioned the shooting over the removal of a Juan de Oñate statue and were like "Who even knows who this guy is? How could you possibly get so mad about it that you shoot someone over it?"

I saw this complaint recently that said something like "They just want us to stop celebrating anyone from the South".

The upshot of that is no. There are plenty of Southern heroes people think should be celebrated. It is simply that they aren't the secessionists and slavers that have been getting statues all the time.

Yeah, it didn't go too well for them

quote:

"They started engaging with citizens of Philadelphia, who were none too happy about what they were saying. These males felt threatened, and, at one point, somebody in their crowd threw a type of smoke bomb to cover their retreat, and they literally ran away from the people of Philadelphia," said Philadelphia Police Officer Michael Crum.

Nah, this kind of performative, forced nationalism is genuinely unusual in your average first world country.
Singing the national anthem off the cuff in a goddamn supermarket would make the average person look like a complete lunatic in any country in the EU, for example.
You really can't realistically deny that the US has, and has had for a very long time, a weird nationalistic cult that is very out of line with it's allied countries.

I suppose but it's getting really loving out of hand since Obama got elected and the rise of Trump. I'm pretty old so I (vaguely) remember the 1976 Bicentennial stuff and some of the Born In The USA Reagan poo poo but after that only 9/11 really ratcheted it up like this. And with 9/11, it kind of felt fairly appropriate given the shock of being so directly and graphically attacked; this time with LOTS of footage. At least for a while. I don't recall all this giant flag poo poo being so ubiquitous in the 80's and 90's for the most part though and am too young to remember the Red Menace and Vietnam.

This weekend and the July 4th stuff is, to me, the only time it really seems appropriate to plaster yourself in red white and blue everything so aggressively and act so jingoistic. The rest of the time, it just comes off as showing off and...rather mean spirited and hostile. And, to me, it's kind of like displaying a Christmas tree, a nativity and lights all year to prove how much you love Jesus.

...

But getting back to talk radio: who's King poo poo now that Limbaugh croaked? Hannity I guess? I don't really recognize any of the people I'm hearing when I punish myself by listening to any of it and on my local station it seems they've really seemed to double down and crank up the crazy poo poo but none of it feels much like it's landing or finding it's way into the national discourse other than maybe CRT. That and a lot of poo poo about how nobody wants to work since they got all that free money/UEI and lazy millenial crap.

Is there a rising RWM star I'm not aware of? Limbaugh really left a (big fat) void in this part of the GOP gameplan.
