There's a comic which I tried to find (though I didn't try too hard) where it's a "Choose your character" screen in a video game and it's like ten white dudes and the caption says "All is well," the second panel has one brown character and the caption says "Being political," and the last has two brown characters and the caption says "White genocide" which is pretty spot on for what those people actually believe.

Oh I'm not even saying "America is the worst country ever" or anything, in general I'm mostly happy to live in this country outside of how completely hosed our health care system is. In general, America is better than a lot of other countries one can be born in, and it does seem like we're occasionally capable of making progress towards things getting better (even if the last four years have been pretty depressing). This is however very different from being proud of America or proud to be American.

And I guess honestly I might be reading it in a more positive way than the truth behind it, like some people might have said no because "How can I be proud of America with those commie liberal Dems stealing elections and trying to destroy our way of life?"

The current Cap storyline, The United States of Captain America, involves Steve Rogers losing faith in America and what it stands for and what Captain America is supposed to represent, so he goes on a soul-searching road trip across the US with Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, and John Walker (all of whom have also been Cap at one point or another, so they know what he's going through) and along the way the run into a bunch of local street-level wannabe Captain Americas of all walks of life who are all trying to do some good in their communities because they were inspired by Steve's heroism and it renews his faith in America and the American people.

Chuds have been brain-ripping mad about this storyline for months now because it features a Gay Captain America, a Black Woman Captain America, an Asian American and Pacific Islander Captain America, and a Native American Captain America and it's finally wormed its way into the mainstream it seems.

People will go back to the history, and I say, “Yeah, and there were anti-Semitic structures in Europe, and in the U.S., there were anti-Catholic structures, and no one would talk about them today, because they’re not existing anymore.” If something existed in the past, there are at least a couple of possibilities: No. 1, it could still exist. Right. The question with school segregation is, again, how much is that is down to an individual decision about where to live. It’s not people having their windows broken and kept out of white areas. I think that I would see this as individual choices about where to live, and, yes, there is, I’m sure, white avoidance of diverse areas and we know that exists, but this is a sort of ethnic preference. It’s not clear to me that that is the same as, you know, “separate but equal.”
