The last goddamn sentence of the post I quoted was talking about not being hosed up on the job, and people are continually making that point, because there is zero justification for pre employment drug screens as they currently exist, beyond the usual purpose of adding a hurdle.

Weird how salaried positions in the same companies rarely require one but hourly does.

Also btw I've been drug tested a bunch, most recently was to do my job that I'm already doing and also to receive medication that I was already taking for almost two decades. loving work and my specialist doctor both think I need to justify myself. It's embarrassing.

This whole discussion is dumb because it's Memento's company (company in their story?) 's fault. Why would you just not start with the useless drug test if you're going to give one?

It's on them for training someone for a week without bothering to ask for a drug test, which will not give you any info actually relevant to job performance.

The drug testing is a red herring, is the key thing. It could have been "employee X was hired for a job as a driver, given training for a week and then quit because they didn't have a drivers license". Yes its the company's "fault" for getting suckered, but also they're obviously gonna tell everyone not to hire the guy that scammed them lol

Lol yeah that's a good point because here in AU usually drug test for pre-employment is done as part of fit-for-work medical which is the insurance hurdle. Memento works for some kinda cooked employer by the sound of it.

Let's get straight to the raise the bridge part and instead propose new weird dumb systems. Let's replace drug tests with field sobriety tests where you have a baseline conversation like blade runner, then play Tetris for 5 minutes. AIs exist to monitor the results for insober deviations, why not done?

More like know your goddamn tolerance and go for the high score!

I used to work in a small warehouse, where I was the only forklift operator. Small as in, 4 full time employees in the entire warehouse. Company didn't drug test either. I'd have an edible for breakfast and spend my entire morning driving that drat forklift around. Ate another at lunch (or used a dab pen) and went about doing all my shipping. Not those bullshit 10mg edibles either, I made banana bread at home that would frequently be 200mg+ per slice. Two years of that job, no accidents, no falls, only hosed up pallets when ordered to force something in or out.

Then I went to work on a weed farm and just loving lol at OSHA anything actually being reported at a weed farm.

Synthetics come in a 2-3oz flask style container, so you can strap them inside your thigh with an ACE bandage with a little hand warmer heat pack and never be noticed.

I've been smoking regularly for 15 years, I don't get giggles and munchies anymore. It's like the gbs thread says, a weed vape is an inhaler for dealing with bullshit.

Also I gave full notice at exactly the right time to either gently caress him out of a family holiday or shut down his business for 4 out of 7 days.

I tried to get a job with BMW about ten years ago and after two weeks of acing technical interviews they told me I was going to have to do a hair test. I smoke weed in the evenings so I tried all the fancy shampoos and washing your hair with apple cider vinegar but ultimately was told weeks later after taking the test that they were not going to hire me. They didn't specifically tell me that it was a hit for weed though because in California having a medical marijuana card was protected from hiring for non government jobs. This was before recreational weed was legal. Either way I'm now blacklisted for working at BMW which sucks since I'm a BMW specialist. I hope federal legalization in the US happens so this kind of poo poo stops. It's ridiculous to be denied work for using a legal recreational substance in your free time. There also needs to be a better testing method that can differentiate between a person with THC in their system and a person who is actively intoxicated.
