I legitimately enjoy r/fountainpens. It's always so helpful and positive. Everyone just giving help and kudos. Posts where someone posts something they've written in a new ink, it looks wonderful, their writing is beautiful, photography shows off the sheen, etc. And then in the comments there's people talking about how great the ink/pen/paper is, and their experience, even if it's pricey or cheap. Or even better is when they don't like it but acknowledge personal tastes and hope the poster is loving it because it seems lovely but they don't. It is the best subreddit imo.

The Tinder sub is great, because you get to watch people post themselves being obnoxious and sabotaging a chance of a happy future for a handful of dweebs to press an up arrow on the internet.

Those subreddits tend to be pretty nice.

I guess I'm too old to navigate reddit. Last time I went there to just check it out I wanted to browse their forums and couldn't find a way to do that. Like, no categorization or anything. If I google something random and there is a reddit thread about it I'll look (and I hate the layout/functioning) but I never google things specifically for reddit which is what my friend told me to do to "browse" reddit.

You probably just hate bad site design.

Yeah I guess I just didn't want to tolerate it. I'd have to "learn" how to use it since it isn't... I can't think of the word, innovative. It'd take effort and I have less patience now. So it makes me think, "well that's the future since reddit is so popular so I must be the one wrong here." I'm glad people in here think the same.

I have a Reddit account that mirrors some of the threads that I follow here. Hobby subreddits are pretty good, too, and tend to draw younger-but-serious or older, established professionals in the field (I got out of school 20 years ago but some of the students’ posts or the occasional professors who post are usually pretty upfront and factual). The r/Malware*** are fascinating personally to me, because seeing how the evolution of malware follows rules in genetics/mol.bio is impossible in most other communities! I only use the app, though…the site layout sucks balls on any desktop

They enjoy browsing the various subreddits related to malware ("r/Malware***", presumably the *** is a wildcard because there's a bunch of them that all start with malware), because they're able to follow the evolution of malware and through it observe that it follows similar evolutionary rules that are present in genetics and molecular biology. ...which is still a tad confusing, as you'd think, y'know, virology would be a much more apt comparison. But I know nothing about computer viruses nor genetics/molecular biology/virology so.

One of the most prolific viruses ever, Stuxnet, would infect a computer and then check whether that computer ran software used by the Iranian government. If not, the virus went dormant. If yes, it would scan for any centrifuges networked to the computer, and make them self-destruct.

I'm sure there's an arms race for countermeasures and poo poo and less effective poo poo gets weeded out and such I did my undergrad in genetics at Ole Miss and graduated medical school in Memphis in 2001. A long article on Stuxnet reminded me of stuff we were doing with HIV and some bacterial infections that were acting virus-like after small mutations allowed them to change and become resistant to not just antibiotics but bleach as well. The “evasion” and “dormancy” phases of some primo protein-viruses mirror the computer anti-viruses vs. regular computer viruses and worms. Malware (*** is a wildcard because I follow 3 subreddits with similar themes) follows “real life” evolutionary patterns the same way epidemics happen. I do not follow any CS subs, same as not following some toxic communities’ threads on this forum. I do apologize for not more clearly explaining why some subreddits are fine whereas some are horrible. Edit: the two preceding posts above are dead-on point.

It’s really stupid because what does it affect if you have a lot of sex instead of whackin’ your junk? It’s more fun but for a male (me) there’s nothing really physically different between the two (not including the intimacy that makes sex emotionally more healthy). Before my divorce my wife and I had sex at least twice a day, seven days a week (not always PiV, but it slowed some once my son got old enough to get out of bed and open our door!). I’m not trying to brag, I’m trying to imagine the physical difference (for men) between constantly loving and jerkin’ your business four times a day. Does this turd have a theory addressing this? I would really like to see the “methods” in that paper! Also, my doctor straight up told me to not gently caress or masturbate for a week before my physical because I always had protein in my urine samples and I was on anti-psychotics that cause weight/metabolism trouble and he thought I was trending toward type 2 diabetes. Guess the protein source [sub](again, this was twenty five years ago and I’ve not had any type of physical affection in three years so I’m passing the urine tests now) (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)
