79% of the people currently in hospital are unvaccinated. Thanks Scomo. More significantly, nobody who is fully vaccinated has been hospitalised other than the aged care residents who were hospitalised purely as a precaution.

It's worth pointing out that: On 29/06/20, Melbourne was getting 71 new cases a day. by 30/07/20, Melbourne was getting 694 new cases a day. If you guys don't lockdown hard, you can expect to be absolutely hosed in a months time. e: especially considering this variant is more infectious than the one from last year. But NSW won't do that because of the gold standard. tithin fucked around with this message at 03:21 on Jul 10, 2021 |

NSW residents have no say in the extent of the lockdown, unfortunately. One thing is certain, it will inevitably leak out of Sydney and into regional NSW. Probably to other states as well.

Checked out some houses in Ballarat today since we can no longer afford Melbourne. Its a pretty nice town compared to the shithole qld regional towns I’m used to.

I like Ballarat, despite it being my hometown and having all those awkward memories. I'd move back there if there was work in my field. The 3 or 4 degree drop from Melbourne seems like more these days, I'm getting old

Victoria needs to close its border with NSW right now. This lockdown might slow down the spread of Delta, but eventually it's going to become the dominant strain in the other states and the longer they can put that off, the better.

One death, who acquired it in the household. Over 50 of the new cases acquired it from close family members/friends. Have we heard yet how many close contacts are in isolation or does Chant give that number?

Chant said she thinks the 90 year old who died was unvaccinated but will confirm. Most people are catching it within the household or within family groups. And absolutely the borders need to be slammed shut. We can't contain this to Sydney forever but we need to slow it down as much as possible.

I can't speak for other boomers, but many of us are at least partly vaccinated. The people I worry for are those too young to be eligible for vaccination yet. While the current advice will possibly change to "everyone get AZ ASAP regardless of age", implementing that would take months.
