I’m starting to wonder if what I had might’ve been electrolyte imbalance caused by dehydration. Before I started having symptoms yesterday I spent the whole afternoon outside in hot muggy weather putting together a new power saw and sweating like a motherfucker. I don’t know if chills line up with that though. Are major chills a symptom of electrolyte imbalance? It also may not explain why my head and joints still ache a little. I. M. I made the mistake of going to a birthday party yesterday because my friend is moving away Everyone went to an arcade and a hibachi dinner afterwards. One of my friends clearly has long covid because he is trying to hide a persistent shallow cough every few minutes and pretending like no one can see it. There were zillions of people all playing games and bowling and poo poo and everywhere people were hacking, even employees surrounded by other employees. The restaurant was packed and also had people coughing all over each other. Then I look at the testing rate and it's dropped super low and I realize this poo poo is still everywhere just as much as it was 6 months ago What a loving horrible mistake lol Jesus christ god drat

At an 80% vaccination rate, Vermont lifted all restrictions the first week of June. For most of the month I was an outlier wearing mine indoors. But for the last two weeks, I notice when I stop at my local grocery (once or twice a a week), I'm seeing an increasing number of people wearing masks. Today there were like five.

The weirdest thing was seeing my friend constantly trying to hide these deep, small coughs. He sounded like the dog on Seinfeld that had a cough and Kramer was taking it’s medicine when it did come out. He’d kind of bullfrog it up a bit every five minutes and try to keep it in. He’s been like this for maybe 8 or 9 months. He says he got vaccinated but I think he’s lying, not that it would help.

Snowglobe of Doom posted:with at least one dose, I wondering about that, but I was on mobile and Vermont and the news media made it hard to find the one‐shot information. Honestly, with the protection (not) demonstrated against Delta by a single shot of the Pfizer vaccine in Britain, it would be more honest to round these half‐vaccinated folks down to unvaccinated rather than up to vaccinated. One could say “they have a foot in the door and it may be easier to get them to show up for the second shot”, but let’s not count chicks before they’re hatched. While we’re at it, we’ve got to drop some of the superlatives we’ve been using with the mRNA vaccines. They are no longer “extraordinarily” good versus Delta. They are moderately good. They are are better than the flu and tuberculosis vaccines, about level with the measles and rubella vaccines, and worse than the measles, chickenpox, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, polio, and smallpox vaccines.

Even more amazing is someone finally coming to terms with reality and going to level 4 restrictions. They were ready to almost fully open things up just a day before with only 30% of the country with a single shot. Theyre only just now opening it up to 55+ age group to register and they ran out of reservations before the day was out. Demand is there but no supply.

I got the J&J back in April and live in southern Florida. I want to get an mRNA vaccine so terribly bad. I saw someone on another discussion forum mention they got both J&J and two doses of Pfizer because, why not. Is that a thing people are actually doing? I never find anything about J&J efficacy against variants in the latest research publications or news updates - it's like they only track AZ & the two mRNA vaccines, which feels kinda weird? Feeling vibes of "well anyone who got that fuckin' thing J&J poo poo out isn't around to worry about Delta, so.." --- Edit: ok, new data on J&J vs Delta is in preprint as of last week, so I'll share this good news about the J&J vaccine from an n=8 sample-sized study that hasn't been scrutinized yet. TL;DR on it is they claim to see efficacy against covid-19 continue to improve over time, and indications are that the J&J vaccine is more effective against Delta than it was the original variant of the virus. Apparently, J&J ages like fine wine. "Demonstrated strong neutralizing antibody activity against the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant A preprint submitted by the Company today to bioRxiv contains a new analysis from blood samples obtained from a subset of participants (n=8) in the Phase 3 ENSEMBLE study. These data showed that the Johnson & Johnson single-shot COVID-19 vaccine elicited neutralizing antibody activity against the Delta variant at an even higher level than what was recently observed for the Beta (B.1.351) variant in South Africa where high efficacy against severe/critical disease was demonstrated. In the ENSEMBLE trial, Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine was 85 percent effective against severe/critical disease and demonstrated protection against hospitalization and death. The vaccine was consistently effective across all regions studied globally, including in South Africa and Brazil, where there was a high prevalence of rapidly emerging Beta and Zeta (P.2) variants during the study period. Immune responses persisted through at least eight months Data submitted by Dan Barouch, M.D., Ph.D., of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center et al., to bioRxiv from a sub-study of the Johnson & Johnson Phase 1/2a COVID-19 vaccine study (n=20) showed that humoral and cellular immune responses generated by the Johnson & Johnson single-shot COVID-19 vaccine lasted through at least eight months, the latest timepoint recorded in the study thus far. Data showed that T-cell responses – including CD8+ T-cells that seek out and destroy infected cells – persisted over the eight-month timeframe examined. A single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine generated neutralizing antibodies against a range of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern, which increased over time (the average neutralizing titer at eight months exceeded that average at 29 days), including against the increasingly prevalent and more transmissible Delta (B.1.617.2) variant, the partially neutralization-resistant Beta (B.1.351), the Gamma (P.1) variants and others, including the Alpha (B.1.1.7), Epsilon (B.1.429), Kappa (B.1.617.1) and D614G variants, as well as the original SARS-CoV-2 strain (WA1/2020)." Edit 2: SNEAKY BASTARDS ok, so a casual glance through implies J&J's vaccine performs better against Delta than any other variant. However, a more careful parsing reveals that J&J is a bit less effective against Delta than it was against the original virus, but it does better against variant Delta than it does against variant Beta (Beta seems to be the variant that J&J and the mRNA commonly do worst against?)
