The UK doesn't care about crap, and they left it in the rest of the episodes, so I have to believe it was for run time.

I think Channel 4 used to show it in a 25 minute slot, they might have needed to trim a minute. The standard advert breaks might even be too short for a 30 minute slot, 8 minutes is loads.
