Its questionable that they are "Rich", given that most of these guys cannot liquidate their Crypto into actual fiat currency (which is the only way Crypto has actual value) and which is why this is also likely a scam, because only scam artists appeal to their wealth to sell a product. Yeah, sorry, I should have clarified; there were absolutely tubas and other wind instruments going into the shredder. From what I've been told, there was a full ensemble's worth of instruments and gear at BAF that deploying bands would fall in on so they didn't have to bring their own, and when it looked like things were winding down, most of it ended up getting trashed. then we kept going there for like 7 more years except now we had to bring all our own poo poo lol From a logistics standpoint I get it; bands are MTOE'd only so many instruments, and there's no point in shipping stuff home that's both an overage and is past its Army lifecycle date anyway. So you bring home what you can use - 10th Mountain nabbed all the heavy-duty folding music stands and the modular Wenger practice rooms, I think 101st grabbed some microphones as they finished up closing things down - shop out whatever you can to the ANA band, and then the rest gets shredded, because why send it stateside to put it up on the GSA auction site when you'll only make back a fraction of what it cost to ship? But when I think about the story a friend of mine who had been in 101st told me, about giving a euphonium to one of the ANA guys, and how loving happy that guy was to have it, the whole thing starts to feel like the bit in The Grapes of Wrath about the oranges being sprayed with kerosene. Such an obscene waste.
