I was visiting cousins in France and went with the one about my age (20 or so at the time). he and his father are fiends for Volkswagens, so we went to pick one up someone offered him for free.

it turned out to be basically a shell, so we dragged it into his trailer (pulled by a tiny Peugot) and hauled it down to the scrapyard.

we were sitting in the front seat of the Peugot watching the guy with the claw grab the Beetle when the car shook and I realized that the VW was still loving attached to the trailer.

I barely spoke any French and he spoke no English, but when I looked at him and said "holy poo poo, it's still attached," he grasped my meaning and jumped out to whistle for the guy to stop.

alas, this was the closest I came to getting picked up in France.

Also, it's really stupid dangerous. Don't do it. Even though it's incredibly fun. You mess up, you get bucked off, you hit your head on a post and now you're dead. You step off and run over your foot. Now your foot is broken. You knock over skids stacked 4 high and you're crushed to death and no-one finds your corpse until morning.

Still, it is really fun doing skater tricks with pallet jacks. It should be some kind of X-Games event or something.

Yeah, speaking just for myself: I was coxswain-qualified in the Navy and have piloted small craft through some gnarly poo poo, and I watched through that thinking just how much I would not want to do that unless I knew the exact location of every single rock on that river by heart.

That's a very shallow-draft boat so it can pass over a lot of stuff especially if the water level is high (which it looks like it is atm) but the thing about that is that the chop hides the rocks, and the more chop the more you get pushed off course without a deeper keel to stabilize you - but then of course you risk hitting rock more.

When the spray completely covered the glass for a few seconds I thought for sure he was going to hit something.
