Big burgs need love too, but most of them aren't good and just fetishize the meat without cooking it well (like all American things). The thickest a burgor should be is probably 3/4 of an inch. If you don't overmix your ground beef you can get a patty that's basically held together by its crust with loads of fat inside that absolutely melts. It's the ideal grilled burger since without a flat cooking surface it's harder to get a good crust, so you've got time to render the interior fat of a thick boy. I definitely prefer smashed patties and think they're way easier/faster to cook, but thick hammies can be very good.

This is wisdom.

(I think bacon is fine though and I love a burg with bacon, goat cheese, and some balsamic fig action going on top)

I'm not into big fat patties that are just pure minced beef unless it some flash steakhouse job but then I just want a steak. I do like fat fish and chip shop rissole mix patties, that poo poo is good

Bacon is a fine burger topping when used in moderation.

The “bacon slider” I once ordered that had bits of bacon mixed into the patty remains the worst burger I’ve ever had. The summer camp cafeteria line burgers come close, but at least I could smother those with Doritos.

HA! HA! NICE! WHAT A TOOL!
I think the appeal of thick steakhouse burgers is mostly the ocean of cheese they put on top + grilled onions. I can't say I hate them.

the bad bacon is when it's mixed into the patty

Oh yeah, bacon inside the patty is like universally awful. Never ever good.

I think my favorite use of non-smash burgers is on a patty melt. Some niceish place I went to once gave me this thick patty melt on Texas toast with an absolute pile of sweet onions and melty cheese. It's the burger high I've been chasing for a decade

I'll fight you to the death

e: Yeah I'll agree that I'd rather have it on top than in the patty, but honestly get it out of my poo poo. If I want bacon I'll eat bacon, or a BLT, or any other form where it's not fighting the beautiful brown crispy crust of a good boorge.

Crowd Pleaser at Charlie's BBQ. Cheese was closer to melting than it looks it went pretty much as soon as I got into the burger. Really good crust on the smash patties and the veggies both the fried onion and the not visible in the photo fresh tomato, lettuce and pickles were on point.

Looked at the burg (well sandwich technically for Americans) of the month, the WAP (Wet rear end Pork) for the slogan alone ("There's boars in this house") but decided a full pound of pulled pork plus bacon, plus dill pickle chips, plus potato chips and some coleslaw was too much even for my fat rear end.

I saw someone else order it and it was certainly living up to it's name. It was fat as gently caress and dripping meat juices and bbq sauce and dressing everywhere. It was bigger than a loving house brick.

I started a sandwich blog a few months back and decided I wanted to compare Beyond Burger vs Impossible Burger since I'd only had a bite of each in restaurants. Because I had both "meats" at home I used one patty of each to copycat the Big Mac.

Spoiler: It tasted a lot like a Big Mac.

I actually really like both Beyond and Impossible. I keep blocks of both in the freezer at all times.

Beyond tastes great, but is pretty obviously not beef. Impossible though, unless I’m specifically paying attention, for a lot of applications it passes easily for beef.

That's how I felt. Beyond tastes like a pre-prepared veggie patty like a Boca Burger or something similar. But the Impossible could actually fool people who aren't paying attention if it's cooked properly and prepared like a fast food burger.
