poo poo POST MALONE posted:A Netflix special taught me that the tech used for seismic imaging is founded on the same principles as autotune. I mean seismic stuff using autotune sort of makes sense. When they were developing underwater radar to locate submarines, they had to specially construct the waveform of the sound emitted since if you just did a basic high-to-low waveform, due to doppler shift it would be impossible to figure out how far away something was. They ended up making something that was mathematically without a pattern in order to ensure the sonar response decoding could always be accurate, no matter how fast the ship or object the waves bounced off of moved.

Some details have been released about the LAPD bomb squad incident from a couple of weeks ago. This https://twitter.com/KateCagle/status/1417187229059862532?s=20 seems like a bad idea.

Recently I, my brother, and my nephew took an old horse trailer to the scrap yard. The crank didn't work, so we had to use a wheeled jack to get it off the hitch of the truck. This took about ten minutes, and the whole time the dude in the giant crane thing just watched us loving around like the idiots we are, with a totally blank expression. When we finally detached the trailer, he just used his massive God-Claw to grab the trailer and flung it through the air onto the giant scrap pile. I felt small, insignificant, pointless.

RoastBeef posted:BREAKING: Moore says the amount of explosives likely exceeded the weight rated for the TCV, according to the preliminary investigation. Essentially, the bomb squad guessed the weight based on appearance but did not actually weigh the devices before detonating the #lapdblast TLAR = That Looks About Right. Maybe not a good practice for explosives.
