I woke up early to the sound of thunder and lightning. I just sat on the porch with my dog wrapped up in a blanket on my lap. I wanted to grab a picture, but that would have meant disturbing the dog. NOT an option.

For reference, here's a picture of him on drugs. His name is Toby.

My boy Henry is afraid of thunder, and fireworks and pretty much any unexpected loudness, and we have thunder forecast in the next few days : ohno:. We have a soothing scent diffuser, so hopefully that will help him to not get too upset.
He used to try to run away from home when fireworks scared him, so that was very stressful.
He did go for a long walk in the woods yesterday, with many paddles to cool off, so that was pretty blessed.

Dogs on drugs are always funny. When my pit came to work with me after getting snipped he spent the day making the most pathetic whining noises and then collapsing to the floor and snoring for hours. Rinse and repeat for the rest of the day.

And this one after getting porcupine quills removed. I think she has "drug seeking behavior" in her file.

Depending on weight, you can give him a half or whole benedryl when you're expecting loud noises over a period of time, like July 4.

This one's good too. My sister keeps trying to adopt him from me because he's so sweet with my nephew.

I always feel bad for laughing because sometimes they seem so confused and out of sorts, but then again based on how much I love getting high maybe they're thinking crazy dog thoughts and digging it.

I love this guy's little talk bark.

i think this is one reason people find cats unsettling and emotionless. dogs can actually pull facial expressions, cats pretty much just hiss and make love eyes when it comes to face emotions and everything else is communicated through body language

Okay but love eyes are the best.

Dogs can learn and mimic human body language. Cats can't.

My current two adopted boys are the most social cats I've ever had and their faces definitely show a wide range of emotions. I've also had cats that were more distant and less easy to read. My two idiots are almost dog-like in their behaviour and I love them to bits. :kimchi:

i mean you can read a cat's face if you know how but they aren't doing it for you like a dog is. when i do something that annoys my cat she just stares at me with her mouth open like she can't believe that i ever could have done such a thing. i don't know exactly what it means but i get the idea.

My black cat is the most loving dorky little dude but is incapable of changing his facial expression from anything beside "deer in headlights" and "sleepy smile". He's very expressive of his emotions just uh not with his face.

There was a GHOST here.
It's gone now.
Cats communicate with you vocally. They only use meows for you and their mothers, and attentive cat owners are able to identify what their cats need by their specific meows.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7765146/

Your cat has developed an entire language to communicate with you, specifically. We're just bad listeners.

I remember reading somewhere that cats are like laser focused on where/how they're going to land. So, they flip their tail, and their back legs to always land on a certain spot. Cats are the best are trigonometry, probably. Their body is extremely contorted ... but they have a plan
