Currently I don't see how you could fit e-sports into the Olympics because of it's very nature - which game (or games) would be in? You're more likely to see chess in the Olympics than e-sports unless there is a structural change in competitive gaming.

Running no point.

They need to cut down the number of swimming events, it's ridiculous. Like if you had for each track event the 400m forwards, backwards, forwards both legs together, forwards slightly less efficiently.

Though having said that I'd like to watch the 400m backwards sprint.

Me too. I saw a thing on YouTube about speed climbing(?) and it was bonkers.
It looked just like they were running up the wall. There was a guy who was high level in normal climbing, and he had a try against the specialists and he was 3-4 times slower.
I'm just assuming it's this too btw

The transition of rock climbing itself from necessity to posh boy Alpine Club event to jet set recreation to working class revival is pretty interesting, and I've seen it come up a few times ITT in more detail than I could tell it, but there's some of the earlier bit of it here that doesn't include the indoor revival.

You'd need to have esports specifically designed and developed for the Olympics and owned by the IOC. Every four years a new version is pushed out (same as you get incremental rule/regulation changes in other sports) and learned by all the esport teams who want to compete.

It'd be an absolutely disaster but it'd be fascinating to see them try. They could surely contract it out to a mid-size developer.

Yeah just calibrate it around both participants sharing points as a team. Like it's not just the suplexer who did the suplex, it's also the suplexee who had to provide most of the power and land on their neck without dying.

It would be like paired figure skating yeah.

Won't that just be a bunch of 40 minute spotfests with finisher kickouts and an announcer table spot? Presumably you mean a country enters two competitors who wrestle each other?

Would one of the USA competitors be in a Soviet Russia gimmick and wear an red army coat over the US team leotard?

the USA would have loads of finisher kickouts, Mexico would have the spotfests with all the dives and flips, and Japan would just be two dudes dropping each other on their heads for 30 minutes until one of them stays down

There are three disciplines in the Olympics: speed climbing, which is done head to head and uses a standard set of holds across all competitions; lead climbing, which is also head to head but more about the technical difficulty of the climb with the difficulty ramping up round to round and the winner being the climber who gets highest/completes when the other climber doesn't; and bouldering, where you have as many attempts as you can fit into a set time (I think 4 minutes) to complete the problem.

IMO speed climbing is a bit of a weird gimmick but I guess it's the most exciting to watch for non-climbers, and the people doing it are obviously really strong and skilled. I'm well used to spending weeks or months on a hard boulder project, but climbing the same relatively easy route again and again for speed is a bit odd to me. I've seen a couple lead climbing competitions live and they can be pretty exciting - the climbers are going into the routes blind so they will naturally find different ways to approach them, some more successful than others. But I think the bouldering is the most impressive for raw strength and ability - problems are typically just a few moves long and you can keep retrying them, which means the moves can be really, really hard in a manner that would never appear on the lead wall. It's also my favourite climbing style to do personally, and the people at the top are just incredible to watch.

Of course as a grumpy old man who learned his ropes in the traditional manner of being dragged up overgrown choss fests by older climbers I must note that none of this is rock climbing, which is done outside on actual rock, and what have any of these kids ever done on grit none of them would know what to do on an honest Yorkshire VS 5a etc. etc.

Oh my word that Merc and its completely hosed engine will keep me warm at night for quite some time.

Sort of intrigued by the few that seemed to go through at the right kind of speed (in that the water never seemed to reach the grille) but still died immediately afterwards though - one or two might have just been electrics being outraged by the introduction of water, but some of them looked completely hosed.
