So I had no idea the Pixel Remasters are coming out this soon.

Have any of you preordered any? I might actually get FF3. A lot of folks in here insisted it was better than FF3D so I'd like to test that out for myself.

People make FF2 sound kind of interesting so I might go for that but otherwise I'm not interested until 4/5/6 (but I'm waiting for them to come to console so I guess I won't be playing them anytime soon anyways)

Again a very likpatous story
I'll probably get all of them except 2 and 4 if they come to the Switch.

I'm not saying 4 is bad or anything, just I've played it so many times I don't feel the need to buy it yet again, plus I personally feel the DS version is the definitive one for that game.

I want to replay 4 before Endwalker launches but also I want to wait until they're -50% in two years and buy them all

Luckily you'll have about a dozen ways to replay 4 so you don't need to wait for the remasters.

I got the whole bundle, still not super happy with the way the text looks and the fact that the menu on the bottom isn't centered, but that's what mods are probably for right?

You do not look terribly noble and yet I feel troubled, attracted, bewitched.

Ill wait for a bundle, or something. Based on the three gifs I've seen of ff3 it looks like it's being rebuilt from the ground up. I excited to see what, if anything is being added or changed between versions. Despite not having any special love for the ff5/6 gba content my brainworms would be upset if that content was not included. At the very least i'm expecting the evade bug to be fixed in 6.

None of the structured design of 13, none of the fun of LR.

At least it has Ham Ballad.

Ignore my posts!
I'm aggressively wrong about everything!
I know I'm definitely buying the remasters of III (since the NES original is a new experience for me) and IV (because I never actually finished it and do want to do that before Endwalker). The rest depends on price point, and possibly the quality of the Chaos Shrine music.

Yeah okay the dressup was fun. Or, would have been if Lightning didn't have an utterly bizarre model, as you say

The combat in LR is an RPG-fied character action game and half the game is quests like "Lightning agrees to go on a date with this loser just cause he's paying for a fancy restaurant" or "Lightning doing promotional args that annoy her to get fireworks" or "Escorting some sheep while a nerd blathers on about sheep facts."

LR is incredibly fun.

Im really happy they brought back the spell slots system for one, looking forward to it and like none of the other ones since they are already fairly covered by the gba/ds remakes

I really hope someday they will bring back this Vancian-inspired system. If not in FF than some other JRPG. It's such a cool magic system and way more interesting than MP.

The only JRRPGS I've played with anything like it are FF3 of course but also Chrono Cross which sort of expanded and innovated the idea.

Yeah I really disliked that every port of ff1 after the ps1 has done away with spell slots, it really takes away a lot of the game's identity. It's not a perfect system but I like that most spells don't necessarily become obsolete as a result of learning higher tiers, or at least it would work that way if intelligence actually worked and FIR2/ICE2/LIT2/HRM2/HEAL didn't have 100% efficacy when cast from items. I hope intelligence correctly scales up the black mage's damage, it'll be cool if a high level black wizard can use tier 1 elemental spells against the correct weakness and contribute useful single target damage in random encounters

I personally think that MP is kind of a Final Fantasy thing. It makes the most sense to me and the first time I saw it was in an FF game.

MP, if you want to get weird, is just Vancian spell casting with conversion rates.

Mr. Locke

The bigger issue is that FF1 is just not balanced around far less restrained magic. Having greatly increased access to Cure and AoE Damage trivializes what is the hard part of FF1& managing resources. It's a very simple game- of it's era- and it never took much to turn it from a tricky series of dungeon crawls to Mash A to Win. Even the bonus content in later versions are mostly Go In, see whatcha die to, cast the right buffs/wear the right gear, repeat for the next fight.
