At risk of pre-emptively shaming, I can't imagine that that came as a shock to anyone. The alter-ego that Princess Alicia chooses to go by is only two letters off from her real name. Even if her face is always hidden, I can't see how none of the townspeople would catch on to that. Especially since that girl presumably disappears into the castle whenever she's seen in town.

At best, I could understand someone thinking that maybe Alice was a sister (mirroring how Alfonse and Chris are twins).

I'm a temperamental contrary stubborn jerk, so any time a game/group of characters tries to take the moral/intellectual high ground or force me along a particular path, I will fight it with all my might and take everyone down with me if need be.

I will also attempt to destroy any faction or character that wrongs mine, to whatever extent the game permits me. The more a game lets me get away with, the happier I am.

Ehhh... yeah, I guess I should. It's technically part of an Eliza event, even though she isn't taking part in it. Kind of the same way Remus was only in half of his event.

It's a resort town, so this seems likely. Until now, there wouldn't have been anyone out looking to kidnap or kill the Princess of anime Barbados. The citizens probably felt like there was no harm in letting her roam.

Besides, how else would you explain the fact that she apparently manages to slip away unnoticed for hours without people like Baker regularly freaking out.

Extra Update 3: Talking Shop

I’ve decided to make this an Extra Update, because the amount of new spellstones that have suddenly become available to us is far too great and/or boring to cover in the middle of a main update.

Recruiting Payton to your city should be the immediate priority as soon as you save Sunsail village. Payton will eventually get a full-fledged shop in the player’s city, but until then he will still act as a very valuable source of spellstones.

So what, exactly, does he have to offer right out of the gate? I won’t cover the exact details of Stones leveled 1-5, since those are largely common types we’ve been able to buy or find for a long time now. I will list everything on sale, but we’ll save the detailed breakdowns for the good poo poo.

—Level 1 Stones—
-Fire Protection
-Wind Protection
-Thunder Protection
-Ice Protection
-Earth Protection
-Holy Protection
-Mind Protection
-Regeneration +1 (Restore a piddly amount of HP per turn)
-Enemy Magnet (Attract enemy attention better on the field)
-Poison Attack (Inflict Poison sometimes)
-Sonic Blade (Increase melee attack range)

Level 1 Stones are all stuff we’ve encountered before and are the very bottom of the barrel in terms of usefulness. They don’t have a colour, so you can slot them into any Ring Slot and still get full skill exp. That said, there is almost no situation outside of the beginning of the game where you should be using them, since better stuff has been available for a long time.

—Level 2 Stones—
-Fire Imbuing
-Wind Imbuing
-Thunder Imbuing
-Ice Imbuing
-Stone Imbuing
-Holy Imbuing
-Mind Imbuing
-Wisdom Blade +1
-Wisdom Armor +1
-Attack Range Up
-Skill Effect +1
-Luck Up+1
-ATW Reduction +1
-Skill Lv +1
-Ring Slot Up
-Soul Crusher
-Ambush Guard
-MP Cost Down

Level 2 Stones still have their uses, but a lot of them will have become obsolete with the opening of Payton’s shop and the ability to buy Fairy Tears in Sunsail (which you can now fast travel to). MP Cost Down is still a solid choice for Remus, however, since his MP total is so bad.

—Level 3 Stones—
-Magic Lv +1
-Knack Lv +1
-Stun
-Chemist’s Art
-Revival Art
-Nightmare
-Meditation +1
-Regeneration +2
-Intelligence Up +1
-MOV Up +1
-Magic Shield
-Stealth
-Spell Doubling +1
-Critical Strike
-Bloody Blade
-Magic Drain
-Parry
-Weapon Damage Up+1
-Regeneration Seal

Level 3 stones are handy mostly for picking up certain skills, like Critical Rate Up from Critical Strike or Stealth. Regeneration Seal can have niche uses for certain battles against enemies that restore health every turn, since it stops that from happening. Magic Shield can also be handy in particular battles, as long as the character you have it equipped to doesn’t need to cast any spells.

—Level 4 Stones—
-Venom Attack
-Dispel
-Fire Aura
-Wind Aura
-Thunder Aura
-Ice Aura
-Earth Aura
-Holy Aura
-Mind Aura
-All Up +1
-Stun Guard
-Magic Range Up
-MOV Up +2
-Assassin Strike
-ATW Reduction +2
-Wind Shield
-Vampire
-Wisdom Blade +2
-Wisdom Armor +2

Level 4 stones are mostly improvements on previous stones. The Aura stones are better versions of the Level 1 Protection series. They outright null enemy attacks of their associated element while also teaching two spells (usually the elemental spell and an associated one). For example, Thunder Aura nulls lightning attacks against the character and also teaches Sand Shot and Wind Edge.

Other than that, MOV Up+2 and ATW Reduction+2 have their uses if you need a character that moves and acts very quickly.

—Level 5 Stones—
-Skill Lv +2
-Magic Lv +2 (Teaches Death)
-Knack Lv +2
-Blizzard Power
-Magma Power
-Lightning Power
-Skilled’s Ordeal – ATK increase per number of enemies defeated in battle
-Meditation +2 (Teaches MP Up) – Restores 2 MP during battle at regular intervals
-Luck Up +2 (Teaches Cycle Down, which slows an enemy’s ATW)
-Ril Up (Teaches Thievery)
-Skill Effect +2
-Magic Barrier (Teaches HP Up) – Reduces damage received from weapon/spells by 15%
-Destructive Light (Teaches Attack Up) – 20% of Attack Up Lv 1 activating during battle
-Protective Light (Teaches Protect) – 20% chance of Protect Lv 1 activating during battle
-Patience Light (Teaches Fear and Resist) – 20% of Resist Lv 1 activating during battle
-Shadow Spell (Teaches Shadow Dodge) – Stone doubles the effect of Shadow Dodge
-Ascetic’s Vow (Teaches Sabotage) – Weapon damage increases 50%, but user receives 10% recoil damage
-Seal Dash (Teaches MOV Up) – Be able to use the knack Dash as an item up to 5 times. Recharge at an Inn
-Weapon Damage Up +2 (Teaches Fierce Strike) – Increases weapon damage to targets by 20%
-Parry EX (Teaches Impede and Focus) – Decrease weapon damage from enemies by 20%

This is where the good stuff starts. The Power series of stones are better forms of the Imbuing stones. They imbue 2 elements at once and apply elemental damage based on which of the two is more effective (Magma Power is Fire/Earth. It will apply Fire damage if the enemy is weaker to Fire than to Earth, and vice versa).

Seal Dash is a great choice for any melee character, since MOV Up is a natural skill that will increase movement speed as it levels up. Dash is also a handy Knack that will double movement speed for a short time, although you would be better off learning it instead of having it be used like an item.

There are a lot of good buff/debuff spells to learn here. Fear is something we haven’t encountered yet, but it’s basically the debuff form of Resist. It increases spell damage received by allies or enemies affflicted with it.

Focus is good for spellcasters, since it increases defence while casting.

Finally, there are some solid stat raising skills to learn. HP Up and MP Up can help mitigate weaknesses for certain characters, such as Remus’ terrible MP limit or Eliza’s slightly spongier HP.

—Latest Products (Level 6 spellstones, currently)—
-Balance Breaker (Teaches Soul Smasher and Impede) – Longer stagger times inflicted on attacked target. Can be used with Impede
-Caster Barrier (Teaches Focus and Magic Def Up) – Skill Concentration becomes usable, which stops the ATW from increasing when attacked while casting
-Magic Range Up EX (Teaches Magic Range Up) – Increases spell area to max. Spells without range restriction are obviously excluded
-Angel’s Sacrament (Teaches Escape and Raise) – Automatically revive in battle with full HP. Can only be used once per battle
-Mirage (Teaches Invisible and Magic Shell) – Increases evasion rate
-Power Up (Teaches Soul Smasher and Dodge Up) – ATK increases by 1 at certain intervals during a single battle
-Seal Fierce Strike (Teaches Fierce Strike and Sabotage) – Use the Knack Fierce Strike as an item up to 5 times
-Duplicate Ring (Teaches Keen Eye) – Defeat 20 enemies while attached to duplicate the ring it is attached to
-Attack Range Up EX (Teaches Attack Range Up) – Ranged weapons’ reach doubles
-Weapon Damage Up +3 (Teaches Fatal Strike) – Increases weapon damage to targets by 30%

Hot drat, there’s a lot to cover here. I’ll go over the individual skills below, but generally you will want at least 1 Duplicate Ring along with Mirage and Caster Barrier.

The rest of these are dependant on what kind of character build you want. I’ll cover the ones I came up with near the end of this update.

Now let’s cover all of the different skills that can be learned from these spellstones. I’ll just go over the stuff I don’t think I’ve mentioned before:

-Shadow Dodge (Dodge attacks at the last instant) – Higher Level = Increase in evasion
-Keen Eye (Chance of obtaining rings increases by 10% per skill level. Total of entire party’s skill Lv)
-Death (Summon Death to reap the target’s soul. Mind Element / Single Target)
-Magic Vortex (Drain MP from a target. Mind Element / Single Target)
-Sleep (Mind Element / Single Target / Heal by casting Remedy, or waiting a certain length of time)
-Bind (Bind a target’s movement. Single Target / Heal by Remedy or waiting)
-Rust (Decrease a target’s weapon attack strength. Single Target / Heal by casting Attack Up)
-Atrophy (Decrease a target’s defence against weapons. Single Target / Heal by casting Protect)
-Fear (Decrease a target’s resistance to spells / Single Target / Heal by casting Resist)
-Invisible (Become invisible and untargetable by enemies. You can still be hit by area attacks)
-Magic Shell (Nulls enemy spells / Single target)
-Heal (Stronger version of Cure)
-Circle Strike (Attack all surrounding targets at 75% attack strength)
-Soul Smasher (50% of attack damages HP, 50% depletes MP)
-Impede (Stagger a target)
-Sabotage (Disrupt spellcasting. Lowers the spell up to Lv 2)
-Fatal Strike (Chance of 1-hit KO)
-Death Curse (Curses a target and eventually kills them. The Doom spell, basically)
-Time Bomb (Set a time bomb that damage anything near the explosion)
-Dodge Up (Needs to be activated. Not a passive increase of evasion)
-Focus (Increase Defence while casting)
-Magic Def Up (Increases magic resistance by 2. Buff spell)
-Dash (Doubles movement speed. Needs to be activated)
-MOV Up (Passive increase in Movement Speed)
-Magic Range Up (Increase spell area. Only works with Area spells, since regular spells have no range limit)
-Attack Range Up (Increase Ranged Weapon’s reach. Passive)

—Character Builds—

So, with all of that junk covered, what kind of stuff can you pull off with the new array of spellstones and skills? Here’s what I came up with for our current party:

Castlevanille: Symphony of the Schwart

Crevanille gets two Ascetic’s Vows, which boost his weapon damage by 100%. Normally this would cause him to receive 20% recoil damage during each attack, which would not be sustainable. To counter this, I give him Vampire EX, which I picked up as a drop (or stole, I can’t quite remember). You can also pair it with Bloody Blade EX, if you managed to get one of those (this one I got as a drop during the Sunsail mission).

The result is that Crevanille’s regular attack damage goes from this:

To this:

You can also do stupid stuff like teach Crevanille Circle Strike through the spellstone Brandish, allowing him to do this:

Keep in mind that Armored Crab has very high Physical Defence and Circle Strike deals 75% damage

By having him level Critical Rate Up to 5 and then buffing him with Attack Up, you can also get him to regularly score critical hits for damage like this:

On top of that, if you’ve been putting work into Venom Attack, then Crevanille will likely badly poison anything he doesn’t outright annihilate in the first few swings.

I also have him learn Shadow Dodge to boost his evasion, so there’s a decent chance for him to just ignore incoming enemy attacks.

Lightspeed Eliza

With Vampire Lord Crevanille acting as a nearly unstoppable engine of destruction, Eliza will need to fill a new niche.

On top of teaching Eliza MOV Up, Dash, and Shadow Dodge, I also load her with MOV Up spellstones. Unfortunately I only have a single +3 stone at the moment, but I’m sure we can dig up two more from somewhere.

The result is:

Eliza will be able to reach basically any point on any field within a second or two. My plan is for her to be able to respond to any annoying mission developments, such as having to hit a switch halfway across the map, have a party member escape to a certain spot, or reach an escort target and draw aggro off of them before they get killed.

She’s a strong enough frontline fighter that she should be able to hold off enemies or clear a path on her own while waiting for Hurricane Crevanille to roll into town.

Mind Frayer

Frayne doesn’t get anything as flashy as Crevanille and Eliza. I give her Magic Range Up EX, so that joint spells like Blizzard can actually hit things more than 2 feet away. She spent some time with Healing Skills in order to pick up some stronger healing spells. I also give her a combo of Skill Effect and Spell Doubling. This means that she has about a 30% chance of double casting a spell.

Now, because this places such a heavy strain on her MP, I have her learn Magic Vortex.

Which will allow her to suck the nearest magical being dry in order to restore her own MP. As a bonus, Magic Vortex can also be double casted, so there’s a chance that she could end up going back for seconds.

Remus the Aimbot

Remus is geared to be able to hit anything on the field in his sightline without having to move. I’ve also loaded him with Balance Breakers, which he can use in combination with the Impede Knack. The idea is for Remus to slow down far off enemies while Eliza either runs around them or Crevanille slowly steamrolls over them.

I also had an idea for a Critical HP build for Remus where he just sits at low health and constantly triggers Multi-Shot, but it requires some more tweaking.

So this is where our party currently stands. I still need to do a little more grinding in order to level up some passive skills, but everyone now has a specific purpose.

I still maintain that this game can be frustrating as hell. But with that said, you can break it over your knee very early and very badly if you know what you are doing. Exploiting stacks is a big factor in making enemies a joke.

The funniest thing about how broken Crevanille is right now is that he still doesn't have his stupid broken Final Limit Ability that can be exploited in its own right.

To be fair, this game has that too. There's a lot of game breaking stuff that has to be farmed for from the Colosseum. There's also some key items, I think.

In terms of fights, you would be correct. I still plan to give tips or suggestions for battles, but my personal tactics from this point on will mostly revolve around Crevanille salting the earth as he moves. I recorded the next section of gameplay earlier today and he solo'd two minor bosses by himself while barely being slowed down.

The nice thing for me is that even if the thread decides to replace Remus, Frayne, and Eliza with new party members, I will always have Crevanille.

Update 19: No Man’s Land

In case you didn’t read Extra Update 3, here is what you missed: Crevanille is now Hellsing, Eliza is Sonic, Frayne is a Mind Flayer, and Remus can shoot really far.

The opening of Payton’s shop marks the point of the game where levels start meaning less than what skills your characters have and what spellstones you use. You can still get by perfectly fine by sticking to the typical JRPG leveling curve, but you can also break this game over your knee if you know what you’re doing.

So, while I will still give tips and battle advice during future updates, how well they work for you will become increasingly harder to judge. It will be quite some time before I personally employ any tactics beyond “Send Crevanille” or “Have Eliza run to a place.”

In the meantime, the grinding and skill leveling I did off-screen have given us a fat war chest with which to upgrade everyone’s armour. Everyone gets top of the line gear before we leave Sunsail. Crevanille gets Ebony Armor, Eliza gets Royal Dress, Remus gets Crimson Jacket, and Frayne gets Holy Robe.

Once you are all set, head back to where we found Payton and Pocaccha to talk to Baker.

Here’s your report! Valkanian soldiers occupied Sunsail!

What!? Is that true!?

Yeah. You guys almost got pincer attacked immediately. Might want to keep an eye on those blind spots, Baker.

It’s true. We fought them off this time, but you’re going to need more guards.

We owe you one. I’ll reposition a squad to watch over the village. Where are you going, by the way? The battlefield’s just north of here.

Lake Aida, hmm… You can get there over the bridge up north, but the battlefield’s in the way. That’s not a problem for you, I suppose.

You have no idea.

Just be careful out there.

We’re now free to head through the checkpoint and make our way towards the main bridge between Valkania and Dulkheim.

Which of course means that there will be a ton of soldiers from both countries standing in our way.

On the Valkanian side, the soldiers will often be in groups of 3-5 and have a mix of melee, healers, and casters. They tend to be in the mid-twenties, so nothing particularly dangerous. That said, it becomes more and more of a pain to return to Sunsail and heal the further you go, so maybe don’t push yourself too hard right out of the gate.

In other words, watch your MP. HP is easy to heal up with items, but our only sources of MP restoration are Inns or Meditation spellstones (which only restore like 2MP, intermittently, while in battle). You could also use Magic Vortex on Valkanian/Dulkheim spellcasters and healers, I suppose. Assuming you bothered to level up that skill.

As you continue north, killing untold numbers of Valkanian soldiers along the way, you will eventually hit this sign. If you try and go to Klasdahl, you’ll be stopped at the edge of the screen by a group of 5 or 6 Valkanian soldiers. This group will continue to spawn every time you try and go towards Klasdahl, so you can’t force your way through.

Oh, right, I should point out that the experience the Valkanian and Dulkheim soldiers pay out is pathetic. This isn’t a good area for grinding levels, but it can be a good spot for grinding skills. Since the soldiers are always in big groups, all of your party members can get a shot at scoring some kills. Something worth keeping in mind.

Anyway, before you go left from that sign to Aida Bridge, make sure you do your pre-battle buffing. Resist is a must for this upcoming fight, so buff it if you’ve got it.

If you’re going mostly based on levels, then I would recommend being around 32. That said, depending on what you’ve done with spellstones, you could also clear this entire upcoming section of game at sub-30.

[Valkanian Captain]: What? God, of all the times for Dame Silverneil to not be here… All personnel, get ready to fight! Take them all out!

[Valkanian Soldier #1]: Yes, sir!

Right away, you should take notice of the major threat in this mission. The far side of the bridge is home to six Valkanian spellcasters. There’s also an archer on the cliff to the right of the bridge, and a healer in the bottom left. The four enemies on the bridge are melee soldiers.

My normal recommendation is to send Crevanille and Eliza to fight the melee soldiers while having Remus and Frayne charging Wind+Ice/Fire magic for Blizzard or Flare.

If Frayne or Remus does not have Magic Range Up EX equipped, then stick to Flare. At default range, Blizzard won’t reach far enough to target the other side of the bridge.

Blizzard’s spell animation isn’t very impressive.

But it (mostly) gets the job done.

Of course, that’s what I would normally recommend. In our case, I just have Eliza flashstep across the bridge and carve her way through the spellcasters by herself. She fights her way through one of the melee soldiers and reaches the other side of the bridge in the time it would have taken for Remus and Frayne to finish off the first group of spellcasters (Blizzard didn’t kill them all in one shot, unfortunately).

Crevanille has also dealt with the remaining 3 melee soldiers in this time frame.

Frayne and Remus switch to cleanup duty, targeting the archer on the cliff and the Healer in the bottom left corner.

Easy-peasy. Remember to steal from the Valkania Captain, though. I managed to swipe the spellstone “Mage Slaughter” from him.

Not quite as impressive as it sounds, unfortunately. It could have some uses in certain missions, though. Worth keeping in the back of your mind. It also teaches the skills Soul Smasher, Fatal Strike, and Death Curse.

On the other side, we’ve only got one direction to go. The path on the right doesn’t lead anywhere (and it would likely be blocked by Valkanian soldiers if it did).

As a side note, if you leave this screen and come back, there will be another group of spellcasters and a Valkania Captain situated in that dead end path to the right. This can potentially be very lucrative, because you can steal from the Captain, respawn him, and steal from the next one.

In my case, I snag a STR Growth Up, which gives 2 extra points to STR during level ups. This goes on Crevanille for the time being, replacing one of his Ascetic’s Vows. I sacrifice some short-term devastating power for the promise of future, far more destructive, devastating power.

To the left of Aida Bridge, we will find ourselves facing Dulkheim soldiers. They are basically the same as Valkanian soldiers in levels and group composition.

The path we want is in the northwest corner of this field. Don’t bother following the road south, as there is a field with many groups of Dulkheim soldiers in it. The southern exit to that field also has another one of those infinite soldier spawns, so there’s no reason to bother trying.

It looks like the lab was built into the side of the mountain. I wonder how they managed that.

Questions for later. For now, let’s just get in there and look around. Head up to the doors and examine them to have them swing open.

The first thing you’ll see inside the ruins is this treasure chest locked in a tiny room. There’s a square space in front of the door. Let’s inspect both it and the door.

*Examine the door*

The door doesn’t seem to have enough power to open.

There’s a hole in the ground. Maybe something’s supposed to go in there?

”Maybe” means “Yes, definitely.” This is a similar situation to the Fandelcia Ruins. We need crystals to slot into the spaces on the floor in order to power the doors.

I’ll save you the exploration time and just tell you that there are 9 of these, meaning we need 9 crystals.

Go north and then to the left. The enemies in here are variations on Gels and those weird sex toy monsters from the Fandelcia Ruins. The only new enemy type is the Spectre. You can probably guess as to what their deal is. Hit them with Fire or Holy (Ice, Wind, and Lighting will probably do the job as well).

Go up from the previous area to find some stairs that take you to Floor 2. On Floor 2, head straight across to the right in order to fall into a hole. This will put you up on the cliff you would have spotted shortly after entering the ruins.

Near this weird kiddy slide, there will be a white sparkly to investigate. This will give you 1 Energy Crystal. Consider it the game giving you a freebie. You’ll have to earn the other 8 crystals.

Head down the slide and then retrace your steps back to the stairs. Back on Floor 2, head down this time instead of to the right (where the hole is). Snake around the one-way path until you find a save spot.

This is the end of the Ruins. Yes, they really are that short.

Since there’s a save point here, you know that a boss is incoming. You know the drill. Resist is probably a good idea to include in your buffing for this mission as well.

When you enter, the screen will pan over to show this giant robot thing pooping out a little ball.

The ball will roll down that path in the floor until it hits the glowing wall at the end. When it does, it will rise up and transform into this… thing.

W-We’re getting attacked!

Here’s the thing: Feyralis is a pushover. All you need to do complete this mission is defeat it. It is not very strong or durable.

That should immediately tip you off that there’s more to this fight than the game is telling you.

As soon as the fight starts, Feyralis will auto-cast Lv 1 Barrier on the three adds positioned around the room (one just in front of him, and two in the upper corners).

Barrier gives the monsters (called Thunder Ball) a free hit. Anything you hit them with will cause 0 damage, after which the barrier will wear off. Feyralis will automatically reapply Barrier to any Thunder Ball that gets attacked. To stop him from doing that, we need to damage Feyralis.

When you damage Feyralis, it will enter System Recovery Mode. A timer will appear on your screen draining from 2 which tells you how long is left until Feyralis fixes itself. While in System Recovery Mode, Feyralis cannot cast Barrier. This is your chance to take out the Thunder Ball enemies. Physical attacks work fine, although Wind magic is particularly effective.

Keep in mind that you will need to break the Barrier on them first. Don’t waste a Wind spell doing that. Have Remus/Crevanille/Eliza tag them, then fire off the spell (or just target a Thunder Ball that doesn’t have a barrier).

And here’s the rub. Every time you kill a Thunder Ball, they drop an Energy Crystal. If you want all the sweet sweet treasure in these ruins, then you’ll need to kill 8 Thunder Balls during this boss fight.

Feyralis will spawn a new one every time you destroy one of them.

Warning: You only get the energy crystal if you destroy a Thunder Ball after it has transformed. Don’t hit them until they bump the glowing wall and turn into their attack form.

In terms of threats to you, there’s not much. Feyralis has a weak single-target laser beam thing it can occasionally do. Meanwhile, the Thunder Balls will cast Thunderbolt on Feyralis in order to heal it (it absorbs Lightning damage) and if you have a character standing between the Thunder Ball and boss, then they will eat some damage (remember that Thunderbolt is a line-type AOE).

My plan was to simply position Eliza right next to where the Thunder Balls transform. Crevanille eventually positions himself near the boss as well, ready to kill it at a moment’s notice.

Once you have acquired 8 Energy Crystals, you’re free to wreck Feyralis. The remaining Thunder Ball enemies will all go down with him.

Also remember to steal. I got a Magic Range Up EX, which isn’t impressive since we can buy it now, but whatever. They can’t all be winners.

Superlative, everyone.

We’ll loot the ruins in a little bit. For now, let’s check out the room in the back.

This is quite a large cylinder…

This is… a cannon.

A… cannon? What’s a cannon?

I can’t really explain it in detail, but it is a very powerful weapon.

Is a weapon like that really all that powerful in a world where I can call on the moon to fire an orbital laser?

There’s a manual here. …But I can’t read it.

It says that this is a “Small Spellcannon Prototype-One.”

You can read that, Frayne?

Yes, but the text is complex. I don’t really understand it.

I see. But besides that, this doesn’t seem to work.

It IS 2,000 years old, after all.

In any case, we should take it back with us.

*Small Spellcannon and Spellcannon Manual obtained*

Yay! Ancient Weapons!

I wonder if there’s anyone who can repair this.

Before we leave, there’s another sparkly spot over on this bookshelf.

Ah, this one appears to be in good condition.

*Cryptic Document obtained*

This… It’s so technical, I can’t really read any of it.

Let’s take it with us for now.

We’ll have to cross the border again, so let’s rest first.

There’s also a bed in this room that we can rest in. Definitely use this, as I’m sure your party is battered and bruised after all that fighting.

Speaking of the border…

[Narrator]: Due to this, as the Iglesias Army had expanded its reach into the Solcorin Marsh, it found itself in a pincer attack between the Dulkheim Army and Lieutenant Colonel Lumis.

[Narrator]: For his distinguished action during this battle, Lumis was promoted to colonel. However, no sooner was he promoted than he was sent from Iglesias toward the southern end of Dulkheim to support Ludwig, who was having a difficult time.

[Narrator]: It was in this way that Dulkheim and Valkania came to a stalemate.

*A soldier approaches*

[Dulkheim Soldier]: Tricia, we’ve got a mission! We’re heading out to Aida Bridge! We’re going to take the border back!

Understood!

*The soldier leaves*

I’ve changed since then. I can fight now. I’m a member of the military, too!

Well, that’s potentially going to be a problem for us.

Let’s see what Vallery is up to after getting his rear end kicked by us in Sunsail.

Where is Sir Muntzer?

[Senior Officer]: Sir Muntzer is currently on his way to the King to make a report. Stand by until he returns.

Yessir.

[Senior Officer]: By the way, Vallery… Are you aware that Bryntir, who is also from Dulkheim, has deserted?

”Bryntir Gelonious, tenuously with this faction!” :v:

D-Deserted?

[Senior Officer]: You aren’t scheming up some sort of conspiracy, are you?

Not at all. I was simply stationed at the same base. I didn’t know him that well.

[Senior Officer]: Hmph. Say what you will, but it sounds to me like you’re lying.

…..

[Senior Officer]: Ah, Sir Muntzer.

What’s going on? Is something wrong?

[Senior Officer]: No, no, there’s nothing wrong!

I see. I’ve received new orders from the King. Prepare the troops.

Let me guess, “Muntzer, capture Marquelay and also win the war against Dulkheim and also cure cancer!”

[Senior Officer]: As you wish, sir!

*The officer leaves*

My deepest apologies, sir!

You can make up for it next time. In any case, have you heard about Bryntir?

Yes! However, I…

Say no more. You are different from Bryntir. He came here to use us from the very beginning.

But you gave him a position, even though you knew this?

That’s why I sent him with the team to investigate the ruins. But like I said Vallery, you are different than he. I have faith in you.

Sir!

He used to be cool. Now he’s just a little boy trying hard to earn substitute daddy’s respect. Come on, Vallery. Join up with the cool kids in No Angeles!

With the visions over with, we are free to steal everything not nailed down. These ruins are small, so I’ll just give a brief rundown:

-There are two side rooms in the boss chamber. The left room has Spell Doubling +2, while the right room has Lethe Drop (Change a ring slot’s colour to an equipped spellstone’s colour).

-North of the stairs leading to the boss chamber/the save point on Floor 2, is a room with a Dandy Book.

-South of the stairs/save point is a door that opens to a hole in the ground. Drop down to get to a chest that has Alsiov’s Bell. This item makes it so that enemies will always drop items (during the battle in which you use this item).

-To the right of the previous door (on Floor 2), is a chest with an Elixir Vitae. Elixir Vitae is a full HP recovery item for the entire party. Very handy.

-The last treasure room on Floor 2 is next to the stairs to Floor 1. It has a Secret Book.

-Drop back down the hole that lead us to the free Energy Crystal. There’s a chest here with Brandish. This is the spellstone that teaches Circle Strike. If there are 2 or more enemies within attack range while this spellstone is equipped, then there’s a 20% chance of the character performing a Circle Strike automatically.

-On Floor 1, near the stairs to Floor 2, there’s a chest with Balance Breaker.

-Finally, the chest we saw when we first entered the ruins has an Ambrosia. Ambrosia is the MP restorative item. It recovers 30-37 MP.

That’s it for the Aida ruins. Time for us to hightail it back to No Angeles before the border turns into another clusterfuck.

Apropos of nothing, you may want to buff everyone before moving to the next screen.

[Dulkheim Soldier #1]: Yes, sir!

[Valkania Soldier #1]: U-Understood!

The fighting’s already started.

We’ll have to make our way through here again…

Will we be able to make it back to Marquelay safely?

That’ll depend on what Master does.

So, we need to get our party back across the bridge. The only problem being that Marler and Simmons are out there having a dick swinging contest on it.

To Clear the mission, you just need to make sure that 1 of your party members gets to the escape point on the other side. Obviously, if you want to Complete it, then you’ll need to make sure everyone escapes on the other side while having a positive Bonus Gauge.

Marler will notice you shortly after the battle starts, but his attention will likely remain fixated on Simmons. The soldiers on both sides of the bridge will charge at each other and start battling somewhere near the middle, while the archers and spellcasters take shots at enemies completely at random. Sometimes they will target you and other times they will target Dulkheim/Valkania.

Crevanille and Eliza should chase Dulkheim onto the bridge and get to work clearing the route for Frayne and Remus. Don’t have Remus and Frayne standing around for too long, though. Dulkheim reinforcements will eventually start spawning behind them (there’s no way to finish this mission by killing everyone). You should aim to have Frayne and Remus advancing slowly as Eliza and Crevanille make progress on the bridge. Frayne may have enough attack range to help clear the melee soldiers on the bridge (attacking them from behind Crevanille/Eliza), if you feel like Crevanille and Eliza need a hand on DPS.

As for us? You know the answer to that.

Choo choo! Make way for the Pain Train, boys!

You’re just an arrogant loser riding off of Ludwig’s success!

[Captain Marler]: I cannot imagine being outdone by someone who can only find victory through underhanded tactics.

How dare you! You’ll regret those words.

As always, make sure to steal. Marler gives up an INT Growth Up, which will immediately be going on Frayne as soon as we get a chance to rest.

[Captain Marler]: Hwah!

That’s one pest dealt with.

[Dulkheim Soldier #2]: Captain Marler! It’s too dangerous! Please, pull back!

[Captain Marler]: M-My apologies…

*Marler flees like a little baby*

Simmons is next on the steal list. He coughs up a Sacred Elixir.

Also blood.

[Valkania Soldier #2]: Captain Simmons! Are you all right!?

Of course I am! But… I’ll let you deal with the rest.

*Simmons flees like a little baby*

With the bridge now cleared of Marler and Simmons’ force, we just need to cross the bridge and get out of here.

Except we then hit a snag.

[Dulkheim Soldier #2]: Great timing! This will change the tide of battle!

Huh? No… could it be…?

*send via knock code: “Glad you’re okay.”*

Knock code… Even though it’s in the middle of a battle, she should hear it.

Not sure how she would be able to with everything going on and use being in the middle of a bridge over a chasm, but sure. Whatever.

Huh!?

*She responded: “Why did you betray us?”*

*send back: “The army betrayed us.”*

…..

*She responded: “I don’t understand.”*

Crevanille… I don’t want to fight you.

If you responded to Tricia using knock code (kindly, I mean), then she will sit out this battle. Make sure you don’t target her for any attacks (Joint Spells included). Well, don’t target her if you actually like her, anyway. If you hate her for some reason or don’t give a poo poo about her then go ahead and kill her or whatever the hell you feel like doing.

As each character gets to the edge of the screen, they’ll say a quick word and then escape from battle.

Phew. Thank goodness…

I’ll go on ahead, but please be careful.

I leave Crevanille on the field to fight off the constant stream of Valkania reinforcements until everyone else is safe, because that’s what a hero does. Also because there is nobody on this field who can stand against Lord Crevanille Van Hellsing the Impaler.

As you can see by his ARP for this battle.

Fierce beast from another world! Hear my words and reveal yourself!

Hey! Look who it is! The big lizard creature thing that destroyed Trockmere! Isn’t that a coincidence?

[Valkania Captain]: Wh-What kind of monster is that!?

…Kill them.

*Everybody dies*

This should push the front lines back.

What? Even after Colonel Lichtmann captured Fort Rheoslock? Was there another base of operations on the Iglesian front?

[Messenger]: Well… He committed to assaulting the capital and was caught in a pincer attack by the enemy…

A foolish mistake… So, the commander in charge is now Major General Guster?

[Messenger]: Actually, General Guster also was killed alongside Commander Dranguss. Therefore, you are temporarily promoted to supreme commander, Major General Ludwig, sir. Please, lead our troops on the Iglesian front.

:cripes: Are you kidding me? Your nation’s military was commanded by a Supreme Commander and two Major Generals? Why the gently caress don’t you have any regular Generals? Or a Lieutenant General? Why was the entirety of your military’s top brass on the frontlines?

With Abram dead, would Supreme Command have been given to a Colonel (Lumis) if Ludwig had been blown up by an Angel or something?

I see. I’ll be returning to headquarters first.

Everybody except us is a dumbass. :colbert:

[Messenger]: The enemy is concentrating their forces on our headquarters, but surprisingly, the casualties have not been that high. However, troop morale has dropped following the death of Commander Dranguss, and the chain of command is in chaos.

What chain of command? You mean that single General and his rear end-kisser assistant?

Well, I’ll head there and take on the mantle of leadership. If we are to end this two-front war, we should deal with Iglesias first. Have Colonel Licthmann brought to me.

[Dulkheim Soldier]: Sir!

*The soldier leaves*

[Messenger]: I’m sure spirits will be lifted by your arrival.

Inform what remains of the top brass that I will be heading out to the Iglesian front.

[Messenger]: Sir!

*The messenger leaves. Lumis enters*

I’ve been granted a temporary promotion to supreme commander, with Dranguss and Guster now fallen. I will personally take command and bring this two-front war to an end. While I am gone, I want you to take over things here.

Y-You want me to handle this!?

I will let you know once my travel preparations are complete. You may stand down for now.

Sir…

*Lumis leaves*

This smug rear end in a top hat over here…

Congratulations, Ludwig, sir.

Speaking of the devil.

That’s right. This may have fallen into my lap by chance, but it’s not a bad idea to begin thinking about… presidential elections.

So, you intend to throw your hat in the ring, do you?

I can’t let an opportunity like this pass me by.

You think it can’t be done?

Typically no, but I’m sure you will pull it off because everyone else is apparently holding the Orb of Confusion.

It doesn’t matter what I think. But if you pull this off, it will make you look great. However, if you fail, you’ll quickly go from a hero to a nobody.

Things wouldn’t be interesting without a little pressure.

What’s wrong, Colonel? Why the long face?

Ah, it’s you, Bauer. Excellent timing. I have some documents for you.

Oh?

Based on your exploits, you are hereby granted citizenship in Dulkheim.

Hm, the others will be happy about that.

Your name was omitted from the written request, but I’ve added it in. It isn’t like you to forget such details.

There’s a good lad.

You don’t care about citizenship?

I want my guys to have a place to go home to, but I have no interest in staying in Dulkheim. Maybe if you were leading the country, I’d change my mind.

Me? In politics? Please, you already have Commander Ludwig for that. I’m apparently his representative while he’s gone, which is already more trouble than it’s worth.

Supreme Commander Ludwig’s rep? That’s really something!

In just mere moments, my very words can put many of our soldiers in harm’s way, you know.

Hey, maybe you should think about it in a different light.

That’s why I’m saying you need more self-confidence.

Self-confidence, eh…?

You saved the citizens of Solcorina, captured Fort Rheoslock, and were promoted to colonel. You have good reason to be confident!

That sure was insightful. Lumis and Bauer will now be up against someone of actual competence (Diana), while Ludwig will probably end up as God Emperor of Dulkheim by the end of the week.

See what I mean about Team FEBE? Everyone is terrible, except for the protagonist and his party, so we’re going to go our own way and then kill anyone that tries to stop us from doing what we want.

The trip back to Sunsail (and then to No Angeles via Transgate), is uneventful. When we get back, however, we can talk to Gordran and learn that the western half of the city is now operational. Let’s go check it out!

Fancy.

Over on the left, there’s a chic hotel and store.

Payton is set up in here, although we don’t have anyone manning the General Store or Armour Shop as of yet. We’ll need to get on that.

[Pocaccha]: Hey there!

[Payton]: Please take a look around. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, and the booming business, I get to run in this amazing area. I’ve got a pretty wide selection of items, so feel free to browse.

[Pocaccha]: Buy something, will ya?

Payton’s shop has all the same inventory from before. He hasn’t expanded into Rings or anything just yet. He can still identify them and buy them off of us, though. That’s helpful.

[Payton]: Please stop by again soon.

[Pocaccha]: Hey, Yuni!

Eh?

[Pocaccha]: You know that tunnel to the northeast of here, right? I dropped something in the forest racing the waterfall.

[Payton]: W-Wait a second, Pocaccha! Don’t tell me you threw it away!

[Pocaccha]: Obviously! Why would I use something like that!?

[Payton]: But I kind of liked it…

[Pocaccha]: See ya!

Free item! We’ll go and snag that before the end of the update.

Pfft, no. We’ve got a villa like 50 feet away.

How’s business doing?

[Hotel Man]: If business here starts to pick up, this place can be developed into a glorious 5-star hotel… But that all depends on how many customers we get. We’ll try to do our party by providing the best service available!

[Hotel Man]: You will focus on the person you are and the one you wish to become with help from our therapist. One session is 1000 Ril, so if you are interested and you have the funds, you should try it out. Please be aware that due to the personal nature of the therapy, it is handled in a 1-on-1 setting.

I believe this is something you can do during furloughs which allows you readjust Crevanille’s personality. If you don’t like being an rear end in a top hat to everyone, then you can attend some good old fashioned anger management classes to be a less terrible person. Good to know!

The door at the top of the little courtyard has Deligne’s clinic. Not really anything for us to do here at the moment, however.

We also have a restaurant to take people to during furloughs. Apparently we hired Eliza’s former cook.

Good stuff. Now that we’ve checked out the new west side of No Angeles, let’s go track down that thing Pocaccha “dropped” in the forest.

The area he is talking about is the road that leads to the Marquelay Ruins. It’s to the right of the Ordinale tunnel.

Oh, this is…!

*You obtain Familiar Costume I!*

This must be the item that Pocaccha was referring to.

New costume! It’s--!

…well, it is certainly a costume. At least it’s not a palette swap of her default? That’s something.

Anyway, you all know the deal. Yea or Nay on Yuni’s costume. Also, we’ll be having our fourth furlough, so pick who we should hang out with:

-Remus
-Frayne
-Eliza
-Hien
-Sydney
-Yuni (keep in mind that Yuni’s character events are hard locked until a certain point. I’ll tell you when they open up)

So...Pocaccha wants Yuni to wear...a bear costume he used to wear? Or a dog maybe, with the collar? And Payton liked it? ...Okay then.

Nay on the costume for me. As for the Furlough, I say Eliza, Remus, and Hien in that order if we have that many options.

Therapist, Hien, and take someone to lunch

Mission 23 is easily one of my favorites in the game, its so hectic and fun and lets you flex both your tactics muscles and your actual muscles.

Weirdly enough (or I guess most appropriately, depending on how you look at it), D-MD has the goofiest Costume I.

D-PT's is also a joke costume, but it is still very "normal" looking.

D-YN's is completely normal. None of her costumes can be considered "joke costumes."

I don't have D-RM's Costume I, so I have no idea if it is as goofy as D-MD's, or if D-MD is simply the odd one out here.

That seems to be the suggestion in the English version. I'll review a Japanese playthrough whenever I have a free moment to see if there are any changes to the conversation.

Pocaccha does say that he and Yuni are the same type (Doll-type), which means the costumes would fit him.

Keep in mind that I'm also only assuming that Pocaccha is a boy based on speech pattern and Payton saying "this guy" (which, I admit, can be a gender neutral saying). I don't think we've had direct confirmation yet. It's possible that Pocaccha threw the costume away because (2 times out of 3) it was a costume designed for a female Familiar.

As I mentioned previously, I’ll be splitting the furloughs off into their own updates. If any dream/vision things happen during it, then I’ll cover them at the beginning of the following main update. This will stop the furloughs from messing with my main update stopping points.

Also, I already recorded the next update and am I about to start on it, but that was back when there was a slight edge for Yuni to stay in her usual costume. Because it's now become a tie between Yea and Nay, I'll do the update after the next one with Yuni in Costume I, then switch back to H or ask for a fresh vote.

Furlough #4: Fledgling enterprise

This is another moment where the game doesn’t force you into a furlough. Generally, you’ll want to check with Sydney every time you’ve accomplished a story objective.

I recommend you take two full days. That’ll give you the rest you need. First, choose where you want to spend your furlough.

We’re going to be spending both days in No Angeles this time. At the time of recording, the thread wanted us to spend the vacation with Eliza, Hien, and Sydney. Sydney can only be interacted with in Marquelia for the time being, but Eliza has two events that take place in No Angeles.

What’s more, Sydney’s substory has hit a wall until we advance a little further into the game. Because of that, I figured it would be better to stay in No Angeles so that we can see two of Eliza’s events.

To make up for the lack of Sydney (at least a little bit), here is a scene that I didn’t catch during the previous vacation. MythosDragon pointed out that Sydney has a bit of dialog for us after Eliza got mad at her for shooting down all of her ideas.

I believe I have spoken too much already. I can understand if certain people may be upset…

This will help Eliza.

Yes…

And that’s all. I missed this because you have to leave the villa and then go back in to get Sydney to appear back in her usual spot.

Sydney will get a little more screen time, however, as she plays a part in Eliza’s next event. For now, let’s move on to Hien.

—Furlough #4: Day 1—

The cleverest I’ve seen are sword handles that conceal blinding powders and poles which have chains hidden within, waiting to burst out.

I’ll be sure to watch out.

Excellent. Perhaps the greatest lesson I could ever convey is to never underestimate your opponent. Know that monsters have their share of tricks, too. But there is always a sense of danger with the unknown.

Solid advice, uncle grandpa. In case you are starting to get the feeling that Hien’s substory is just going to be a constant barrage of philosophical questions and life lessons, then don’t worry. Hien’s substory is a little different than other characters, in that roughly half of it involves simply responding to these weird questions he has.

So far I think we’ve heard him ask 3 questions? This one, the one about swords, and the one about what Crevanille fights for. I think he has another 3 questions for us before his character story shifts focus.

But anyway, just wanted to point that out. There’s a new section of No Angeles open, so let’s take Hien out for some lunch at the new restaurant.

Right now we’ve only got Iglesian Cuisine on the menu.

Mmmm… cheeses…

I wonder if there are any chopsticks here…

I’ll take my leave here.

Because I can’t really hang out with Sydney like the thread wanted, I have Crevanille pay a visit to the hotel in order to get professional help.

Therapy costs 1,000 Ril a session and allows you to fiddle with the game’s hidden personality gauge for Crevanille. If you’ve been playing him a certain way and don’t like the fact that some response options are being greyed out, then this let’s you readjust his personality to your liking.

It also allows you to make him more or less gay through therapy, should you desire. Not really sure this approach was entirely thought out in terms of messaging, but what are you gonna do? It was 2003. Basically an eternity ago.

Keep in mind that these personality adjustments seem to be minor. If you’ve been playing Crevanille as an unforgiveable jackass or slimeball, then you may need a bunch of these sessions to counteract that.

In our case, I have Crevanille learn to be a little more humble (I tend to make him brag a bit), but it doesn’t have any impact on Yuni’s Psyche Evaluation of him after only a single session.

We won’t be making much use of this feature, of course. The thread wanted Crevanille played as a snarky hero, which is what he is and will continue to be.

[Gordran]: How are this month’s profits?

There are still a few numbers to run, but so far, they appear on par with last month’s.

Are we going to see any of these profits, by the way? I know we’re using them to pay land taxes, but there’s got to be at least a little bit left over, right?

That’s it!

What is “it”?

That’s what I’ll do. I’ll start a business! Like he did! Hey, would you mind helping me out?

I mean, just in case I decide to do something… er… insane! How about it? Want to come along?

What is our destination?

I want to ask Mr. Gordran how to start a business. Come on!

If I might trouble you, good sir… I wish to learn the ways of business!

[Gordran]: Ah, looking to raise your own income? That’s fantastic! What sort of business did you have in mind?

Ah, that… is a good question!

[Gordran]: Well, unfortunately, if you haven’t decided that yet, I can’t help you much. I must apologize, but my schedule is quite full today. If you’ll excuse me…

This strikes me as a “Hm, if you don’t have any ideas then I can’t cut in on the action. No thanks” kind of response.

*Gordran leaves*

It’s your home and your land, Miss Eliza. You don’t need me to tell you what to do with it.

Please don’t say that.

Please, could I ask for your advice one more time?

Miss Eliza… O-Of course. Whatever knowledge I can share with you, I will.

Thank you… First, I’d like to know what kind of business I should start.

Hm. Well, how much capital do you intend to raise first?

C-Capital?

Oh. Well… I know I’m pushing my luck here, but what could I do with no capital?

Er, truthfully…? That would be difficult. Although, Mel was a street peddler before she had her own store, if I recall. She’s gone through the hardships of starting a business. She might have advice for you.

Huh. Good idea! Thank you, Sydney!

You are most welcome. All the best.

Well then, that all worked out fine and dandy. Another victory for mostly voiceless protagonists! Now then, let’s go have a chat with Mel. You remember Mel, right? That girl we talked to when No Angeles was first getting built and then never interacted with afterward?

…It’s not like that. But I do have a question for you.

Shoot.

Could you tell me how you got started with your business? I’m… sure you’ve heard of my situation. I have to start making money before all the coffers are empty.

Oh, you’re looking to run a store! …And you’re asking me to help you become my competition…

Please. I’m begging you!

Well, you helped get my shop up and running in the first place… Okay. I’ll tell you what I know. It’s only fair!

drat right. You owe us. …I mean, you owe us aside from the rent we’re collecting off of you.

Thank you!

Before I came here, I plied my trade on foot. I’d just plop right down on the side of the road, and boom: open for business! What you really need, though, wherever you may be, is customers. Get enough of those, and you’ll be in the black.

Customers, uh-huh, good, good…

Right! That’s what I want to know about!

In my case, I make my goods by hand!

By hand? Really?

That’s right! If you make everything yourself, you can keep your costs down.

Well, hm. That’s no good. I’m not good at arts and crafts like you are. I can’t even remember the last time I made anything!

You could have fooled me, considering the outfit you are wearing was repurposed from a ballgown.

Well, then, you’ve gotta practice!

I don’t have time for that, though…

Oh… Sorry I can’t be more help.

No, it’s all right. I’m sorry to bother you.

*Crevanille and Eliza step away from the shop*

Hmm…

Thanks for letting me drag you around. I’m trying to be less snappy with people… I really appreciate your input. If I come up with any other ideas, I’ll let you know.

*Eliza leaves and our day ends*

—Furlough #4: Day 2—

Once again, we start with Hien. Eliza’s next event will automatically end the day after you start it, so save her for last if you have seen that event from yesterday already.

Indeed, I find myself remembering more these days. Like the time when I began to train with the sword, and I tested the blade on my flesh.

Correct. Not too severely, but enough to break the skin.

That’s pretty hardcore.

Why would you do that…?

It is not enough to simply have power. One must also understand it. I needed to learn the coldness of the blade, and the pain it could inflict. This is what will be felt by any enemy whom I cross swords with.

Your dedication is impressive.

I do not feel as though I have done anything out of the norm.

Indeed, now I will only enter combat when I have deemed it to be absolutely necessary.

That’s definitely not how we roll. Well… I guess it kind of depends on what situations we consider to be necessary. Short on money? I consider that a necessity requiring us to slaughter every living thing within a 3km radius.

After this, I take Hien to the theatre to see what he has to say about the performance.

Hmm…

You can tell what type of training they’ve had just by looking?

If you know how to observe, one can tell these things instantly.

That’s like martial arts.

Yes, that is correct. I spent countless hours repeating and refining the same movements. That is why, even after losing my memory, my body can still perform all the skills I used to, almost of its own volition.

I understand now…

I will be on my way now. Good day.

Well, that’s more than we get from a lot of the other characters. Because we have nothing else to do, I record an event from someone else in case the thread votes for them in the near future, then move on to Eliza.

It appears you are still troubled…

*sigh* There’s nothing I can do. There’s nothing! THIS isn’t possible, THAT isn’t possible… What can I do with no money!?

Well, you could always—

Oh, legal. Hmm… Well then, Eliza, have you heard of a little something called crypto currency? :smuggo:

…I assume you have like 100 GPUs and a hydroelectric dam lying around the villa, right?

You’ll find something eventually.

When!? I’ve looked and looked, but I can’t come up with anything good.

*Levan wanders in*

What is it, Levan?

[Levan]: I wish to inform you that I shall be gone for a brief period.

You know, you’ve been away rather frequently. What are you up to?

[Levan]: My sincerest apologies, Miss Eliza, but even I must insist on my privacy at times.

…All right.

[Levan]: By your leave, then.

*Levan leaves*

Hrm, what could he be doing…?

Might our time be better spent on something else?

Probably, but this is more fun.

Come on, aren’t you curious? Let’s go!

…..

Hurry up! We’re going to lose him!

So now we’re chasing after Levan.

When we leave the villa, we’ll see him moving towards the exit.

Be careful when approaching the town square. Levan will continue moving like normal even when the player gets control. He doesn’t pull any of that “stop and suddenly look behind you” crap, but we do need to be careful not to get too close to him.

Don’t lose sight of him…

We’re going to lose him if we can’t keep up…

He’ll wander into Marquelia and slowly make his way towards the docks.

Eventually, he’ll reach this house and enter it.

Once he goes in, head up to the door and examine it.

So, Levan is here…

One moment, Eliza. I detect a faint conversation.

People talking? Where?

[Child’s Voice]: Yes, Mr. Levan!

[Levan]: Today, we’re going to learn about multiplication.

…What is he doing?

The evidence suggests…

We’re busted! Cheese it!

Oh, I was just, um… inquiring about Mr. Levan, of course!

[Mother]: Oh, you know our teacher?

“Teacher?” Are we talking about the same person?

[Mother]: Oh, you didn’t know? A month ago, I asked if he could tutor the children. He’s a very good teacher. My children hate to study, but now they love it. I think they’ll be teaching US soon! They’re already coming up with ideas to expand our store.

Levan’s tutoring. Hmmm…

*Eliza starts walking away*

Eliza…

First he does ALL the servants’ chores, then he starts doing this. And he doesn’t even tell me…

I’m going to lighten his load with my own two hands.

I’ll do what I can to help.

Thanks! I’m counting on you!

You do know that we have buckets of now useless spellstones that we could pawn off, right?

Well, let’s head back to the villa!

That is almost it for this furlough. When we head to bed, there’s an extra scene with Eliza if we wrapped up that event we just did.

Someone is at the door. You may enter.

Got a minute? I know I’ve been worrying everyone these days, so I wanted to let you know… I’ve decided to start an “odd job shop.” People will ask for help with various things, and, well, I’ll try to help.

I’ve already asked Levan to start finding jobs for me. “Clients,” I guess, would be the term. I really do appreciate all your help. I just hope I can count on you a little longer…

That all depends on what the thread wants. It’s out of my hands, which is the way I like it.

Well, wish me luck. Good night!

*Eliza leaves*

There we are. That does it for our fourth furlough. Next time, we’ll get back on the story path.

Considering the costumes so far I didn't expect a bear/dog... whatever that is. So screw it, why not. I'll put in a vote for YES.
Also, the local populace has got to be a bit confused when the Lord's daughter starts doing odd jobs around for pocket change. That's like if you found out the President's daughter for your country was babysitting or something to pay rent. Actually, she is an RPG party so maybe asking her to pick flowers for $2.50 an hour isn't that out of character. I know when I play those types of games I'll do drat near every sidequest no matter how demeaning.
"Oh, hello Duke of our lands, can you go pick berries for me? I'll give you 3 gold."
"...Okay."

Update 20: Mighty Buffin' Angel Rangers

Nothing happened in terms of story during the furlough we just had. That’s a little weird…

Anyway, before we start sorting out what the hell we’re supposed to do next, I train Yuni a little more in the Dollhouse. She levels up some skills and also picks up 2 new ones.

You can see Bargaining up above. This is handy one to level, and I think it’s mostly based on your Familiar’s Talking and Charm stats.

Revenge is a skill that has a 2% x Lv chance of countering an attack on Crevanille. The damage it does depends on Yuni’s Strength stat.

Yuni only has 1 skill left to learn, but it’s going to be a while before we see it. I think I need to crank all of her stats above a certain level or something.

Oh well, we’ll get to it when we get to it. For now, we need to figure out what the hell we’re supposed to do. You may know based on hints, but if not, then a quick check of Yuni’s Event Memo skill will spell it out for you.

Makes sense. Before that, however, we have two things to check on.

Something on your mind, Mel?

Well, I was thinking about ways to expand my business. But there aren’t that many customers in this area. Also, my accessories sell cheap, so if I don’t sell a lot of ‘em, I don’t really make that much money. So, I need a way to attract more customers…

*We received 9 of Mel’s Fliers!*

Whenever you get to a new town, hand these out to girls that are interested in accessories! If they’re interested in fashion, and they have a lot of easily influenced friends that are around their age, that’s bonus points!

…You had this all planned out from the moment you started talking to me, didn’t you?

Heeheehee! You got me! But, I’ll give you something for helping me out! Be a pal!

Well, if Mel isn’t making money then No Angeles isn’t making money, so I guess we better do this. She also promised a reward, so that’s incentive enough for me.

We’ll get started on this right away, but before we leave to do some marketing, we need to chat with Gordran.

[Gordran]: I was thinking up a way to use the influx of mercenaries to our advantage, and it hit me… A Battle Arena!

:stare: Yeeeessss.

[Gordran]: Now, experienced mercenaries will gather here to test their skills and earn coin, which will allow the Marquelay Army to hire them.

So now we have the tantalizing promise of a Battle Arena being set up in No Angeles. I can’t wait for that. There’s a lot of good stuff to get from the Arena fights.

Unfortunately, we must contain our excitement and wait for a while. We have a fairly long stretch of story to get through coming up.

Let’s get some of Mel’s sidequest out of the way. We can’t finish the whole thing just yet, but we can at least get it started.

We have to keep an eye out for young ladies in some of the nearby towns and cities. Marquelia has 3 that we can hit up. This blonde girl near the entrance is one of them. Walk up to her and open the Key Items menu, then use Mel’s Flier.

[Blonde Girl]: Ooh, an accessory shop, you say? I’ll go check it out later!

This is the next girl.

Finally, there’s the fruit vendor lady.

That’s it for Marquelia. Next, we’ll head to Sunsail. We can easily pop over there with the Transgate, so it will only take a few seconds.

This is the only girl in Sunsail for us to throw unsolicited junk mail at.

Now then, the only other town in the area is Ordinale. Thankfully, we need to go that way for story purposes, so we can do the sidequest as we pass through. Unfortunately…

we don’t have a Transgate to Ordinale. That means we need to take this stupid route...

The good news is that there is a spot to set up a gate just outside of town. Now we never have to go through that godforsaken tunnel again.

As we approach Ordinale, we find that the soldiers have already swapped uniforms. Good thing, too. Don’t want to go confusing them for Valkanian soldiers. We tend to be a little gung-ho about attacking anyone opposed to us.

This is the only girl in Ordinale that will accept a flier. With that, we’ve done as much as we can with this sidequest. We’ll need to wait until we get access to some other nearby towns and cities before we can finish it up.

Since we’re here anyway, I head back to the Niche Shop and check out the inventory. The Niche Shop now carries GL Chips Set 2 and 3, so stock up. With Yuni’s Bargaining skill, the Chips Sets only cost 14 Ril each. Remember, Chips Sets are basically Vulnerary, so you might as well carry as many of them as you can. They are great for minor healing outside of battle that won’t deplete your MP.

When we’re ready, we leave Ordinale and head towards Klasdahl. We still can’t go to Rebrant (there are Ordinale soldiers blocking the path that tell us Alfonse is fighting up ahead), so we have to go north.

Just past the road sign, however, we get stopped by a conversation between a soldier and a group of healers.

[Ordinale Healer #1]: If we’re attacked along the way… God, we don’t even know where the enemy might be lurking…

[Ordinale Captain]: I will protect you all! We’re the only ones that can save our allies on the front lines! We must go!

[Ordinale Healer #2]: You can’t possibly keep us all safe, Captain!

Sounds like our services are needed. Let’s inquire.

[Ordinale Captain]: I hate to ask you this, but can you lend us your strength?

Yes.

Why not? I don’t mind kicking Valkania rear end.

[Ordinale Captain]: Ah, you’ll help us, then? Excellent! Please go ahead and engage the enemy patrols! We’ll follow behind.

The game gives us a second to prepare before the mission. It won’t start until we transition to the next screen. You know what that means. At least once an update…

IT’S BUFFIN’ TIME!

Cycle!

Attack!

Resist!

Protect!

:byodood: Let’s do this!

*Insert copious amounts of front flipping here*

[Ordinale Captain]: The scouting party was wiped out before they could reach the front.

We need to keep the enemy busy while you make it to the front, right?

[Ordinale Captain]: We’re the last of the reinforcements. Failure is not an option!

*A bunch of Valkania soldiers then appear from the trees*

[Ordinale Captain]: These are the ones who killed them…

Okay, so the goal of this mission is to protect the healers as they make their way along this C-shaped road. There are a bunch of Valkania soldiers already positioned along the way, including two spellcasters tucked into a little clearing to the right of the screenshot above.

Frayne should not be doing anything other than casting spells for this entire fight. Single target spells don’t have a range limitation, so she will be able to hit any enemy on this field. The idea is for her to act as an insurance policy by picking off any reinforcements that show up who may pose an immediate danger to the healers. You can also have her ready to throw healing items or spells in the event that any healer takes a stray hit.

[Ordinale Captain]: We’re counting on you!

Obviously, if you want a Mission Complete, then all of the healers need to live. 9 is the bare minimum needed to Pass the mission.

You have a little time before the Healers start arriving on the field. I start by having Remus attack the nearby archers. Crevanille and Eliza both pop the “Dash” Knack and then start chopping their way through the advancing swordsmen. Eliza is manually given a route that takes her to the forest clearing where two spellcasters are hiding out. Frayne starts charging spells and dealing with the spellcaster in the far north of the screen.

The Ordinale Captain will assist you a little bit. He does decent damage (about 70 per hit) and can take a good bit of punishment, but you shouldn’t be relying on him to intercept enemies before they can attack the Healers.

Reinforcements will also continue spawning from the treeline. The good news is that they aren’t unlimited. In fact, killing every reinforcement that shows up is the only way to get Mission Complete, because…

Yeah… the healers don’t move all at the same time. They will intermittently show up in groups of 1 or 2 and begin moving towards the north end of the field. The bonus gauge will be long in the negatives if you wait for all 14 of them to arrive and then escape to the north.

[Ordinale Healer #1]: We have to conserve our MP for healing spells for the troops ahead, so we can’t use any spells in battle.

[Ordinale Healer #2]: I know we’re asking a lot of you guys, but please, help us out!

The healers are also basically helpless. Despite what they just said, they will actually cast Cure spells sometimes. Usually they help heal the Ordinale Captain when he needs it. As always, though, do not rely on them to save the Ordinale Captain if he’s low on HP. You are better off healing him yourself instead of risking it.

Although this is an escort mission, it is thankfully very easy. I have never seen an enemy reinforcement appear from the inner treelines. They always arrive from the outer treeline in one of three zones. I positioned Crevanille in the North, Eliza in the middle, and Remus in the south. You can see their positions on the mini-map in the upper right (the 3 pale blue dots. The blue dot in the bottom right is Frayne).

Additionally, the healers all take the shortest route to the map exit, which means that they hug the inner treeline. As long as you have a character covering each spawn zone, you shouldn’t have any enemies getting within strike distance of the healers. The only exception to this is an enemy archer. Spellcasters will likely be dead long before they can cast a spell, but enemy archers could get a shot off from a range if you don’t deal with them as soon as they spawn.

You need to kill roughly 40 enemies to end the mission (or wait until at least 9 healers have escaped).

The main thing about this mission is to not let any character get overrun. Enemy reinforcements sometimes arrive 2 at a time from a single spawn zone. Soldiers will often get caught up fighting your character, but archers and spellcasters will often go straight at the Healers.

The central and northern spawn zones seem to get the bulk of reinforcements. Remus was hanging out near the bottom and only saw a scattered enemy appear from those trees. Eliza and Crevanille killed off the most.

If you can manage this fight without your best spellstones, then this is a great mission for equipping some spellstones that teach abilities because of how many enemies there are to kill.

We’ll be able to save those troops cut off on the front line.

Now, I’m not sure about whether or not you can leave this area before all the healers have left. Even when there are no longer enemies around, the game tends to frown on you leaving a mission zone before the NPCs. I would recommend waiting around until every healer and the Ordinale Captain have left the field.

After everyone is gone, we can proceed to the next screen. The route to the Ruined Village is here, but if we keep going north a little bit we’ll find the injured Ordinale soldiers that needed help.

There’s also a familiar face among them!

Hey, Ned! Nothing much. What about you?

[Ned]: I’m working for Lord Ordinale now. I’ve heard this is how various members of Alten Schwart-- like Mortis-- have gotten stronger. And that’s not even mentioning that one of our main duties is to fight for Marquelay. There are too many reasons not to help fight for the cause.

Good stuff. We got to wipe out an entire platoon of Valkanian soldiers and also apparently helped saved Ned. We did some good here.

But, we also have our own stuff to worry about. Let’s turn around and head for Maggie’s place.

We have to use the Spellcannon from our Key Items inventory while next to Maggie.

This is… a weapon from 2,000 years ago. What do we have here? “Report: The spellcannon prototype is a success. To defeat the Angels, we’ll start putting them into mass production.” This one says “Prototype Spellcannon Maintenance Manual.” Hmmm…

This appears to be in good condition.

Careful where you’re pointing that thing, chief.

You want to be able to use this, right?

Yes.

Obviously. It’s a cool magic bazooka thing.

I figured. Give me some more time to do further research. If you’re tired, there’s a bed up there.

Well, we’ve got nothing better to do. Also, we’re probably going to get assaulted by psychic visions or something, so we may as well get it over with.

Huh… No visions this time. We are awake in the middle of the night though, so that’s not exactly ordinary.

I can’t sleep either. Why don’t we get some fresh air outside?

In other words, there’s something for us to find outside. Let’s look!

That a problem?

Well… How should I put this… Strange things tend to happen at night. I-If you can’t help yourself, at least be careful.

Okay, now we have to go out and look around.

Nothing weird so far.

:raise: Hello…?

*The mysterious person floats up and disappears*

:ghost:

Well, you were right. Weird stuff happens out there at night.

Let’s just get back to bed. There’s nothing else we can do here.

Damnit! There is a vision!

Yes. My name is Regina. It’s an honor to meet you.

Well now, what’s this all about?

Mmm… Tell me more about summoning spells.

Yes, Your Highness. A summoning spell calls forth a creature from another world to act upon your orders. Creatures that are summoned possess power that far surpasses that of any man.

I see, that sounds quite intriguing. But it all seems too convenient…

You’re telling me that they’re already employing these abilities?

Yes.

Hmmm… There have been reports from the front lines that Dulkheim was controlling powerful monsters…

There aren’t that many summoners right now, so I don’t think there’s that much of a threat. Yet. But it won’t stay that way forever.

I see no reason to doubt you. If I give you three months time, will that be enough time to start seeing results?

Yes. Please, leave it to me.

All right. I will assign a number of my men to you. Make use of them as you please. Also, if any of my soldiers have potential, feel free to use them, as well.

Thank you.

How does Zombie Regina know about summoning spells? Why is she working with Valkania? Lots of question here.

But now we’re on to new developments.

[Narrator]: With Commander Dranguss’s failed assault on Iskendros and his resulting death, the Iglesian chain of command was thrown into chaos. Under relentless pressure, no counterattack could be mounted, and the series of defeats continued.

*We now focus on the two guys chatting on the city street*

[Dude #1]: Hey, did you hear about Ludwig?

[Dude #2]: Yeah. He’s going to enter the presidential election.

[Dude #1]: On top of that, he said he’s going to do it right after he “brings Iglesias to its knees.”

[Dude #2]: Even if he runs there and back, that only gives him four days to do the actual fighting, doesn’t it? That can’t be possible.

[Dude #1]: Not even for the hero Ludwig?

Of loving course he’s going to do it. Ludwig is apparently the greatest military mind to ever grace the continent, despite the fact that we never see him doing anything particularly cunning or intelligent. It’s more a case of him succeeding because everyone else is a gigantic moron.

Whatever. It’ll all come to an end the next time he has to face us. We got all of our losses out of the way early in the game. Crevanille is all about winning from here on out, baby!

Oh, good morning. Sleep well? I took a look at the spellcannon, and I found out that it’s just out of energy.

Does this mean we can use it, then?

As long as we find the energy for it.

Is that all it needs? We can fix that.

For the love of god, yes. The Ruined Village isn’t hard to get to, but I definitely would prefer to not run out here every time we need to talk to you. The closest Transgate to this place is back in Ordinale.

Always room for one more in my villa, if you don’t mind that kind of thing.

I’ll take you up on that offer. You live in Marquelay, right? I’ll leave at once.

All right. Let me borrow your pen.

*Eliza heads over to the worktable and writes something down*

Ask for the Mayfield residence. It should be easy to find.

Thanks.

*Maggie leaves*

Your place is starting to liven up a bit, Eliza.

Isn’t it just?

We’re lucky to have met Eliza.

I agree.

Master, what do you intend to do?

I want to return to the villa.

I agree. We should think about our next step.

That’s pretty much all we have to go on, so we might as well give it a shot. Let’s hit the road.

But before we leave, we investigate the spot where we saw the ghost last night. We pick up something called “The Use of Spells.”

This is an important item. It’s going to let us learn some new Joint Spells. Make sure you grab it before you go.

The trip back to No Angeles is nothing special. The Transgate set up just outside Ordinale makes it much easier, as we no longer have to bother fighting a bunch of low level enemies in the tunnel or on the road back to No Angeles.

Maggie greets us when we get back to the villa.

I know we’ll both be pretty busy, but when you’re free, stop on by! Even I need a change of pace every so often.

*Maggie then heads back to her lab*

When we try to follow her and check it out, someone interrupts us.

[Kate]: Oh, right! There’s someone named Maggie who’s going to be living here. She seems to know a good deal about how spells work. We’ve gotten along swimmingly so far.

Affirmative. She is knowledgeable about ancient spell technology.

[Kate]: Yeah, talking to her has been a blast. In fact, we were speaking just a little while ago and I find her very informative. I learned something sad, though. Turns out her village once held special spell information. However, that knowledge was lost in an attack…

Processing… Affirmative, that village was attacked 15 years ago by one unidentified man.

[Kate]: I agree. It’s just so disheartening. So much could have been learned… *sigh* I’m going back to my room.

*Kate then leaves and heads to her room*

I really wish she would have just stood there, because we have the exact thing she’s looking for. Now we have to track down which room among the 20 or so that are up there belongs to her.

Let’s take a look at Maggie’s lab before we do that, though.

This is such a luxurious laboratory! It’s actually a little too big for me; I have trouble relaxing. But thanks! I’m reading up on how the spellcannon works. Could you give me a bit more time?

And that’s all she’s got for us. Showing her the Cryptic Documents does nothing and showing her the Life Stone will have her comment on it, but she won’t take it or do anything with it. Maybe later.

Let’s find Kate.

Kate is on the second floor (or third floor, for you Americans) in the middle room around the corner.

[Kate]: *gasp* C-Could this be…? Is this the book from Maggie’s village!? I-I can’t believe it! I can’t believe your timing on this, either. I’ve been stuck working on something, lately… This book might hold the answer to my problem. Let me take a look real quick to see…

*We fade out for a bit as Kate goes over the book*

[Kate]: Hah! It’s in here! New answers, new theories, and of course, new spells!

We only care about that last one, thanks.

[Kate]: I knew that last one would make you happy. They’re actually pretty easy to get a hang of…

*We fade out again as Kate explains*

There we go. We’ve got three new Joint Spells. Two flavours of Area Heal and an Area Status Cure.

Your assistance is acknowledged.

Stop being weird, Yuni. You’ve been flipping between slang and robotic a lot in the past two updates.

[Kate]: Don’t thank me! This book has opened a world of possibilities. I’ll look at this book together with Maggie soon. Take care!

We’re far from being done with Kate, however. Talk to her again right after learning these spells and she’ll have more for us.

[Kate]: Carnos has been really busy with his work, so he’s been cooped up in the army’s barracks. That’s why I’m studying spell theory here like I am.

[Kate]: If you happen to know anyone like that, could you bring them to me? I’m thiiis close to the creation of a new high-level spell…

I believe you need to have a character with you that has mastered Wind Edge in order for this to trigger. Both Crevanille and Frayne have it mastered in our party. You are at a severe disadvantage at this stage of the game if you don’t have anyone with at least a level 4 Wind Edge, since you need Wind for basically every Joint Spell.

[Kate]: Oh, look at that! You’ve already learned the wind spell I need! We should talk for a little bit!

*We fade out while Kate explains*

[Kate]: I’ll need to do further research in order to fully understand joint spells, but this much is clear: Before, we knew that we could use Fire/Ice/Earth/Wind to make stronger spells… With what I’ve learned, though, we should be able to combine Holy/Mind with Wind, as well. The joint spells would look something like this…

Sweet. Area MP Drain is especially awesome for Frayne.

[Kate]: Holy/Mind can only be combined with Wind, to my knowledge. Getting the hang of it is pretty simply, so I can teach it to you easily.

*Kate then teaches us the spells*

Oh, right. Opinion was a bit mixed on Yuni’s new costume, but it was split evenly enough that I decided to take user Space Klabooey’s suggestion and equip Yuni’s Costume I for at least 1 main update. We’ll revisit Yuni’s fashion choices after we clear the next dungeon.

[Kate]: I can’t thank you enough for your help. My research will continue all the more easily because of you.

Still not done with Kate. Talk to her one more time.

[Kate]: By the way, if you happen by Marquelay on your travels, I have a favor that I might ask. I once owned a special item called a “test spellstone,” which I obtained in Dulkheim. I then lent it to Carnos for a time.

[Kate]: I’m sure you know what I’m about to ask… If it wouldn’t be too much bother, could you find the Test Spellstone and give it back to me? It’s very important for an experiment I’d like to run.

*Kate pauses for a bit*

[Kate]: Every time I start into my research, I’m reminded of Elena. We worked together at Fort Leinfaltz. She’s the one who got me into spell theory to begin with. Supporting her allies was always her main focus, and she did this with her work. The dedication she had…

[Kate]: You know, now that I’m thinking of it, I recall that she kept a report detailing all her work. If I could get my hands on it, I’d be that much closer to completing my own studies. She stayed behind in Dulkheim after escaping her imprisonment. I wonder what she’s up to now…

This is a clue for the next step in Joint Spell research. We can’t complete this one right now, since we last saw Elena in Trockmere and we’re sort of fugitives in Dulkheim. Plus, Dulkheim has pushed the frontlines back to Aida Bridge, so that area is kind of a clusterfuck at the moment.

What we can do, however, is track down that Test Spellstone that Carnos dropped. Let’s head to Marquelia.

Specifically, we’re looking for this area right here. You may already be familiar with this path. It is an extremely frustrating transition point that leads you to…

this area. This area has absolutely no reason to exist outside of pissing players off. You can’t leave to the south or west. All you can do is go back the way you came. I have no earthly idea why the developers put in this little triangular section that does nothing except frustrate your attempts at crossing through town.

Unless of course the entire goal of the developers was to frustrate the player’s attempts to cross through town, in which case, mission accomplished!

Anyway, the test spellstone is shining right there in front of Crevanille.

[Kate]: I had started to give up hope, to be honest… Thank you so much! Now wait right here! With this, I can run a short experiment. If all goes well, I’ll have shiny new joint spells for you!

*We fade out for a moment*

[Kate]: There’s more research to be done to discover ALL of the possible joint spells, but I learned a lot! This’ll be easy AND fun to learn! Listen well.

*We fade out as Kate explains*

*We also learn High Atrophy (Atrophy + Wind) and High Fear (Fear + Wind)*

Your assistance is acknowledged.

[Kate]: No, no, I should be thanking YOU. This would not have been possible without the Test Spellstone. With what I’ve learned so far, I can continue on with my research. Thank you, and good luck!

There, now we’re finished with Kate. It’s going to be a while before we can meet with Elena and get the last few Joint Spells (AKA The good ones).

Now that we’ve finished up with some side content, we head over to the castle to see if Alicia and Chris have managed to find out anything about that Kaufman place.

It took a bit more effort than I thought, but someone familiar with the Ordinale’s forest knew about a “Kaufman Waterfall.”

It’s far to the east of Ordinale.

Conveniently enough, it’s around where my brother is fighting.

Knowing Alfonse, he should be able to drive Valkania back and secure a path to the waterfall. Good luck, everyone. May your journey be filled with great fortune.

And that’s all. Can’t complain too much about keeping things short and sweet. Well, now that we have a destination, we may as well head out.

…I’m forgetting something… aren’t I?

Damnit… forgot about the Transgate. I am not fully awake yet, apparently.

We don’t have any reason to stop in Ordinale (unless you need to restock on Fairy Tears or GL Chips Sets), so head south and then towards the road sign.

It’s finally time to go to Rebrant…. Or at the very least in the direction of Rebrant. Not sure we’re going to actually see the town this time.

When you get here, it’s time to do buffing. Protect/Attack/Cycle Up are the big ones here. Resist isn’t all that necessary.

When you’re ready, head to the next screen.

:raise:

What’s going on?

[Girl with a Tail]: I need to get meowt of here…

Of course she does cat puns…

Isn’t this girl…?

The one that locked us in the ruins with that stupid-rear end Alexander knock-off? Yes. Yes it is.

*The ground starts shaking*

What’s that shaking?

This big dude drops in from the cliff and is quickly joined by Garuga’s suntanned cousin and some Kester recolours (two more appear to the south).

These monsters were chasing that girl, weren’t they?

What are you all standing around for!? She’s helpless!

If she gets attacked, she’ll die. We have to save her!

She’s right next to us, calm down. Not like we could leave her even if we tried, since the enemies are blocking the way forward.

This is an easy mission. Letting the catgirl die is something you actively have to work towards, since your party members are pretty much standing between her and all of the enemies.

Valbug is the same as Garuga. I assume it has the same ranged attack, so make sure you move Crevanille and Eliza forward in order to stop him from getting within range of catgirl.

The Kester recolours are weakest to Holy, but Wind also works very well. Just make sure you don’t use Earth on them, since they are flying and therefore immune.

Sechs Ulk is a big boy and has lots of big boy stats. Fire and Earth magic will work well on it, but honestly, you’re better off just wailing on the thing with physical attacks. Crevanille and Eliza should be more than enough to handle him. Remus and Frayne’s attention should be on the Kester clones.

Yuni’s Revenge skill triggers right away, so you can see how it works. It does okay damage. Her Strength stat is only level 5 right now, so that’s to be expected.

Stealing from Sechs Ulk nets us 3750 Ril, so it might be worth doing.

Killing him scores us a Phys Resist Down spellstone. That’s going right on Remus when I get the chance. Phys Resist Down lowers an enemy’s Physical Damage Resistance with each hit, so Remus can become a Debuff Sniper. It doesn’t work on every enemy, of course, but still.

Stealing with Valbug gets us Knack Lv +3, which is okay. Nothing mind blowing. He does drop a Dandy Book, though. Neat.

After that, we just need to clean up the Kester clones.

Everyone except Crevanille gets a level. Crevanille is about a level or two ahead of the rest, so that’s fine.

The only advice I can offer for this fight is that if you aren’t confident in your physical attack power, then move Crevanille or Eliza into the path of Valbug while you fight with Sechs Ulk. I think Sechs Ulk might block Valbug’s path on its own, but it’s better not to risk him slipping past you while you fight with the big man. Sechs Ulk has a good amount of HP, so chances are you’re going to be fighting with him longer than I did (we killed him before he could even use a single attack, because Vampire Lord Crevanille).

After the battle, everyone starts walking over to the catgirl. We can chat with them before checking on her, though.

What is that girl, though? We saw her once before, too-- when we were coming back from Fandelcia, right?

Actually, this is our third time seeing her. The party spotted her running away after we spooked her in those ruins north of Klasdahl (back where we found the first Resonator).

Is she going to be all right?

She doesn’t appear heavily wounded. I think she’s just tired and in shock from her fall.

She… has a tail… And are those ears on her head?

I’m not sure why “check her ears” is allowed, but “check her tail” is greyed out. Oh well, you know what we have to do.

*check if her ears are real*

Those aren’t just decoration, are they?

[Ordinale Soldier #2]: L-Look at that!

*The soldiers come over*

[Ordinale Soldier #1]: What happened here?

This girl was being chased by monsters.

[Ordinale Soldier #2]: Monsters? We thought Lord Alfonse had exterminated them all. Guess we missed some.

[Ordinale Soldier #1]: We’ll make sure she gets proper medical treatment. She’ll be taken to a hospital in Ordinale right away.

*The two soldiers then pick up the catgirl and carry her off to Ordinale*

That sure was a thing that happened.

Anyway, we have other matters to attend to. I’m sure we haven’t see the last of strange catgirl and her cat puns. For now, continue on towards Rebrant.

Along the way, there are some new goatmen enemies. They will try and cast some kind of spell, but I always kill them before they can actually fire it.

Other than that, there are more Kester clones and some generic versions of the Sechs Ulk we just fought, called Trolls.

After going through this one field, we reach Alf’s base camp. He’s blocking our way forward, so something must be up. We’ll find out what the situation is in the next update.

That's it! No more hiding in tomato crates! It's time to show that idiota Germany how a real nation fights!

For pasta~! CHARGE!

I'd assume that checking her ears is the snarky option and checking her tail is the pervy option.
Also of course she does cat puns. There's practically a law enforcing it.

Guys, guys I think the necromancer that raised zombie Regina might not be a good person. Just an hunch.
