you misunderstand the function of dazzle, i think. it's not to make the object impossible to see like traditional camo (those extremely garish ww1 boats that look like some artist commune had mobilized sure weren't, lol) but instead make it impossible to detect detail. a ww1 boat wanted to be visible but make common sea observations (say, how fast the ship was going, or what was the bearing) much more difficult to the human eye specifically. it's very easy to see where the water line is on a boat with a single colour hull (you look for the dark bit), it's much more difficult to do the same on alternating shades. similarly, if i'm ford i don't want nissan to look at where the air grills are from a social media picture and deduce that the product has this or that feature, or that the doors will be x inches wide and so forth.

what's even the purported logic behind the cops having a kid's prints helping them find the kid if they're kidnapped? what kind of situation is the kidnappee going to be in police custody to be printed but not able to just say "that isn't my dad, i've been kidnapped." only makes sense if maybe it'll help the cops identify a body but i think if they find a dead kid they'll be checking reports of kidnapped children anyway
On top of the BS about spotting a kid on a security camera, they unironically told and successfully convinced parents in the '80s and '90s that satanic cults would kidnap kids and sexually abuse them unless they trusted the cops to save them (oops, it was actually the Catholic church and intelligence agencies). Then there was the era of vague uncertainty after the fall of the Soviet Union that almost felt happy and carefree until "this post-9/11 era."

San Diego PD put on a community theater performance of one of their officers "overdosiing" on fentanyl from coming into contact with it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DssqP8fwAM

This is of course complete bullshit and the San Diego PD and the officers involved won't talk to the NYT about why they're pumping this bullshit.

https://twitter.com/LeoBeletsky/status/1424357167281451009

Why would they do this? Well they can charge people with felonies for putting officers "in danger" anytime they find fent anywhere.

So they can scare pearlcutchers. They need to know how dangerous Fentanyl is and that it could turn their kids into gang members at any moment.

Before COVID, my office would bring in the world's unluckiest man to "train" us about things*. One time he claimed that dealers were spiking weed with Fentanyl.

*for whatever reason they brought him in for every required training from the MSDS to Ladder Safety, and every last time he had some sort of personal story about someone he knew either being inured or killed from whatever we were being forced to sit in a room and listen to him read copy about.

Sadly fentanyl is dirt cheap, or at least was a few years ago when the Chinese direct-to-retail pipeline was at a high, under $100/gram, which I’ve been told equates to something like $1/gram of stepped-on H. I assume it’s harder to get now after a few high-profile executions, but not sure.

I’m repeating poo poo I heard from disreputable former acquaintance back in ~2018. May be bullshit, but entertaining bullshit nontheless. Same guy was thinking the fentanyl-in-weed thing may be true, but only for those mysteriously-sourced vape carts that appeared overnight all over the Midwest around this time. I used a few of these and it never felt like opiods (and I never clogged up, lol) and even better my lungs didn’t collapse from the goddamn vitamin E.
