Eventually the local volunteer firefighters went up there (according to rumor) and told him that they wouldn't fight any fires that happened on his property. Funnily enough his barn burned down a week or two later. He moved out and put the place up for sale the following week. To this day I don't really know what he did, if anything. Rumor was that he'd done something to one of the farmer's daughters and I do remember one of my classmates missing school for a few weeks, but no idea if that's an actual memory or one that I'm just connecting in my own head. I asked my parents about it at the time, but all they knew was that he had hurt someone and that they weren't involved with any of it. I asked them not too long ago as well and they said they don't remember it happening that way at all, so who knows. There's all sorts of hosed up small town stories I've got from my childhood. poo poo was weird before there was internet and you were living in a tiny farming community of less than 200 people and about 25 miles from the nearest anything. Growing up I, 100% earnestly, skipped rocks with my friends down by the crick as entertainment.
