People in southern Ontario have been watching commercials for stuff in western New York for ages and it's clear as day how different they sound even though they're so close. We have a friend who moved to Rochester and when she visits we can hear her slowly becoming a person from Raaa-chester.

There are differences such as the following groups of words that sound exactly the same here: Pal/pail Hal/hail Gal/Gayle Ale/Al Also a lot fewer "ope," "awferjeez," "dontcha know," and "oh yah" here as well. And I checked so no, it is not more of a Utica thing
