Fumetsu is really bad right now. They seem to have hit a really rough patch production-wise, with sparse and awkward animation, off-model characters, and lifeless direction. The current arc is a mess plot-wise too.

I also think I'm going to drop Jahy-sama, it's extremely predictable and not at all funny.

I'm still enjoying To Your Eternity, though I will agree in general that I think the direction of the series hasn't been that good. The pacing is also kind of been an issue, it feels like after the beginning every arc has maybe been an episode or so just too long. I get this is a kind of introspective and meditative show, but it's also weird and gonzo and the anime hasn't quite managed to hit the right notes since maybe the first or second episode.

As for Jahy-Sama I dropped it after the first episode. Humor is subjective, sure, but it didn't make me laugh at all. It might be unfair to compare it to Machikado Mazoku since that's an all-timer, but I really couldn't help it and that show made its cast funny and charming right out of the gate.

machikado is an ambitious manga time kirara yuri comedy made by a woman who likes marimite, jahy-sama is a comedy written by a woman who really really loves boobs and tan skin and whose vtuber avatar is a short tan girl and who also does a yuri manga where the sole focus is everyone talking about boobs and groping each other except for the one girl who just wants to sit in the background and watch them grope each other

Mr. Mao is much more competent than Jahi.

Jahi is just a total disaster without her magic rocks. Sadao would burn up all his Eviler Meter on poo poo like Croc Control of Max Buffness and then go back to being the little poo poo everyone hated because he treated MigGrognals like an actual job.

I've not really been around or had the time for any new anime for basically a year now. Would anyone be willing to hit me with a wee summary of anything of note I should definitely hit up first? I've already basically binged all of Oddtaxi (what a ride that was) and I'm nearly finished Zombie Land Saga Revenge already.

Also, has anything from the season turned out well, now that we're a fair bit into the season? I noticed the sentiment early in the thread was that this has been a rather lukewarm one.

Dynazenon was good if you liked Gridman (and if you didn't watch Gridman, check out Gridman). 86 was very well directed dystopian mech anime, and Godzilla: Singular Point had a remarkably charming Jet Jaguar. Might be something you like there, depending on your tastes.

(And yeah. This season is a real disappointment in comparison to the last couple.)

Jahy is almost at the point where the antagonist shows up, which is where the manga really starts being great.

As a fan of the manga, the show just hasn't been working for me. Especially when you compare it to Machikado Mazoku, because that show ruined me, and now I can't appreciate SoL comedy unless the pace is absolutely hectic and the jokes are being shot at me out of a machinegun.

Watch all of it; read all of it. The manga just gets more incredible with each volume.

Same. I suspect the series is going to try to make Jahy more sympathetic later, but I don't feel like coming along for the ride. Maybe I'll revisit it after the run is complete.

(Holy mother of gently caress, isn't Oddtaxi amazing?)

So many shows...

A few have been mentioned, here's personal faves from the last year, all over the place:

Aggretsuko
Beastars
BNA: Brand New Animal
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
Pui Pui Molcar
Beastars 2
(yes, I'm a furry, what of it?)

Super Cub (Slice-of-life Honda commercial)
Tenchi Souzou Design-bu "Heaven's Design Bureau"
Maou-jou de Oyasumi

If you like Isekai, "Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken" has been the most popular one this past year, though I preferred "Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?" because spiders are better than slimes and this is Aoi Yuki's world and we're just living in it. :spiderguy:

Ones I haven't personally seen but got high praise this past year:
Horimiya
Non Non Biyori: Nonstop
SK∞
Yuru Camp
86: Eighty Six (Second season is this Fall, so now's the perfect time to catch up)
Fruits Basket
NOMAD: Megalo Box 2
Akudama Drive
Shadows House
SSSS.DYNAZENON
Re:Zero
Tokyo Revengers
Yuukoku no Moriarty
Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song (Going to take advantage of the Summer lull and catch up on this one)

And EX-ARM! Don't forget Ex-Arm! We certainly can't. Not even after drinking the fifth can of Sterno. :tif:

Seriously, just catch ONE (and ONLY one) episode of the show. Any will do. Your jaw will drop to the floor as you try to ponder how the hell did this get made. Have your drug of choice available to watch it with, and an emergency therapy hotline on hand in case you watch more than one episode. :suicide:

Yeah, it's been mostly pretty weaksauce for me, with the exception of the new season of Maiddragon. Think of it as a good time to catch up on all the great shows from the past year.

And Ex-Arm. :psyboom:

It feels like Sonny Boy is one of the few shows with an Indian character who doesn't feel like a stereotype. He's just an extremely chill and analytical guy. And he doesn't have the same character flaws as the rest of the cast, most of whom are written to be foolish mob characters.
