I have a theory that one of the reasons why there's so much abuse in the service industry now is because the middle class don't get it as much and they're desperately trying to shore up that piece of their identity. Because being a consumer is all a lot of these people have left. Not all of them, but a lot of them have no other identity other than being a consumer and so they're desperate to keep consuming at all costs. That as far as identity goes there's nothing there or at least not enough to sustain them. That if the shelves are empty and there's no one serving them, they have to deal with the fact that they don't know who they are.

I feel like Americans must have a weird relationship to dining out because of how badly service people are underpaid and the whole tipping thing is meant to make you put a price tag on the server.

Florida healthcare is collapsing but the intermittent case reports just makes it look like their entire system of recording and tracking cases is breaking down. Along with that plot's y-axis.
