it's like chrissy teigen saying "parasite" was good despite the message of the film being "rich people are scum" or chuds watching "starship troopers" and thinking its badass the subjects of your satire/criticism might be too loving stupid to get it. them's the breaks, that's just how people are. it doesn't make the satire/criticism less imo

finished The White Lotus and it's a 9/10 great show imo, also glad season 2 will use new characters because all the attention and listicles this show has spawned potentially risks a weird symbiotic fan/show writer relationship which would ruin the same characters in later seasons

fights over cultural appropriation are indeed very 2014. i remember a lot of very intense online and irl arguments about whether or not it was okay for white people to open taco trucks and etc. around that time period. maybe it was just my social circles but i feel like after the 2016 election the volume on that stuff went WAY down. railing against trump was just a much easier (and frankly much healthier) outlet for that kind of energy

HP doesn’t even reach that low bar imo, especially the early movies (I’ve only seen number two or three the whole way through and none of the children know how to act yet) Silence as background noise is better than friends. I had to hear an episode where the chandler character goes to a strip club with the three female characters. only to eventually hear about how chandler fantasies about his friends making out with strippers. Then later he goes and get his nails done apparently getting your nails done isn't gay. But blowing air on the nails is gay. So many people because they watch the episode think it is un offensive. Listen to the show with out the video, or watch it on mute to pull you out of of the sucking force the show puts you in, and realize just how loving weird it is. Or just watch it old people around.

I’m rewatching Rome. this show is so fun. Vorenus and Pullo are best friends and I love them and wish they’d make Rome 2: Romier and also bring back Marc Antony who is extremely sexy the battle between Caesar and Pompeii was a 20 second montage of soft focus individuals fighting, absolutely amazing, I wish more shows would lean into “you’re not watching this for the military porn and we’re not gonna waste 2 million and 20 minutes on it” indigi has issued a correction as of 01:18 on Aug 18, 2021 |

yeah I remember it having a really wonky ending. I guess it was just wildly expensive for the time and the Golden Age of Cable TV was still in its infancy, Deadwood suffered a similar fate iirc
