The end game is that they get a job/position as the gatekeeper for that particular culture. You see, if you buy/learn/wear something from China, Brazil, etc. you are appropriating. But if you buy/learn/wear something from the Chinese-American, Brazilian-American, etc. you are supporting people of color.

Edit:

I know a ton of American kids of one Brazilian parent that are like this. Grew up in the US, don't speak the language, maybe visited twice the country twice and hated it, hated whenever their parent made anything of Brazilian origin, anglicized their name to avoid being thought of as Brazilian. But then at some point between college and the start of their career, they discover that they are Brazilian. Not in the sense of "I want to learn more about my parent's culture and what I missed as a kid," but in the sense of "I want to use this to benefit me personally and to lecture other people about a culture that I learned about the same way they did, through tourism and wikipedia." They treat culture in an essentialist, almost genetic way that would make Richard Spenser proud.

I'm tempted to refer to DARVO, but they do that too, to the point where DARVO has become an example of itself.

Some of these people begin with good intentions, but the only use they have for talk about racial segregation is figuring out who the bad guys are that we're all supposed to hate. Since she never learned the underlying moral reasoning, she fell rear end-backwards past all the warning signs in her own thoughts towards a blatantly racist conclusion.

In Brazil for years it was very common to see street vendors at the beach sell knit bikinis. One day some Turkish woman visiting Brazil saw one, bought it, and copy righted it in the US. Once it became an international success other companies started trying to sell it too, but the Turkish woman sued them all. Eventually one of these sued companies found the original street vendor in Brazil and tried to say that she actually had the copy right, but American courts threw out the case because of the statute of limitations. So an old as hell type of hand made bikini from Brazil legally belongs to an American company founded by a Turkish lady.

Jesus Christ.

it's pure aesthetics and entertainment for them with a dash of patriarchal chauvinism that they, the white "ally", must preserve and protect all POC cultures from being "tainted" and that they should only be observed and marveled at and never interacted with

The story is detailed here, but what it misses is that since then the Turkish lady won all the lawsuits and was granted copyright by arguing that the Brazilian street vendor took too long to file a claim of breach of copy right in the US.

People felt the same about Donald Trump. "Clinton is a weak centrist and will poison the people to the left for generations!" "Trump will be so bad as to turn the people to REAL CHANGE".
They got Joe Biden (and just barely scraped him in at that) and the suffering and horror begotten by 5 years of Trump.

There's a cost to the time you cede to the Tories, and I do not think that cost is worth the benefit of getting to try and roll 20s for a future great leader.

Also - I'm not sure a lovely centrist government would *actually* poison the people to a future change anyways, so even the value you assign to the dice is a thing writ in water.

I have to lol because, while there are absolutely generational recipes, at least in the US most of them can be tracked down to old cookbooks and recipes from the packaging.

And all of them are "plagiarized" in one way or another.

Someone on my FB feed who considers herself an expert in politics is dismayed at the idea that the government lied about the situation in Afghanistan. She acknowledges the existence of the Afghanistan papers but doesn't process it. Doesn't understand it... I'm not sure what. The "crack ping" thing gets thrown around a lot but this is a big one for me. She considers herself an expert in politics and current events. Holy poo poo.

I remember when the wikileaks videos of civilians getting droned by americans dropped in 2010 and people were saying it changes everything because seeing it up front is different from just hearing about it. then most people just forgot about it.

It's evil to have whites move to the suburbs by themselves and it's also evil for whites to move in next to minorities and gentrify the area

Similarly in my school district, it went from being evil to against school busing, to now it's evil to be in favor of school busing

That is usually the MO of the average person who thinks they are paying attention. Most people consider themselves extremely well-informed if they have a bookmark to the New York Times homepage that they check every other day.

The self-proclaimed experts of politics are usually the Ron Paul fanatics, the girl who wrote an essay on why white people can't make noodles, the pseudo socialist types who are terminally online, or the guy who has an internship for some congressman and posts about all the amazing insider knowledge he has from folding envelopes.
