Fidelitious posted:Yeah I thought Conservatives in NS was a weird result but I don't know poo poo about maritime politics so yeah. there's 2 things going on here: first, the cons and libs aren't really that different in NS, the tales you've heard are true! second, and most importantly, Iain Rankin hosed this election up in basically every way that's possible. one of the first things that happened was a liberal candidate being removed from the party due to secret machinations that Rankin pretended he didn't know about, over nude pics she disclosed long before the election. like, I'm a big socialist so I tend to feel like I don't have a grasp on what the general public tends to think politically, but I'm pretty sure no one likes rankin. combine that with the fact that folk are still mad over Darrell Dexter's NDP government, and you get a PC majority. also one day after the election the cops are out there tearing down shelters and pepper spraying kids, while folk on reddit are posting about being threatened with 109% rent increases so I'm sure we've got a great 4 years ahead of us.

This is probably best case scenario for a lame duck Premier that will keep the seat warm for the NDP - she's obviously awful but at least it's not Candice Bergen or Shelly Glover. Edit: Audrey Gordon is the new Health Minister lmao - a member of Springs Cult that continuously defied public health orders. Nobody knew this election was coming so it’s totally understandable.

I cant decide if this is terrifying or hilarious. Semi related but a few days back someone asked if Mad Max was going to run again. Today my dad had a message left on his phone from the PPC that Bernier will be doing one of his first campaign stops here. Hopefully he gets mocked just as much as he was last time he showed up for his anti-mask rally.

In Alberta, the CMOH Dr. Deena Hinshaw held a zoom meeting with family doctors - again, because there were a lot of questions and we were all super pissed at the last one. Some observations: -She weaselled out of answering any questions about mandatory vaccinations by saying that we were working with the labour ministry and that we needed to look at all the implications before making such an order; -She wanted to pit protections for kids in schools against the negative effects of said protections. It was left unclear as to what was the possible negative effect of my kid wearing a drat mask; -She noted that having a provincial mask mandate in clinics (so as to deflect anger from patients at having to wear masks) was something they would look at if a majority of family physicians requested it from the Alberta College of Family Physicians. I have already sent my email to the president, who's a very nice doctor and will probably indeed request it. This would be nice because I don't like idiots yelling at my staff; -She stated that when we were debating things like mandatory vaccinations or mandatory masking we needed to 'respect different perspectives' and that reasonable people can disagree. Well, perspective deez nuts. And also no, there's no reasonable disagreement with the effectiveness of vaccines and masks. I'm sick of pretending that probabilities and facts don't loving matter. I'm sorry but I'm done maintaining a respectful dialogue with idiots. I went to university to get away from my high school, not to 'respectfully engage' with my moron classmates 25 years later.

A Toronto staffing agency has been posting job listings for AHS hospital nursing jobs in Alberta at around $20 more an hour than union nurses make while AHS is requesting a 3% retroactive wage rollback from the nurses union. Now the AHS has filed a labour board complaint against the nurses union, claiming that pointing that out is bargaining in bad faith. The organization requesting retroactive wage rollbacks is accusing the other side of arguing in bad faith. Kenney is going to drive an entire generation of nurses out of Alberta permanently, just like Ralph did. It is going to take Alberta 50 years to recover from Kenney's 4 year reign of terror.

I dunno. The fact that it's election related probably brings more laws into play. I also think it's likely that someone would actually have to pay them the money as 'attempted fraud' may be even more shaky. In any case, it's not good for them that's for sure.

It’s pretty funny because this is how it sounds, but a lot of the advocacy for alkyl nitrate legalization was framed as an lgbt issue on the basis that the ban created disproportionate health risks for gay and bi men: https://www.bccsu.ca/blog/news-rele...e-sex-with-men/ Obviously it’s a pretty niche issue that would’ve benefited from more context, but I’m guessing his base would not appreciate him getting into the details. It also looks extremely measly in light of the conversion therapy clusterfuck and solidifies my belief that O’Toole is clueless as a politician. But it’s not a bad thing.
